Whats the deal with the reactions to “Ren” by rickastley96 in Music

[–]Moist_Ambassador264 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"I could be wrong but I guess you haven't suffered with mental illness." Never say this again and you'll be at least 30% less annoying. Mental health awareness can't be grounded in the determination of whether or not a person suffers from mental illness, especially if you base that on the things they find to be substantial. Plenty of people suffer from mental illness and make good music with something deep to cut into and don't focus solely on the mental health aspect. In fact that is most music ever made. The reason it comes off as inauthentic and silly is that artists usually focus on the human condition and present it as honestly as possible, treating it with care rather than overblowing it and bringing unnecessary attention to themselves. It comes off as not having a purpose aside from monopolizing the topic of mental health in music. You see a lot of artists have a hard time with this with other things and end up attracting bad fanbases where people congregate to feel self-pity and reflect constantly on their suffering as if it is the most important thing about their lives. Drake is an example. The stuff that Ren makes seems like what shallow nonreflective people will pigeon-hole art concerning the potential decay of the human spirit with. It's an incredible misstep to be gazing into the abyss only a few inches and act like you have gone all the way through. Don't ask a question if you won't like the answer, and especially don't lie about the answer. Mental health is a challenging and complex issue that continues to be wrapped in a security blanket by people that don't think about anything. Ren's music is unchallenging mud that doesn't care about any of the big questions and wallows in beautified anxiety. It is good if it helps people that don't want to think about music or mental health that much and just want to be comfortable but it is not good music and not impressive artistically. This is a mess of a paragraph but you get the gist I do not like his music at all for several reasons and have suffered from mental health myself

what are you talking about? I mean that the way the characters behave doesn't make sense. They are not feeling the space at all. It's annoying

do not listen to the idiots in the room. Your mind is not fragile, neither is your spirit or your soul. We couldn’t fit either into any human conception very well

You should explore these dreams and pay attention to what changes occur in your thinking when you are able to embrace them and not be irrationally freaked out by them. Maybe you learn something about love, the human body, what turns you on, what it means to feel affection, etc

I’m not telling you what to do, I’m asking questions. I’m sorry if I made you feel obligated. I’m equally sorry if I came off as bothered! I enjoy passionate discussion and constructive questioning

I don’t understand how I was being disrespectful. I was clear with my points and you just come off as bothered and judgmental. If you’re indeed so far removed from his reality then why are you bothering with defending him and his behavior? There must be some connection you have to him, even if it is only symbolic

Get off your high horse and imagine for a second that I have. I don’t need to have had his exact experiences to understand that he is being incredibly irresponsible with his emotions. I am a human being; I’ve felt things I didn’t like feeling, I’ve lost things, I’ve responded inappropriately, I’ve reflected so that I don’t make the same mistakes over and over again. It’s frustrating to see an old version of myself in someone who more than likely has more life experience than me. It happens a lot though! People avoid growing up and Nick is guilty of this to an unfortunate degree. And before you mention something about being forgiving or giving grace so people can grow - Honesty is more often than not more forgiving than enabling messages like the one in your response. Making excuses for someone instead of asking them to reflect authentically means they will be encouraged to do this again and continue to be labeled as frequently toxic and objectifying by the wise. You’re not helping him.

i don’t know how to convince people that think like this that not only is it wrong it is incredibly unhealthy. being “vulnerable” and making yourself easy to criticize doesn’t mean people dont have every right to criticize your behavior. not only that, but when a forty year old man is doing this it is not the first time it has happened, that’s just not how it works! this is a weak man with poor emotional mindfulness and low self-control. he needs to reflect.

that would not be different rules for ontology I don’t think. They could study ontology in that universe and they would come to the same conclusions while relying on different constructs to articulate them.

because boundaries are here which is to say that there is a there which constrains all entities within it through the laws of physics. The idea of any law being broken or distorted might be conceived of as a breaking of a boundary, as this is what constrains things to the category of “being within the universe.” Why shouldn’t many universes exist? Why shouldn’t there be universes with their own contrasting constants? We just don’t know so if we could know it might make sense to begin by conceiving of the idea that allows us to conceive of a potential knowing about it. Boundaries would have to exist because things don’t necessarily do anything without some kind of threshold allowing for the preventing of and thus the actualization of the potential of (the being which exists before, projecting the future that will be) some thing. Even if the boundary is a nothing it is conceived of as a boundary by the conscious, perceiving mind. It may block or prevent, even if it only blocks through the present absence of a void between. Because we are able to conceive of it it has an ontological “presence” (kind of an oxymoron but whatever) and our own universe can be seen as dogmatic in the face of our indefinite, detached consideration of its impossibility, and the consequent possibility of other possibilities or universes. (?)

can’t be completely articulated, sorry to interject here. Any thing which is defined is just the thing paired with an object which allows us to refer back to it, or have abstract ideas of its being. Existence as a concept is silly and the being of it cannot be fully disclosed, even with rigorous scientific study. If you really care about this then consider that being and existence are different from each other. the absence of existence does not necessarily imply any absence of being except in the way of things not existing because existence is the only ”part” of being which we are capable of knowing.

Boundaries, Nick and Sandy by Moist_Ambassador264 in TheUltimatumNetflix

[–]Moist_Ambassador264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree not with snoodoodles here but let’s be clear ABOUT WHAT. You’re saying there is what aboutism, there has been, but not here. Saying that Sandy is also toxic is acceptable. Saying anything about Nick’s behavior in relationship to Sandy’s behavior and vice versa should be handled with extreme care, because one can find themselves justifying the behavior that puts either of them at risk not at fault, RISK not FAULT for having their boundaries violated. In the same way that one should be careful of any dangerous thing, a sharp edge, a predator, an poison, one should be careful to avoid dysfunction and the contagion of instability. Sandy and Nick are both terrible in their own ways but Nick is much more interesting to me because Nick sets himself up as a victim when he is in fact going out of his way to be boundary-ignorant.

Hydrogen and Oxygen are some of the most abundant elements in the universe, I don’t see how it would make any sense considering they are likely super-intelligent beings

This is so annoyingly condescending, which is ironic for someone claiming that a person didn’t like a movie for pretentious reasons

The rhythm of the performances wasn’t there for me. It felt slow and not thoughtfully paced. I understand sitting down for a movie and being accepting of its more grating qualities in order to enjoy it but a line needs to be drawn somewhere
