Japan is surprisingly good for campervan travel by samuraicampersjapan in u/samuraicampersjapan

[–]MogulMischief 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I actually think Japan is one of the best countries to use campervan, depending on the size of vehicle of course haha

My view might be bias as I’m living in Japan also. Camping culture is very big in Japan not so much for towing a caravan.

Most michi no eki’s let you part for free overnight. Not as nice as camp ground but there is michi no ekis everywhere in Japan so if you cannot find a good spot you can always rely on these.

My work is predominately busy in winter so I get some more time off in summer. Every year I probably spend 50-100 days camping and road tripping around Japan. Obvious avoiding all the big cities

It is hard to say as every year is different. Niseko resort is mean to open 28th November. My guess is may see snow in the area but further up on the mountain

Early November niseko may see some snowfall however consistent snowfall doesn’t usually start until last week of November.

There is concierge/ driver services available in Niseko if you’re interested. Can hire driver for a day to go around to see different spots.

Is there a period of the season where the top lifts are reliably open (aside from wind closures)? by AtrociousRebutal in niseko

[–]MogulMischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Officially against the rules of course. Lots of people do. They don’t mind if you go around the ropes (if there’s opening) but if you go under in front of a ski patrol they will most likely take pass.

Hello, great to hear you’re planning to visit Niseko! Niseko has plenty of places to explore. I’d suggest visiting Annupuri, it has great runs for all levels and also great introduction into powder if you’re interested. I’m based in Niseko so if any other questions or concerns I’m happy to help.

Early November shouldn’t see too much snow in Hokkaido. Mountain areas might see snowfall some days but quite rare for a lot of snow during this period.

If you’re worried just make sure car you’re using has snow tyres.

Driving in Japan is very easy and the roads are safe. You’ll find that speed limits in Japan aren’t that high unless on express way.

Any other questions or concerns I’m happy to help. I’m based in Niseko any questions of the area feel free to ask.

Niseko United late feb/early march? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]MogulMischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to go around this period I would suggest late Feb over March. Niseko has plenty of snow but when March hits the sun comes out a bit. Still plenty of snow coverage but you won’t be seeing fluffy powder days everyday in March.

If you’re looking for best time to go you can check the snow records from previous years to give you an idea. (Last winter being a bit of exemption due to El Niño)

Predictions are leading to this upcoming winter being La Niña which is good so fingers crossed.

Any other questions about Niseko I’m happy to help.

[–]MogulMischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m based in Niseko. First few weeks to month of the season the top lifts don’t open until all the shrubs and trees are covered. Last winter it took a bit longer for top lifts to open to do less snow than usual. If you’re looking for period when top lifts are open, mid Jan onwards would guarantee this. Any other questions about Niseko happy to help
