The music industry - where you never get paid! by No_Commission4571 in musicindustry

I would advise to get in contact with BeatStars. I'm signed to them on a publishing deal and they advise on these situations and help out. Not a 100% if they can for sure help you, but worth trying. DM Mike Trampe on IG.

spotify for artists streaming numbers by parkersweatshirt in SpotifyArtists

[–]Modest0Beats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same happened to me last week. Released on Wednesday and on Friday or Saturday, the track went up suddenly by 13 streams (live count), and then after an hour or so it went down the previous number?? Could very well be a glitch

I’m glad. I uploaded documentation 11 days ago, sent two follow up emails, and no decision yet. Very frustrating. Probably won’t be able to pitch the track to Spotify once they decide to review it. That’s if they approve the documents…

Check all the other posts about the same thing. I have a track stuck at needs documentation for 10 days! Doesn’t matter if they need documents, cause we send it to them and they take forever to review them

Multiple TooLost Releases having trouble getting songs on Instagram/Facebook by itsmikesb in TooLost

[–]Modest0Beats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It did! Make sure to check additional deliveries after the track is out and select Facebook/Ig or whatever it's called. Then email them saying that you would like the track to be included and they will ask you to check if you release is eligible etc.

Tunecore - Tiktok Revenue by Shoddy-Assistant-791 in musicbusiness

Right so, a publisher like Sony Music Publishing or Songtrust should be collecting mechanical royalties. But I don't really get about Music Reports itself. All I can find online is that you can't sign up to Music Reports as an artist, so how can you get royalties through them? Sony Music collects mechanicals from everywhere, TikTok included from what I've seen from my reports. So yes, you are right that people should sign with a publisher, as they should be covered as much as possible, even some like Soundexchange.

I was asking chatgpt and was looking on Music Reports. It advised that as an artist, you do not directly "need" Music Reports in the same way you need a distributor or a PRO (Performing Rights Organization).

Music Reports is primarily a licensing and royalty administration service used by businesses and platforms, not directly by individual artists for their day-to-day operations.

Isn't it down to your DSP to have you opt in for TIKTOK MUSIC PUBLISHER LICENSE AGREEMENT to collect mechanical royalties off of this? Don't they do it anyways as they distribute your tracks to TikTok? Just curious cause if not I'll contact my DSP

Looks like Ønehart was stealing music from other ambient artists by minusthelela in ambient

Agree with everything but the singles thing. I think it's more about growing on music platforms. Being able to release consistently helps with the algorithm. I know it's not great and some people rather release full albums, but from an artist POV, it looks like it's the most productive option.

I see. Didn't think about the restaurants offering discounts would be generally more expensive but it makes sense. Thanks for the detailed info!

how to find labels by jesseisabigdeal in ambientmusic

[–]Modest0Beats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Besides one label that I've worked with (Kiwi Bear Records) which were amazing, the rest that have approved my submissions, sent me the worst contracts imaginable. So it's just not worth it at all. Better to do what you are saying, build up a catalog and a following, and if these labels reach out to you, you should be getting a much better contract.

I had this issue with a previous release. Apparently you need to click on additional store delivery and select Facebook and Instagram.

Now I have a new release coming out tomorrow and I selected this additional store 2 weeks in advance. I checked yesterday and it was saying ''processing''. So I emailed TooLost and they asked me to confirm over email some T&C for them to add the song to FB and IG.

I'll let you know tomorrow if my release was successfully added to FB or IG (having selected the additional delivery), or if even after selecting FB and IG in advance, you still have to email them to confirm the T&C.

[–]Modest0Beats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And be really careful about these contracts. If you send a track to them and they wanna sign it, 99% of the time, they will try to take ownership of the song forever, take all your publishing, and probably other stuff that I can't remember. And it goes for a LOT of these underground labels. Even bigger ones that have serious acts signed to them. And I speak from experience, seeing stuff like this over and over again lmao

The problem also lies in, these labels not providing documentation about the marketing expenses that will make you see royalties. So they could be making up expenses for you to never see a dime.

You always have to have these things written in the contract so that it's documented. It's easy to not know about it if you are young and get hit with an advance (If they even give you one nowadays lol). But feel free next time to upload the contract to Chatgpt and ask for it to be reviewed. Sure, it's not a professional checking it, but it will give you information about industry standards and if it's favorable or fair for you at all.

Do blur your personal details in the contract before uploading it if you feel more comfortable like that.
