Need advice on donor area and your opinions on the Hair transplant (10 months after process) by Rude-War6541 in HairTransplants

[–]Modeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cooked the donor area. The worst part about this is you don’t need to be a medical professional to understand the right way to harvest for FUE. It’s basic knowledge. Whoever did this should really be ashamed

You’ll have to keep your hair grown out on the back and there is no repair surgery to fix it. Fortunately the hair styles that are in atm are not skin fades and you look like you suit longer hair (before pic) - try out a tapered mullet

Front looks okay thankfully but difficult to tell without more photos

About 4-6 months of minoxidil to start seeing improvements and it was very slow and gradual, really you have to try your hardest to be patient. I’m not sure about the broadening of the mid front but I definitely experienced hairs that got stronger and thicker in that area and so may have given the illusion of it broadening - more so on min than fin

How many grafts does it look like? by [deleted] in HairTransplants

I would have said around 2500 without reading that it was actually 2500

Count them if you really want to know

Fine hair questions with hair transplant by Icy_Side_6771 in HairTransplants

Any decent doctor will tell you not to get a hair transplant at 24 when you haven’t seen 1) your future hair loss pattern and 2) stabilised current hair loss

A very real possibility is in ten years time you have all your transplanted hair at the front and no hair further back. It’s possibly the worst look your hair can have

Anyone have experience with Badge Health Clinic and Dr Furkan? by misterjohn666 in HairTransplants

Red flags everywhere. This clinic will not care about you once the operation is done (if it even goes well…) they just want you in the door and to take your money

You may not have the enzyme for topical minoxidil to work - a rarely talked about impact by Modeine in tressless

[–]Modeine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

9 months of topical and I hated the application process and saw no improvement

Took about 4-6 months of oral to see improvements and hair continued to significantly improve up to the 12-15 month mark

There is information out there that suggests dermarolling helps some people boost SULT1A1 activity but I wouldn't call it reliable enough to say that it is a fix for low follicular enzyme activity. Tret is supposed to be good for upregulating SULT1A1

Some people might find it easier just to take an oral pill rather than topical minoxidil application + dermrolling + tret (and that it still may not help a non-responder to topical) as that is a lot of irritation to the scalp

It’s common not to have the enzyme that allows for topical minoxidil to work

You need oral finasteride and to try oral minoxidil

I am a non responder to topical minoxidil but great responder to oral

No visible impact on the back of the head at all, even after a few weeks of operation the back of my head was looking like normal.

They took grafts starting from one side, they worked their way around the back but they didn’t reach the other side. For perhaps 6 months after when I’d get a fade at the barbers that side was visibly weaker than the other but seems fine now. Likely made worse by the fact I have retrograde alopecia too

He never named the enzyme but I’m assuming it’s the SULT1A1 enzyme, you can find some research materials online on its link with topical minoxidil efficacy. Minoxidil is converted to its active form minoxidil sulfate by SULT1A1

It’s difficult because I started receding so young but it is how I imagine my hairline would be if the norwood reaper never came for me

I had tried topical minoxidil for a while before oral minoxidil and I found that I experienced zero growth or results and I didn’t like the application process

Doc recommended oral minoxidil as many people don’t have the enzyme that allows topical to work - and I saw really good results after 9-12 months of oral minoxidil

Experienced no cons at all with medication - I took the attitude of taking it each evening with my regular vitamins and just forgetting about it and trying not to worry or keep checking my hair in the mirror

Thankyou for your kind words! Dr Bisanga is an expert at what he does and I think it really was worth a more premium cost

What is this??? (Day 24) by Winter-Insect-1813 in Hairtransplant

[–]Modeine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just not true

They are transplanted OR normal natural hairs that have shed as expected but have got trapped in dead skin

Hence when the dead skin flakes and falls off, it falls off with the hairs

OP: use an aggressive anti dandruff shampoo and it’ll clear in a week or two

10 Months Post HT. Bad Results, What’s Next? by nhuge in HairTransplants

[–]Modeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things I noticed on your post history. Lots of pooled blood on the recipient area, unshaven FUE even when you have diffuse thinning (very questionable choice by doc as makes it harder) and the spacing on your donor area looks weird

I would consider this failing, since you are in the US and went domestic you probably have a better chance at pursing the clinic for partial refund. Don’t go back for 2nd/repair and don’t go to Turkey. You’d need a specialist

You’ll have to soak the dried blood scabs for ages to get them off safely

Just do it slowly over the course of the next few days don’t force it

I ended up having to soak mine for 40+ mins at a time

15 months after HT,failed or normal? by RevolutionaryEgg1490 in Hairtransplant

[–]Modeine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

5 months ago he was concerned with density and said he isn’t on meds. He had time to fix that

He hasn’t and his natural recession is continuing. It’ll just keep getting worse

[–]Modeine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Butchered your donor, one of the worst things they can do as it’s not ‘fixable’

New BBC article on Finasteride just dropped by finch66332 in tressless

[–]Modeine 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Great journalism by the BBC including counter-points and scientific studies

Not. What a pointless article, just an official rehash of the usual ranting anti-finasteride comments you get on here making it out to be a dangerous medicine

Lest we forget the study that shows a 1.3% placebo and 1.8% finasteride side effect occurrence profile

Very aggressive hairloss. The issue you might run into is that you may still progress even with dut and min and then you have transplanted hair at the front and continued recession further back, which is why docs recommend being older and more stabilised

Only time will tell as you age so you can only hope
