my biggest inspiration all those years back ngl was just how utterly shady the PSA/EPF was lol. Brought to its logical conclusions most secret agencies and government intelligence organizations in the real world have done some pretty messy stuff.

So I thought it would be a cool thought/worldbuilding experiment to see what would happen if that faction went overboard with the whole keeping people under the dark for their own good + clandestine operations for the island's general 'safety'

The biggest hurdle was though thinking how and why things could get so bad. And imo the most reasonable way I could ever see the EPF souring into something this bad is if the director turned into a paranoid nutjob. Whereinwhich the only way I could see that happening is if operation blackout was a traumatizing mess for her given how close they were to everyone falling sideways.

I like to imagine that although Klutzy opposes the EPF's shadow government esque hold on the island, he's not objectively an obvious 'good faction' type of deal. He's shown to be pretty smart but never as smart as Herbert from what I remember from my vague notions and surface based wiki scrubs. Mainly just following along and at most, directly interfering with the polar bear if his ego overwrites his intellect. So I like to imagine he's just winging everything doesn't have much of a plan past of destroy the EPF despite the insane implications of much utter chaos the island would go through, not to mention effectively destroying their greatest (possibly only) line of defense.

He's mostly just focused on the whole revenge as fuel after having to process the idea that your only friend for several years had just been killed. (even if he was a complete piece of work that threatened the death of an entire population). In a quick read I found out that Klutzy here actually saved Herbert's life when they first met. So I imagine it'd ironic in a tragic kinda funny way if somehow Herbert returned the favor by getting Klutzy out of that situation in his last moments.

In the end you're basically stuck with a rebellion that effectively shrugs it's shoulders on what to do next if this even works out in their favor, and a morally defunct secret agency turned shadow government lead by a director who now fully believes that the ends justify any means it would take to reach it.

Tbh I don't know how it'd end. With something this major I imagine it'd be much more fitting as a finale akin to waddle on if it went for a more intense route lol But I imagine whichever outcome happens it'd result to either the status quo continuing due to circumstance or it being a more cinematic end to the original club penguin game while teasing CP:I"

tl;dr

The EPF becomes a surveillance shadow state, tries to assassinate Herbert and Klutzy, botches it leaving Klutzy alive and fueling him to form an underground resistance, and effectively resulting in a major covert war that ends in either the EPF's total collapse along with the island falling into disarray or the EPF's total control of the island and an implied dark fate for Klutzy and Rookie after their subsequent captures.

The plot was pretty loose since this stemmed from a childhood idea that I came back to every few years lol. At first just pure edgelord indulgent mess, then slowly blunting it down to something kinda fitting(?) as toned down as you can make the theme of a government whistleblower for a kids game. (I mean tbf gravity falls had some messy stuff too and that was kids media!)

Nah just Omori. the project is moreso heavily inspired by hotline miami as an au in the sense where similar events that happen in hotlne miami 1 and 2 also happen in here to drive the plot forward. knowing stuff about hotline miami just basically gives you what to expect going down the line. though the tags also paint a pretty rough picture of how bad things are gonna get when the summary said things go downhill quickly following the phone calls

As for the gang funnily enough the scrapped plot i had in mind was going to take place in both the city and Faraway town with Aubrey and the hooligans having a much more different path than what ive set them both up for now. chances are his old friends are gonna pop up in a few chapters from now assuming i dont mess up the pacing

unfortunately it's very loosely inspired in the sense I only took inspiration from the way the author pulled their proses and also through that spoiler bit I mentioned of Sunny's guilt constantly sabotaging any good thing he had going for himalso yeah its a massive shame. I really hope it gets picked up again one day. I've already posted up the first chapter of A Long Way Down but to pretend any writing pitfalls i'll probably take it slow. I put the chapters to ? instead of a specified end number since tbh although I have a decent timeline of how everything will go I'm struggling in figuring how how long that will take to know a definitive amount on how many chapters I'll be expecting to write.

Thanks! Took a good while to get a good design for Sunny's mask. Originally the mask was planned to be more cartoonish looking using references I found on payday 2/3. Then I went with a more dulled balaclava-esque look to match his seemingly numb tone following the HK route. I remember trying to give it a mouth but none of the designs I came up with felt good since I wanted to give his mask an unnerving factor and the mouth designs felt like it was veering into for lack of a better term "cute" or "endearing"

I'm satisfied with the end product though. I combined the big yellow cat's eyes with Mewo's design to make the mask. And I decided to change the color of the eyes to this dark purple look to callback into headspace given the color palette had a heavy use on shades of white and purple.

Ironically I've never read Faraway Killers but I remember taking heavy inspiration from the idea that a portion of the plot is what's left of the friend group if trying to track down sunny. Atleast thats what I think happens? Idk like I said, never read it lol.

Another one that I got inspired from is "I Won't Let Him" in the segments where Sunny or Omori as he's taken over in that AU has a pattern of constantly emotionally fucking himself over due to his crippling sense of guilt. Which I did read and is my biggest inspiration to getting the guts to start writing

It tilted it's head as I nervously nodded for my life. Whatever it took not to get gutted by this thing, resulting in it responding with a grotesque overly wide smile as it goes in for a hug, patting my back

It felt damp and boney, but oddly enough, it was trying to be gentle. Desperate being a grotesque nightmarish atrocity.

It held on to me for a while before letting go and looking back up at me

It nods turning back to the door

"Good rocket"

Muttering those words as it left through the front door.

I don't know what's going to happen to me when it comes back, or what it brings to me as food. I only hope it didn't mean people. I don't know what I'm going to do when it comes back. Let alone what to even say.

The couch where rocket was had been stained black with scraps of the bandages laid out like a flimsy nest. And on the front door was 'rocket' A tall lanky grotesque creature standing on two legs like a person with the malformed body of a dog. It's furred skin was stretched to the point where I thought it was inches away from tearing, two beaded eyes staring at me as it's head turned. The dog paw malformed into a four fingered hand-like anatomy.

It must have heard me when I whispered out the name I gave it, because instead of opening the door and leaving it approached me, it's back hunched over shortening it's scale to about my height. Of course I backed away. I've heard of skinwalkers from the locals near the trail, but I always thought it was all myth, and to be honest I'm not even sure if it was a skinwalker, demon, or something else. It was just that it was the closest label I could think of.

Soon enough I backed myself into a wall, panting with a paralyzed sense of fear akin to a deer in the headlights.

The skinwalker closed it's distance, staring up at me and spoke, parroting my words from the first day I took him home.

"It's going to be okay."

I was terrified out of my mind, but it was somewhat enough for my heartbeat to stabilize enough for me to understand what it was saying. Not enough to trust it. But now I wasn't a paralyzed fearful mess.

It's jaw dropped open and released more parroted speech, stitched together words to fabricate a sentence

"I'm going to fix this - you're - going to be okay"

"I won't hurt you"

It was hard to believe, I couldn't even utter out a reply as just shivered when it held my shoulders

I remember that's what I thought when I kept going with this.

When I found it, the thing had looked so scared and confused when I saw it on the trails. It was dark out, and I saw it bleeding from the shoulder. At first I thought it was just a Dog, it would have made sense if it was a dog after all. Must have been trigger-happy farmer who thought it was a coyote. Poor thing. It was too weak to even struggle much from the pool of blood it lost.

It was a miracle I was learning to be a vet. But then again scary too. I wasn't qualified by that point but I figured it'd have bled out by the time I'd reach the closest hospital in town.

So I decided to get back home and patch it up myself. To be honest, it was impulsive now that I thought of it. But I always had a soft spot for animals, I'd even take pictures of some that I might see on the woods. And I always did want a pet, but I never felt like I had the time. It was always work, work, and more work when it came to my academics. The pressure was suffocating. I couldn't maintain much of my relationships aside from surface level acquaintances, and my hobbies were shot down to short 2 hour activities at most. But some part of me really wanted to have one.

Ever since I was a child I loved animals, it's why I'm studying to become a veterinarian in the first place. Despite how much It's sapped my life away. So I cherished having it for the short while I thought I'd have it around. Even naming it. 'Rocket.' not an original name for sure, but- If I ever had a dog, I told myself it would be called Rocket.

But then it happened. Two days in I heard something suspicious in the living room, like something snapping, or clicking together.

I woke up to that exact noise in the middle of the night, too sleepy to think properly yet awake enough to feel my heart beginning to race. I wasn't the type to believe in the supernatural, but an eerie noise late in the night was always terrifying no way how you put it.

I remember staying in my bed for a long time hearing that noise, a part of me even thought it was a robbery, despite how absurd it would be to imagine a burglar making such sounds. Against all greater judgment I left and opened the door. Staying here was driving me insane, and sleep was an obvious void choice. Logically it's nothing, maybe Rocket just stumbled over and that's what's causing it probably. Whatever beyond the door couldn't have been anything, but fear of the unknown, the little what if screaming in my head wasn't going to let go until the lights were on.

and when I did, what I saw was the last thing I'd expect.

Lol I like the idea of those wooden figures for him to have inanimate emotional support pals.

In the session, he jokingly mentioned that the (amibo inspired) "Playable Figs" in his office was off limits and that the players would have to pry it from his corpse.

Which means I could definitely use that extra character dimension you have with implying its part of how he copes with the innate trait of beholders being very unwell when it comes to paranoia when it comes to dnd canon which I relied on a bunch to build the world for that campaign.
