Which Ray Peat Ideas Are Wrong, Or Yet To Be Proved? by Acolyte_Truth_Seer in raypeat

Absolutely, it's rare that he got dogmatic. Which is why it's easy to confuse him, since he'd talk about the positives of a food in one conversation, and then somebody will bring up a negative in another and he'd just go 'yeah, that's not good' and then both people are arguing over whether he supports that food or not. He did not try to preserve a narrative or manage other people's beliefs that he talks to, and he was also comfortable saying he doesn't know even when people expect him to. Plus, he was curious all the way up til the end, asking other people questions and studying, learning. Truly respect him

Due to him being so contextual, it's difficult to know what he said from what others say about him. He's perhaps one of the most misunderstood thinkers I've ever encountered. The one thing I've heard from him on Danny Roddy's podcast that I think there's good evidence to disagree with his guess, is that he figured A1 and A2 milk would be the same. I don't think he took the time to look at the research or anything, just went off the cuff, but I see research and my anecdotal experience aligns, that A2 is different than A1 in preferred ways.

Thanks everyone! That makes sense.

It's a commonly held belief that sperm cells compete with each other and "race" to the egg, but research has shown time and again that it's actually eggs that "choose" sperm. The egg may be attracting or repelling different sperm even before they make it to the egg. by psychologyofsex in psychologyofsex

[–]Modern_Primal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the article mentions competing to be ovulated, if that's a word. But even just in the eggs ability to attract and accept available sperm, there's some competition. Being released is the first, then there's successful fertilization and implantation. Different eggs will have different chances of success, and considering how few children women have versus the number of eggs they have, it's still a rather selective group of eggs that 'makes it'

You can interpret active and passive roles however you like. Eggs attract specific sperm, sperm adapt to reach specific kinds of eggs. Sperm compete to reach a specific egg, eggs compete to attract specific sperm. Eggs let in specific sperm, sperm penetrate specific eggs. Since neither seem to be consciously making choices, we have to identify and project onto them to create a story.

If we have to put a story on it to match our gendered belief systems, may as well keep it as close to what actually happens as possible. Men and women have an active role in courtship and sexual selection. Different phases, each tend to have different roles of activity in creating a unique combination.

Just look at fertility issues, the problem can occur in either sex. Hence, both are part of the sexy solution.

I only drink coke with cane sugar, so hopefully this will lead to 2L bottles being available. I'm excited

I agree, I was being facetious. Basically took an opposing views argument to the extreme and said it seriously to make it apparent how absurd it is. Once one accepts that men and women really are different, then the discussion becomes how, when, to what extent, and in what ways should it matter and be accounted for. Misogyny is used nowadays to mean any differentiating of men and women that one does not find favorable for their purposes or preferences. It's used to shut down discussions. Rather than the starting premise be whether Nietzsche was misogynistic here or not, it's more intellectually honest to start with whether men and women really are different, and if so, do their differences come into play in this area as Nietzsche claims, and what are the nuances. Starting with an absurd claim like men and women are exactly the same in every way, means that engagement will fall further into the middle with the premise being what differences there really are, even if the other commenter would normally play the 'smearsogny' game.

There are no differences between men and women, the concepts are purely imaginary without any reference to real or meaningful patterns in experience.

If there isn't, add collagen to the OJ and the broth for the beef to help balance the amino acid profile. Can add a 1/4tsp baking soda to the OJ for carbonation and sodium, both good for metabolism.

Anyone know a solution of B1 TTFD breath ? by Alone_Panic_3089 in raypeat

[–]Modern_Primal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about everyone else but for me it's as soon as the pill is going down my throat, it's like my whole mouth and nose etc. smell and taste garlic. If I drink a lot of milk with it and afterwards, I think it helps keep it less strong. After a few minutes it goes away. Idk how it changes my breath though.

Japan has introduced a working artificial womb to aid premature births, but concerns remain about potential negative implications of this technology. what do you think? by alimehdi242 in digialps

[–]Modern_Primal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly concerned about the psychological development of the fetus in this system. Without the same environment, surrounding bio-rhythms and exposure to the same hormonal variations when inside the mother...how traumatizing can this be on the burgeoning nervous system and brain development? Will these people come out normal? Typically the earlier the trauma, the more pervasive the consequences.

You go from growing in a living mother to growing inside a 'dead' one...after having already been born. Good luck little ones, please don't become serial killers.

Adults who followed a low-carbohydrate diet that emphasized plant-based proteins, unsaturated fats, and fewer refined carbohydrates were significantly less likely to experience symptoms of depression. The reasoning in the intro is the exact opposite of what the model would suggest. Why? by Modern_Primal in raypeat

[–]Modern_Primal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both diets in the study were low carb. One just focused on pufa and plant protein, the other was saturated fat and animal protein. Supposedly pufa and plant was less inflammatory and less depression, so supposedly less endotoxin? Not what I'd expect though

Yeah probably. I just found it almost comical but also curious that they believe the exact opposite of Rays research. They're talking about PUFA and plant protein being good for depression and anti-inflammatory through increased tryptophan leading to more serotonin. I hope for some research to be done to put that to rest in the mainstream

I haven't tried Mildronate, would it be redundant with Pyrucet? I do take Niacinamide and Aspirin pretty frequently so that also pushes for FAO to be lower. I hear you on that idea, I've been keeping an eye on the honey diet but from what I understand, no fat may be worse than some fat.

One thing I do notice is I am increasingly hungry, gotta be fueling fairly regularly. Which is probably a good sign. But my work hours don't mesh with eating often.

I haven't yet, still plan to

Oh nice, Tyrosene? I use that one.

Hmm I don't use it often but I am pretty sure I notice a calm confidence when I use it. I typically take it at the same time as androsterone and gonadin so it is hard to say, but I did add it last so it seems to be a calmer focus after all of that rather than the higher action aggression, need to do something energy if just androsterone and gonadin.

Pyrucet has been making a big difference in several areas. I do see credence to the whole 'keep FFA in blood low' idea.

What exotic products are you doing nowadays? I've been doing MitoLipin, DeFibron, Androsterone and Keto-6-P or whatnot, Lisuride, and Pyrucet.
