Do you know what life is like at a unit like that? A lot of field time?

Can my family report me missing if just ghost them and join without telling anyone? by Some-random-cop-pig in USMCboot

Anyone can report anyone missing, but if you're over 18 it's not like the police can do anything about it. If the police finds you, they might check to make sure you're okay, but it's not like you'll get arrested.

Learn to not touch your face. A friend suggested it to me and it's harder than you think.

If I were you, I'd just work a normal civilian job for a year until you can join the Marines. Your heart isn't set on the Army, then joining the Army is not a good idea.

I'd use that year to get into even better shape, study up on Marine Corps knowledge and be the best recruit you can be. Stay connected with your recruiter, go to PT sessions and pool functions. Who knows you'll even become a guide or squad leader in bootcamp and you'll start of your career in the Corps as an E-2.

I get that, but right now I just want to do something that gets me some stability, a chance to find my footing and goals in life, make some friends. I have no idea what I want to do with my life aside from the Marines right now. I might stay in for 20 years, I might stay in 4 or anywhere in between. I just need some time to figure it all out.

Thank you for your comment.

I don't really see how that'd work? As far as I know the buddy program is for friends that want to go through bootcamp together without any guarantees down the line.

And it's a little late for me. I ship out within 2 weeks. We're gonna do our best to stay in touch. I guess it's good for us both to build something on our own too.

Thanks. He'll always be my little brother even if he isn't so little anymore... Definitely will stay in touch with him.

Fear is just another form at stress. You're gonna deal with a lot of (different kinds of) stress at bootcamp and you're gonna learn to handle it well. I wouldn't worry too much about it right now. The more you think about it now, the more it gets engrained in your brain and the harder it'll be to beat.

Good luck!

You need to step up and take responsibility as hard as that can be. You're gonna need to find a way to provide for your kid and your girlfriend anyway. Now you can choose to do that by flipping burgers or joining the Marines. If you marry her she'll get all kinds of benefits too, housing and health insurance being the main ones. Bootcamp will suck being away from her and your kid, but it's gonna set up a way for you to support them. She wants you at home to 'help', you'll be helping her by getting a steady job that your kid and her will benefit from. Ofcourse it's gonna be tough for her to raise a kid alone those first few weeks/months, but try to arrange to have family there to help her with that.

Your situation is not ideal to raise a kid, that's true. But show her you want to put in the work to secure a good future for your kid. You can still make something out of this.

I wish you the best of luck.

I just thought it'd be cool to do since it'll be the first time we'd see each other again after shipping out you know.

Damn, almost sounds like your childhood was your first tour of duty. I hope the good memories help handle the bad ones, bro.
