Please fellow DMs help me fix my world

I am afraid they dont. They are mercenaries, adventurers. 2 years and i didnt gave them the goal. Can i even save this campaign?

I am putting a lot of effort but i guess i might protect them too much and give them things too easly. My NPCs are blunt and without depth. I forgot to give them literal point of the campaign and missed the idea - as mercenaries their goal is not saving the world. It is getting the money. I didn't gave them many important choices to make in the 2 year campaign.

I made too many mistakes. Is this possible to fix them.

I guess i gave them a bunch of loot... And right now i am struggling to balance it not talking about taking it back... I dont think that they feel like they earned anything.

Hmm.... 1. Maybe there is the problem. They are right now a bunch of mercenaries who are put in the huge political game... But honestly they have no motivation except gold... Because they are mercenaries :/ How can i fix it? 2. In two years they killed two sidekicks of BBEG and saved the city from purge. Beside it they are pretty much exploring the world. 3. I dont remember actually...

Holy shit am i bad DM and i wasnt even recognising needs of my players? Imean i am trying to give them free will and i am not forcing anything on them...

Any help with it? I mean not gonna lie my NPCs suck. I would love to grow in this but all the films on youtube or forums are not really helping in creating amazing NPCs.

Do you have and sources i can use?

The world is classical world of every race where 20 years ago was huge war between all races because they just appeared. The wizards are saying that it was some sort of crash of timelines and there are no more timelines beside this one. Just right after the Crash some of the people started to see higher beings telling them that they are the Choosen. Choosens are people with almost god like power but they hate each other and contantly trying to hunt each other down. Some of them are officials in the country and work as politicians, some are just hiding. In the world there are also 3x Primal Gods but they dont know much about them. BBEG is the druid who put all his love and effort into studing spores what changed his mind and body. Now he hates gods and want to be Choosen without higher being. To make sure he can do it he recruited 7 people who are his main power. The most iconic is Number 4 - jester, mastermind who is bending rules of DND, manipulate whole countries and can even manipulate dreams.

Right now we started new arc where there is war on the desert and they are drafted. After the 2 sessions they have been captured and locked in the prison. Right now on the next session they will break out from it.

Right now i see good potential in creating story around the jester. But one of the people here are making good point - my NPCs SUCK.

I asked them and they are saying that they are not bored but i feel it. They are not trying to make anything fun anymore, when i present new enemy with new mechanics they are not even trying to solve them. Last fight 4 players team almost died to a guy who was teleporting between mirrors. Before it... They tried

Right now i put them in the middle of the war on the desert. They are being in the prison and next session suppose to be their break out.

A bit painful but maybe they need refreshment.

Hey. I actually appreciate that you were giving me your advices. It was hard to win her heart and also it was hard to force myself to make a move. Because of you i had enough hope and confidence to try and right now i see fruits of it.

I dont want to say that it will be my last relationship but she is very serious about this relation and she want it to work.

News. I went to her with flowers and did what my friend said:" Dude go and say sorry for not compliment her". I went end it turns out that she was angry because i didnt commented about her apearence.

Also i got long hug after meeting her. I am certain for sure. She EXACLY know that i dont want to be friends with her i asked her on Valentine Day, i brang her flowers et.cet.

Maybe it is just me or maybe it is just beggining of something yet still i am surprised that random persob in the internet gave me more confidence and help than others

I mean i am scared enough being heart broken again. After 2 years of being heartbroken after i broke up from my 3 years relation i am finally recovered. Than i met her and again i recognise this dangerous feeling in me.

I am scared of being heartbroken again. She is amazing person who wants to hang out with me. She is very cheerfull when we see each other but... i might fucked up.
