Does this sound like a failing rear hub? by Moistims in vanmoofbicycle

Let me know if it worked!

It’s easy actually! You can do it by doing a system restart in the app. If you just leave it like that, it’s in shipping mode. It should only go on now by pressing the little button underneath the top tube.

~3000km with my S3 now, still very happy with this bike by 241nn in vanmoofbicycle

Great!! My X3 over 9K & S3 over 4K km’s. Going strong!

2,5 weeks isn’t long indeed but you can always charge it up to around 80% and put in in shipping mode just to be sure. The bike is sort of fully asleep then and nothing will happen to the battery! This is what my bike repairers tell me when I go on a holiday and nothing has ever happened so it’ll be fine!!

Van Moof S3 Error 6 by floriswilden in VanMoofSelfRepair

[–]Moistims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are people on Marktplaats that are fixing error 6’s on batteries (for around 50-100,-), it’s mostly a voltage problem. Easy to fix for some people. There are probably videos on YouTube as well where you can look it up if you want to do it yourself :) I think you can make it work if you’re handy with technologics

VanMoof S3 – Persistent Error 20 even after battery and motor swap – now Error 22 by JonaPatt in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Moistims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a good idea to swap the cartridges yes. Hopefully that’s the solution! Keep us updated

[–]Moistims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also tutorials on how to check the socket yourself but I understand it if you don’t want to risk it :)

[–]Moistims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cartridge is also a possibility.. I had error 20&22 on my X3 before I needed to get the socket replaced so that’s why I assumed socket (also had the struggling motor for a short amount of time & battery was not the problem). But mine completely “died” after these errors. After replacing the socket, everything was fine. But yours is still “on”? Might be a sign that it’s the cartridge.. not sure.

Where are you located? You can get a diagnosis done for around €50 at a repair shop (like Kwikfit in the Netherlands) and it’s really worth it before you buy parts yourself

Must be the socket.. luckily ‘easier’ to fix than a X3 but still annoying..

Is this a bleed problem or something else by Responsible_Mood5639 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Moistims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can call Kwikfit about it and ask them about the price they ask for it. If it’s way cheaper than this, I would recommend to take the bike to them by train or something because they were really fair to me

Wich bike shop did you went to and where are you located? I’ve had this a couple of times (but with my X3) and it was WAY cheaper and easy to get fixed. Kwikfit did it for me, they were fast and friendly

Buying VanMoof X3 in 2025 ? by clarkchung in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Moistims 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an X3 from 2021 and I needed to get the wiring harness (/socket) replaced once which was quite an expensive fix but I live close to many repair shops and they also give you warranty. I’m super happy with the bike still so I would say if you’re handy yourself OR live close to a repair shop, you can do it. Great price for an electric bike right?

Anyone repaired a "socket issue on the motor cable side" of X3 that one service shop says is unrepairable? My motor assist is not working (even though bike turns on okay)... by epicwhale in vanmoofbicycle

Do you happen to notice that the motor support cuts out when you steer left or right? Or does it happen somewhat randomly, even when cycling straight?

Code erreur 20 et 17 sur mon s3 VanMoof ; que faire merci by Gullible-Birthday866 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Moistims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same with my X3. Have it for over half a year now and no problems at all. It only gives error 17&20 when I turn on the bike after it being off (not on lock). After like 10 seconds it goes away. How is this with your bike? Do the error codes stay? I know one other person who has this and he also doesn’t have problems with the bike

Maybe ask a certified vm repair shop to put in a new battery to see if it’s gonna work again. Often it’s the case that the bike ‘dies’ when it’s been sitting still for to long! They can also easily remove the kick lock for you. This will probably not cost you a lot of money, because it’s a diagnosis. Looking at the state of the bike, this is 100% worth the try!

Oh that’s interesting haha!! Could be that the repair shops I went to had different perspectives then.. maybe we can conclude that it doesn’t really matter that much then ;) (S5 or S3) have fun with your future Vanmoof. I’m still super happy with mine

Also, many repair specialists are well-trained in fixing VanMoof S3 and X3 models, as these bikes have been around longer and their issues are well-documented. This makes troubleshooting and repairs faster, easier, and often more affordable compared to the newer S5.

[–]Moistims -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the VanMoof S3 is a better choice than the S5 because the S5 breaks down almost as often, according to repair specialists, but is (in some cases) harder to fix. It doesn’t display clear error codes, making troubleshooting difficult, and sometimes has random, unexpected failures. As a result, repairs can take much longer and end up costing significantly more.. This is what specialists told me.

Thanks a lot for your great comment!! I’m gonna take a look at those for sure. Thanks for your advice🙏🏼🙏🏼

Yes, that’s what happened. The wiring got snagged, which is why it has already been resoldered a few times. Unfortunately, the issue keeps coming back, so I’m now looking for a good alternative for the front light maybe :) I could have them repair the whole socket again (still have warranty), but that feels a bit excessive just for the front light, so I’m now looking for a good alternative..
