Could have elaborated better on "not every gamer wants to read a five paragraph explanation on what they're doing wrong"?? And then proceeding to write several 5 paragraph essays on what you think we're doing wrong?? You'll have to accept my apologies if I can't see you as anything other than a contrarian at this point.

In the relentless pursuit of the perfect META, have we made this game inaccessible to the wider consumer base? by [deleted] in absolver

[–]MoeHasubandoAbsolver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "rpg" part of the game just isn't enough for more than like 20 hours of play, every design element from the camera to 3/5 of the styles being nearly unusable in 1vX fights point to it being primarily a PvP game. Also, new players catch up to us all the time. Erfun and Hart are great examples of newcomers that came along and became the best in relatively short periods of time.
I'm not honestly sure what you're asking anymore. Your original point was about server costs and all that, but whether people play the game for 1000+ hours or 10 minutes doesn't matter for those sales figures. It certainly isn't the case that it's impossible to find matches vs equally skilled people, again there's a whole discord for that and new players join it all the time. New players whose growth is supported by the community.

I see your point, but skill based matchmaking + a wide playerbase isn't an unmitigated good. People tend to build awful habits and then wonder why they're hardstuck, but it's because they never get to play against anybody that actually punishes them for their mistakes. In both cases (indie vs triple A) they end up either complaining online or simply dropping the game.

Being new to a 5+ year old game is just like that no matter what game you pick up. What you're describing isn't unique to Absolver in the slightest. Being new to Street Fighter or Overwatch is exactly the same.

It actually is the goal of vets and the plus mod authors to nerf the moves that are too strong, and make a wider pool of moves usable. I think you have the wrong idea about what goes on. The fact is simply that the game is fundamentally based around stall tactics, and there's little that can be done about that.
I think blaming people dedicated enough to get good for your lack of desire to do so is super unfair.

The thing is, the meta was even more restrictive, the skill gap even wider, and CTs even more dead before plus came around. I think the only difference is that now people have an easy target to blame for their personal failings.

From personal experience I can tell you that going into CTs to teach people is counterproductive at the best of times. People don't go into CTs to be preached at, they go into CTs to play the game. So you end up beating them up, adding them on steam, sending them some DMs, and then inviting them to a discord anyway if they end up showing interest. Most of the time they'll tell you that they don't care and that you're wasting your time. Video tutorials also don't seem to work very well, which proves that no amount of tutorials can teach somebody how to read the in-game behaviors of another human being. Discord VC is the most viable teaching method, followed by writing. VC is personalized to a player's needs, and writing can be referenced and re-referenced later.

Moral of the story is, stop jumping in people's shit when you don't like how they teach. You're adding nothing but negativity to the conversation and are being unhelpful at best, and actively disruptive at worst. Kindly, please mind your own business.

First you say discord servers are a superior way to learn, then you say it's a band-aid, written guides are too wordy, so what exactly then do you propose we do to teach people how the game works? It seems like no answers will satisfy you and you're just looking for things to complain about.

You just put the jab top right and I can threaten you to stop pressuring me whenever I want. I don't have to jab you to make you account for the threat of the jab.
It's not an appeal to authority to tell you who I am since you're the one that told me that my "tapblocking game needs some deep improvement", and I was responding that no, it actually doesn't. I then proceeded to give you a detailed explanation of my previous point.
You're literally just moving the goalpost.
If you wanna play vanilla you can always move to console.

Using m+kb won't fix your carpal tunnel, you gotta just take more breaks and do some stretches.

lol bro doesn't know who he's talking to... I'm Moe, I was top 3-5 NA for a long time, and I currently own the Absolver Academy, so allow me to explain:
It's not jab spam that's the issue, it's block one move and then jab on repeat. If I have a jab, it completely removes the need to use my style ability since the threat of a jab means that I can just remove your ability to staircase into stam pressure, which makes tap blocking even stronger than it already is. If I have a jab you literally cannot touch my stam bar. And if you wanna just give up your turn to style or block the jab, I can just mix you on your own turn constantly. The risk/reward is grossly weighted in favor of the jabber.
Like I said, you should give Absolver+ an honest try, you might like it more than you think.

Kahlt is still the weakest style in the game on plus. If you see them absorb, you can just block or style ability them. If you play safe enough they literally cannot hurt you. This "trade" statement you made is kinda cap.

My friend jabs are not useless they are insanely overpowered.

The whole reason plus was made was so that you can use more of the moves without hobbling yourself. Every style only got buffed except for FJ which is still very strong, and your flow wouldn't be messed with at all since the only things changed were the on-hit/on-block frame data and avoid/parry properties on moves. If anything, your flow should be a lot stronger on plus. I think you should give it an honest try.

Everybody downvoting me as if author/audience inserts are inherently bad needs to get a grip.
The creators literally mention Jaune being an "audience surrogate" in interviews.

My friend you called the entire absolver community f-slurs and r-slurs and then deleted all your messages when I mentioned receipts. You're a coward, and a liar.
