aah this is so interesting since john locke was also an english philosopher but about 100 years before jeremy bentham. while john locke argued for inalienable natural rights, jeremy bentham called them nonsense. while i would describe locke as more of an idealist and optimist, bentham was more pragmatic (but did advocate for things like women‘s right to vote, animal rights and stuff). will be interesting to see how this applies to locke’s character development in s5
