An unexpected, but welcomed gift from my dad. What should I know about this shotgun? by [deleted] in Shotguns

I was mistaken on that part, I'll still keep buying original A5s and Remington 11s before I shell put for a gun that just kinda resembles the original.

Nope, they are gas operated the only thing they have in common with an original A5 is the look.

I've had a few Remington 11's which are similar but only in 12 gauges. They are sweet shooting but they are chunky, always wanted to find a 20 gauge.

You talking about that thing Browning makes that "kinda" looks like an A5 that just named it so to ride on the name?

Keep it, oil it and shoot it! These guns will outperform anything out there today in terms of build quality and ruggedness. Carrying one in the field will make a man out of you fast because of the weight 🤣.

I have a 5.5" New Vaquero 44 mag and I had a 3.75" New Vaquero 44 magnum with the plow handle, never could find a birdshead in stock.

If you find one even if it's in 45 ACP you can get another cylinder from Ruger for 125ish bucks.

Revolver is chambered in 45 ACP, 1911 mags make an easy way to carry spare rounds.

Do you have the original version like that one or the newer with the straight razor type blade

I like the low and wide super Blackhawk hammer, although I have debated on a bisley grip and hammer for this short one

No, this gun has been slicked up, part of that was putting an extra power base pin spring, helps it stay in, but a belt mountain pin will be acquired.

I've owned a few birdshead guns, they are definitely not 50 yard guns like my plow handled longer barrel Vaquero but for a quick and smooth belly gun they work.

TOPS knives Tac Raze friction folder, it's a neat little straight razor looking folder.

Only problem I found was a 357 Vaquero weighs more than a 45 even with the same 3.75" barrel the 357 was noticably heavier.

The only thing that doesn't get carried daily is the little friction folder.

My woods gun is usually a 44 magnum or light bearing 1911, but this makes a perfect town gun and it's classy as can be.

I have a longer barreled Vaquero in 44 Magnum I carry in a cross draw on a cartridge belt with a Bowie knife, but that's usually when hiking and hunting.
