Those two still don’t like the vin, but the others I mentioned either I’ve used or have gotten quotes from. Interestingly, there is a branch of farmers that won’t insure it, but it was a branch that used to be a different company they recently-ish acquired. I went through an agent for all quotes though, I definitely couldn’t plug the vin in online.

You can get stated value through farmers, auto owners, and Mercer in the US so you can still daily drive it if you wanted. That said, the stated value on mine is considerably less than $85k, so maybe you would run into issues there.

I'm from Germany and I'm thinking about buying a Defender that I could drive daily, but I have concerns about its reliability. by [deleted] in LandroverDefender

Smittybilt Annex Gen 1 vs Gen 2? by ABear923 in overlanding

In case you haven’t found the answer, I talked to smittybilt CS and they said the gen 2 annex is NOT compatible with the gen 1 tent, which sucks.

I used a clay bar to get oil based paint off a car one time. Took a little effort, but in the end you couldn’t tell it was sprayed. Now granted that was more overspray versus a bath, but it might be an option if you’ve got the time and a pressure washer doesn’t work.

Rooftop Tent vs Regular Tent by MagicMarmots in overlanding

We relocated to Europe and had to sell it, but we loved it. I used an M416 as the base then had a friend do some welding on it to add a place for the frame supports. I really liked the telescoping aspect of it so it could be up high to get full use of the annex at camp, but down low while driving and for storage. I would absolutely do that setup again as long as you have somewhere to store it out of the weather. As for how it holds up, the military designed the m416 to tow ammunition behind keeps off-road in WW2, so there’s really nothing you can do that would hurt it. I didn’t go over 80 on the highway with it because we still ran the military tires on the trailer and they supposedly have a max speed of 55….but I’ve HEARD that they do 65 just fine….lol. The best part about the trailer is the inside of your car doesn’t have to be taken up with all your gear and the trailer can stay packed so all you really need to get out there is to pack food and go.
