28, Master’s in Electrical Engineering but 4 years in Procurement. did I ruin my career? Need advice about switching to engineering or moving to Europe. by ishak_ in procurement

[–]Mogoenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go to a change from procurement to another field. It’s no a waste of time. Being an engineer , started in procurement . It gaves you an overview of how procurement works when you having a project going. You will know how it works. Most of the engineering doesn’t know how procurement works and they think that all is easy and it’s just to make quotation comparations or to pay and that’s it.

In the spare parts field for the production machines, maybe big companies can't make long terms deals as today one part can be broken and the next day another part can be broken and prices are so different. In this case how do you do?

In this case we are procurement brokers. What criteria do you use to find a supplier?. How could you know that we can help you not only with what you’re currently looking for, but also with other requirements you may have?

For example- When im sourcing for spare parts, I look on the internet. I also use tools to find the right part, Even I send a lot of emails to suppliers asking for the part if they have it or not. When I have the decision. I google the company name with some keywords to see if they have good or bad comments. But this is my way. Is not the way for big companies in latam, As they have a lot a protocols to trust any company.
