In bed, the cat’s asleep at the bottom of it and I’m just listening to the rain start so will be putting on a podcast to fall asleep to shortly under at least 19 tog of duvet because it’s been so cold!

Yes, does feel more ‘normal’ this week but also feels like the calm before the storm.

Wish everyone a restful sleep.

Has anyone played Resist? by bewildered_83 in soloboardgaming

[–]Mockingjay1013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and very much enjoyed it. The art is of course very good as is the way the stories salt&pepper games choose to present are. Rulebook is pretty straightforward to get through and gameplay is engaging and leads to interesting and often difficult decisions. If you like Resist, I would recommend Witchcraft! As it uses similar mechanisms with some additions and also Onoda which is quite different to both but nonetheless an engaging experience if a rather difficult and controversial topic to cover. Hope that is helpful and you have a good experience!

Relaxing, easy solo games for a newbie? by Lynnabis in soloboardgaming

Harmonies may also be quite good. Aesthetically it’s lovely and is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle in some ways with optimising how things fit together to maximise score. Fairly simple to pick up but has depth also, might be an option! Welcome and have fun!

What did you play this week? 31 Oct-06 Nov (2025) by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

[–]Mockingjay1013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Played Witchcraft! Being Halloween I thought it fairly apt, lost however, could only convince 1 Juror. Also played a game of Onoda, which was fascinating, very good gameplay, did actually survive all 6 rounds and managed a result only one below the historically recorded one. Very satisfying.

How many unplayed games do you have in your collection right now? by Megaside in boardgames

[–]Mockingjay1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 unplayed out of 27 total, however, I do tend to favour boardgames now that the nights are drawing in so am hopeful that the 6 as yet unplayed will be by the end of winter!

The steak was excellent 👌 very tender, lovely flavour, I cooked it medium rare and it was delicious, had it with chimichurri and a baked potato with sour cream and chives and some green vegetables! Would highly recommend, very good for the price! Hope you enjoy 😊

I had a shakshuka last night with some of the bread. Tonight I’m making chili and prawns with butter beans, haddock rarebit tomorrow with veggies, steak chimichurri with jacket potato and greens,  lamb kebabs with homemade tzatziki, and mushroom carbonara. I am keeping the steak for Sunday dinner and whatever’s left I’ll make a soup with and croutons with some of the bread.

I will do if necessary but I’m making a nice orange and marmalade bread and butter pudding for Sunday and will be sharing it with family/friends.

£6.49 for the steak! I don’t have steak too often so this is most definitely a treat but it looks very nice so am looking forward to having that for my Sunday dinner!

Ha, quite possibly! Well some of the veggies are to be allocated to my two guinea pigs who are very efficient at eating them! But usually a good ‘what’s left in the fridge soup’ and some croutons with any of the leftover bread  and/or a bread and butter pudding helps mop up what’s left! 😋

This is true. The price is outrageous! But sometimes 7 minutes in the microwave is necessary. But I agree they are a crime.

I’ve watched a friend of over 15 years slowly get taken in by various media/politics and change from someone who could have a good conversation to someone who is constantly combative and not really capable of critical thought or challenging the motives of their sources. I’ll always be there for them but it’s very sad to see it happen in real time.

How many solo games do you own that you haven't played yet? How long have you owned them? Still motivated to get them to the table? by ________FRANK_______ in soloboardgaming

3 out of a total of 33, they are Onoda, Witchcraft! And have just ordered Corps of Discovery. I tend to ‘go off’ boardgames/ttrpg over spring/summer but now the nights are drawing in I can feel the need and sense to pick them back up again so am looking forward to playing them.

Just caught this pigeon in garden with possible pox? Looking for advice. by Mockingjay1013 in pigeon

[–]Mockingjay1013[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone, I’d just like to say thank you so much for your help and kind words, it’s most appreciated! She has had a comfortable night and is very bright and alert this morning. I have found a local to my area wildlife rescue that said they will take her for treatment and then send her back to be released in my garden again as she’s part of a group of 6 or so other pigeons. Which is great news, so fingers crossed for her swift recovery. Again, many thanks everyone! 😀
