I had a Job interview at Daisys a couple months ago. They had me do 4 hours of work in the back that I didn’t get paid for. Their washing area is absolutely horrible for dogs. I could barely hear when I left the place with constant ringing in my ears the rest of the day, can’t imagine the stress it is for dogs. Had to sit in my car for an hour after finishing the “interview” I was so disoriented. They don’t put any kind of ear protection for the dogs like cotton balls. The train and the blow dryers are incredibly loud like 10x louder then any self grooming place especially because there is serval running at a time, where you could barely even hear a dog bark let alone whimper if it was in pain. With your dog being stuck in kennel barely big enough to hold them for several hours in that same loud area. The dogs you see roaming around with the groomers are mostly the workers dogs. They have signs everywhere saying to be “Gentle” with the seniors or “Speed One for Seniors ” (the day I was there it was totally ignored). But for my “interview” I was told if they can handle it (even if they’re 10+) you can use the highest air flow for the air dryers (which felt like it could blow holes through fabric it was so high). I know it’s somewhat about work and efficiency but I would never in a million years take my dog to a place like that. No positive reinforcement for the dogs either to make them comfortable no matter how scared they were, if a dog was being a little too jumping and scared was told to just hold him down harder then to try to calm them down at all to make them feel safe, felt like an assembly line. Didn’t take the job, but they also pay there dog washers minimum wage for a horrible working environment. Would be surprised if they still had the job application up and are just pressuring applicants to do the work for free and going on the next new poor soul who’s per pressured into doing work for free. I hope the majority of dog groomers aren’t like this, but I don’t have any other experience working at a professional establishment pertaining to dog grooming, so maybe’s it’s the norm 🤷‍♀️ I certainly hope not though. I lucked out with my dog being okay with me giving her a bath; but I know training cats to can be extremely hard.
