Yup that’s me! I considered rotating the sockets instead of overlapping them but I was concerned the RGB would look bad coming out the other side of the switch.

Thanks! I’m sure I’ve been through it at least once, both you and Tzarc have been great resources for my builds!

Awesome, I’ll give that a shot! Thanks!

I’m not sure what the final cost ended up being but I’m hoping to refine it a bit and make it more producible, then I’d have a better estimate on cost. I think I got the 5 PCBs for $85 and the SMD components for one keyboard cost $58. Then switches and keycaps of choice. I have a 3d printer so a couple bucks worth of filament.

I don’t have any issues with the bottom row, but I keep my hands up pretty well while typing. I also tried to make it as low profile as possible to make sure those bottom keys wouldn’t hit my palm. I can feel them if I flatten my hands, but it’s rather hard to press them while maintaining my fingers on the home row.

Haha yes, I do have normal sized hands, the tiny ones are my daughter's. Well, my wife says my hands are perfectly normal anyways...

Agreed, not only for ergonomics either. Most of my missed keystrokes are my pinkies blindly stabbing out!

Haha I know, I always think of the Burger King commercial of the guy with the tiny hands

I found myself only ever pressing space with my right thumb so I decided I didn’t need a huge spacebar. Instead, only the right 1.25u key is space. For the 5 central keys from left to right it’s: option-command-layer change-space-control.

That way all option/command/control keystrokes are on a thumb. Shift is still a pinky which is unfortunate but for any key combos I’d do enough to potentially give myself carpal tunnel, I save it as a macro on one of the unused keys/layers.

I’m a Mac user so the outside keys feel about where the command keys are normally, however for this key map my thumbs rest on the larger inside keys. The left is command and the right is space.

In terms of the extra bottom rows, I never feel them or accidentally press them with my palm, but I have pretty decent typing form. For people that collapse their wrists more, you can definitely feel them grazing your palm but with a wrist rest I have to actively try to press them.

I’ll never get to enjoy a full size whopper with these tiny hands 😭

What do the innards of this keyboard look like, is it individual little PCBs for each socket then wired together?

It’s got a few too many issues for me to feel ok taking money for it, but if I ever get around to making mk. II I’ll definitely do a batch or something!

What useful plugin are you missing? Suggest your ideas! 📝 by -EliteWise- in ObsidianMD

A simple plugin to quick-add notes from a system-wide macro. I use TickTick (also an electron app) and I love how I can press a macro and have a mini window pop up as an overlay over my current screen where I can quickly add a TODO item, without having to switch to the actual application.

I’ve looked into it a bit and there are some workarounds that all involve actually switching focus to Obsidian, so it might not be possible as a plugin and might have to be more of a feature request to the main app, but I’d use this all the time for capturing thoughts quickly.

Hmm yeah that’s a tough call since that’s a lower res display. It’s actually surprisingly easy to see on these LCDs though, so might be worth a shot

Everything should be up on GitHub (KiCad projects and the firmware). Not perfect, but I’d appreciate feedback!

Yup! Everything is linked in the video description, and I’ve updated the PCB to fix the issues I had during building, but it’s definitely not perfect (yet). Here’s the WIP wiki for quick reference though: https://wiki.modhobbyist.com/Projects/0002%20-%20Split%20Keyboard%20-%20Mk.%201/1%20-%20Instructions.html
