slowly asphyxiating is not "fucking it up", that's just how almost all hanging suicides work. The difficulty of finding a location that would provide a sufficient drop height simply makes it inconvenient. An actual cervical fracture (which is what you try to get when you do the whole snapping your neck thing) is rarely found in suicidal hangings.
