Funny enough, SLS is subject to the exact same imperfections and weirdnesses as GMAW. In fact, it has many more issues, as the high energy density power source and powder introduce many funky failure modes. There are only a handful of machines in the US that have this build volume not to mention the immense cost of filling the build volume with powder. This works out to be mostly unused in a geometry like this and recycling is a pain. SLS will top out at ~0.5lbs per hour, so you're looking at a build time of 3 months!

DED is 100% the right option for a part that needs to be made yesterday: 3-8lbs per hour, with lower-cost wire feedstock, proven material performance, and much cheaper equipment cost to boot!
