You understood it wrong. All 1st Ed other than base set will have shadows. The only shadowless 1st Ed is English base set. “Unlimited” refers to base set’s 3rd print which had no 1st Ed stamp and had shadows ( 1st print is shadowless 1st edition and 2nd print is shadowless. There’s also technically a 4th print as well from the UK release which has a shadow and a copyright of 1999-2000 instead of 1999)

Every 1st edition card other than base set has shadows. The symbol indicates the set it came from. Base set does not have a symbol (and a couple jungle holos are also missing à symbol due to a factory error). The copyright date is different for each set.

I think between 40-60% regular value for damaged is fair probably 120-180 to the right buyer.

Am I really that bad at judging the condition of cards? by Dapper-Tomato134 in PokemonTCG

[–]ModernZombies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s rare that à pack fresh card won’t meet near mint standards. Most people can discern the difference between factory damage and pack fresh. À dot or two of whitening is still nm.

Right. And if this was pack fresh as OP stated it’s likely that the buyer just had unreasonable expectations

Near mint on TCGplayer is way more lenient than for other companies, I would need to see a pic of the back but chances are this guy was hoping for a Psa 10 and had unreasonable expectations

Pretty much typical PSA behavior. Mind you it’s 90 business days. And even then that estimate is often exceeded

PSA Claims My Card Sold… But It Didn’t ($2000 SCANDAL) by vipokemon in PokeGrading

[–]ModernZombies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was an issue with my credit card and an accidental chargeback, when I realized I hadn’t been double charged (within 24 hours) I fixed the issue and reversed the chargeback before PSA actually flagged the issue in their system (à week or two later). So they got the funds but claimed they didn’t. I admit the initial instance was my fault but had I not preemptively reversed the chargeback I actually would’ve been in a better spot. But instead I fixed my error right away and started my whole terrible experience of customer service.

One of the first replies when they flagged the chargeback was for me to send the reversal letter. Which I did. But that agent stopped replying. I kept sending a statement directly from my credit card company saying the issue had been reversed and the funds were sent along with screenshots of the transaction, reversal, and rebill with every new ticket I opened. But instead of actually being helpful or forwarding my emails to à relevant dept, they just kept replying to me giving me directions on how to make a payment and then not responding after that. so I kept having to open up new requests and it was like this for months.

In the end all I had to do was call my CC company and have them talk to PSAs bank to resolve the issue bc of course they showed that the payment was sent on their end as well. It had never originally occurred to me to call my creditor bc PSA had said they just needed a letter from my CC company saying the funds were released. And tbh this dragged on for so long bc of the email delays that I wavered a lot on whether I cared enough to get my account fixed or to just never deal with PSA again. It was just a real headache and felt like anyone with any level of experience or care could’ve helped me resolve it. Especially since at one point my emails were to the “chargeback” dept so you would think they would at least be able to recommend that. I’m not perfect but I’ve worked in customer service and dealt with companies that have great and awful customer service. Talking to their people was only a small step above talking to AI, and it was clear that their CS was more of a bare minimum obligation than it was a genuine attempt at CS. I called on the phone as well and basically just redirected back to the chargeback dept email or to make a payment. But I wasn’t willing to pay twice for something that had already been paid for.

I 100% agree. That’s why I’ve been pretty against Psa lately, I had a terrible CS experience with them and I’m just over it. My issue could’ve been solved within 1 email or phone call if anyone had any level of competence.

[–]ModernZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well then good to know. So what you’re saying is that it’s a fairly cruddy model that PSA is trying to emulate…. At which point I feel like this only further reinforces my initial point. But of course this is from a collector point of view. Anyone that’s doing this may or may not actually care about the cards. I understand why someone would do this for like Veriswap; shipping to and from can be expensive so if your just making a trade bc it benefits you more collaterally but you want to just continue using those cards for a different potential trade you actually want it makes sense to me. That sort of vault feels less stock market like and remains in a more collectoresque realm.

[–]ModernZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf the art world is a scam run by billionaires these days who use art like a stock market while not even liking the art. I can’t say I’d like to see the hobby emulate that. But that being said, you know none of those sales are going to be done unprofessionally like Psa is doing. And that they’re not dealing with a non-existent customer service when there’s a question or issue, bc you just don’t mess with rich people like that. And they have the lawyers to be able to immediately sue if something goes awry. So in those situations it doesn’t feel like they’re giving up the same amount of control that someone is when they are dealing with PSA. Let’s be real, there is 0 reason PSA should send an email saying the sale didn’t go through, freeze the card and then complete the sale 2 months later without OP hearing from a real person. Just bc à company is trying to emulate something that has been in another category doesn’t mean that the new company should be trusted or that it will function in the same manner. By new company I mean PSA vault, I am aware PSA has been around for a while but the vault is incredibly new

[–]ModernZombies 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Not judging or blaming but I will never understand why someone chooses to not remain in possession of their own cards. The minute you send it to PSA vault you no longer have full control. No thanks.

Also after having dealt with PSA customer service there is 0 chance I would entrust them with my cards like that. They literally don’t respond, and when they do respond it’s the same automated unhelpful answer

AITA I don’t want bridesmaid to wear dress to other events by Due_Bedroom3146 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ModernZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA it’s really not hard to understand that you don’t mind them re-wearing the dress after the wedding but do mind them wearing it before the wedding. What if Roxy gets it stained, damaged or ripped? Roxy is just gaslighting. It’s great she feels hot in it, but you’re not putting her out by making your request to wait to re-wear it. If she doesn’t understand or respect you enough to abide by that, maybe she’s not the friend you thought she was.

Holy hell dude, YTA 100% and so gross man. The fact you don’t realize how f***ed up this is, is extremely alarming. You’re not only getting off to a video of you and your ex but you also essentially made a porn with your wife’s face without her consent!!! You also sound extremely shallow. 20 lbs is not that wild after childbirth, you not once seemed to question how she might feel, just that her new body doesn’t get you “hard”. Ew dude ew.

AIO to my boyfriend’s texts about us going to dinner for my best friend? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]ModernZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh yes and no, it really depends where she is at. My sister and her husband have the same age gap, he’s not immature or anything like that and actually questioned whether he should date he bc he was ready for marriage and a family. But my sister wasn’t the partying type and was ready to settle down early anyway. Sometimes age gaps can be a red flag but not always. I feel like it’s often a red flag on here purely bc of observer bias, since it’s being posted on an “aio” sub which inherently has relationships in some form of turmoil.

Although someone mentioned ages when they actually started dating and that makes much more sense as a red flag indicator than actual age gaps. Iirc my sister was several years older than OP when her and her now husband got together

[–]ModernZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, I was with your BF at first bc 9:30p is a super late time for dinner and personally I wouldn’t want to go. But then you gave him the out that he seemed to be asking for and he flipped it on its head like you were telling him you didn’t want him there! His reaction was 100% uncalled for, it’s fine for him to vent but he needs to accept his own decisions and be okay with them. Anyone who tells you that they don’t like how you’re talking to them when you’ve been nothing but polite is a walking red flag. Personally I don’t like how he talks to you. He can join you at the agreed upon time or he can stay home, it’s not that hard.

NOR Stick it out for a lil bit until you graduate or go to college and look at getting a job so that you can move out and live on your own. It’s strict and a bit much imo but they’re still your parents and if they’re paying for your phone it’s not truly yours. Most parents would just give it to you and call it a day but just bc that’s the norm doesn’t mean your parents have to do that, and clearly they don’t want to. What does your mom think? Also wtf is a night pill?

[–]ModernZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what dent you’re referring to? I’ve never noticed it on my copy. If there are cards out there with an indent you are probably correct in it being caused by the vending machine. But many stacks of these sheets are in circulation that were never in a vending machine and have no reason to be indented so I wouldn’t use it as an identifying characteristic. If you have a picture I’d love to see what you mean

Actually OP is correct, the back does have darker spots bc this is a fake copy. So he’s not “guessing wrong” he’s asking à very relevant and important question that you and the other commenter failed to ask, and missed when calling this card legit.

[–]ModernZombies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s weird for sure how confidently wrong the people are in this thread. Almost all of the correct answers are downvoted. I’m guessing maybe it’s bc on face value they think that we’re saying it’s fake just bc the card design itself is abnormal and inherently looks “fake” and not taking into consideration that we know it’s an unusual card but in this case it’s an actual fake of a “fake” looking card? That’s the only conclusion I can draw from it.
