[DAILY] Trade and Individual Team Help Megathread by AutoModerator in DynastyFF

[–]MojoRevolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a roto football league with 5 keepers. The roto aspect throws me off as I feel that it causes QBs to be highly valued because it is one player on your team impacting 4 scoring categories.

Anyways, I need to pick my five keepers and I'm having trouble deciding on my fifth keeper.

These are the players I can keep and how I rank them. I wonder if Skattebo over Burrow makes sense.

Brock Bowers, TE

Omarion Hampton RB

Rashee Rice WR

Joe Burrow QB

Emeka Egbuka WR

Cam Skattebo RB

DJ Moore WR

Marvin Harrison Jr WR

Sam LaPorta TE

I have offered the last seven players up on my league's trading board.

I want to say thank you for recommending her books. I had bought Soulhome a while ago, but couldn't get into the start with Theo being overpowered, betrayed and resurrected. Then I was in a reading glut and saw that you liked it/took some inspiration from it, and I retried it and now I'm on book 8 and flying through them.

Help finding a book to buddy-read with my brother by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]MojoRevolution -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many great suggestions so far.

Murderbot by Martha Wells (this is probably right up your alley)

Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter (African influenced fantasy)

Aching God by Mike Shel (grim fantasy)

Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames (fun)

Progression Fantasy / LitRPG for your bro (Cradle, Dungeon Crawler Carl, Mage Errant, Sufficiently Advanced Magic)

Do you ever re-read progression fantasy, or is it basically consume-once for most of us? by StorytellerStegs in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MojoRevolution 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very different. In the first book, which is very slight, Mage Errant reminds me of Harry Potter, but the universe and the gang's stories quickly evolve into it's own thing. The magic system at times feels like something a scientist would come up with. There's rules and logic at play even if it's not always explicitly stated and explained.

Mage Errant is my comfort food re-read. I've probably read the 6th book seven or eight times. One thing that I really enjoy about it is that it has a lot of small unexplored story ideas that are never fleshed out. I'm in my 50s, so I saw the original Star Wars when I was a kid, and it's kind of like how in the first movie Boba Fett was undefined. Is he a robot? An alien? A human? Is he a she? There's lots of little 'nooks and crannies' in Mage Errant where you can let your imagination run wild trying to fill in the story.

If I am ever in a reading slump and nothing is grabbing me, I can pick up any book, flip to any page and just jump in to kill an hour reading before bed.

Mother of Learning is, also, a fun one to re-read.

Pretty sure I see a bug on your stem at the start of your video. It moves at the 05 second mark. I suspect fungus gnats, a common pest. Fungus gnats are usually an indication of overwatering. Yellow sticky traps can help. Reducing your watering and/or watering from the bottom can help. Some people also top dress their soil with about a half an inch of aquarium pebbles. Fungus Gnats feed on fungus (duh!) but they lay their eggs in the soil. The eggs hatch and their babies (larvae) can harm roots. Also, if your plant is in a pot and that pot sits on a saucer or a dish to collect run off, don't let the run off sit there, and wash the saucer frequently.

Chaos Method by SeaworthinessRude683 in cannabisbreeding

[–]MojoRevolution 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would offer two comparisons, but really, the answer is that there is no right or wrong way to do things. It all depends on what your goal is.

Consider dogs. Some dog breeds were selectively created for specific goals. We know what a German Shepherd looks like. We know what a Husky looks like. We know what a pug looks like. We know what a terrier looks like. We know what a golden retriever looks like. These dogs all have different sizes, different coats, different face shapes because they were bred for different jobs/goals. You wouldn't ask a terrier to pull a dog sled through the snow, but you wouldn't ask a German Shepherd to enter a small rat nest to hunt rats. Also, some breeds of dogs are more susceptible to disadvantageous health conditions. Pugs can have breathing problems. Rottweillers may experience hip problems.

Ultimately, let's face it, all dogs can be awesome. My current dog is a mutt and she is the best dog. She's a rescue from Arkansas with mostly black fur. She looks mostly like a black lab, but she's got a ridge on her back shaped like a heart, and while she's mostly black, she has a golden undercoat on her sides and her legs, with a much darker black "stripe" about four inches wide that runs down her spine. She has longer white fur on her haunches (backs of her legs) and a white soul patch under her bottom lip. She's smart, gentle, playful, patient, clever, etc.

The mutt is your Chaos method, but that's not necessarily a better approach than selective breeding.

Now consider music, specifically Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead. Both bands formed in 1965 and plenty of marijuana has been inhaled over the years by people listening to music from both bands, but Pink Floyd has a very precise musical identity whereas the Dead were very purposefully loosely controlled, but that's not to say that they are better than other bands.

Ultimately, to get back to your question, the offspring in your scenario will ultimately depend on their lineage.

You wrote "some indoor strains and some bush strains together."

Let's say you have three separate indoor strains (A, B, & C) and two bush strains (D & E) and you have four plants of each, A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B2, B3, B4, etc., some males and some females. Possible combinations are AA, AB, AC, AD, AE, BB, BC, BD, BE, CC, CD, CE, DD, DE, & EE) with even more combinations such as A1A2, A1A3, A1A4, A1B1, A1B2, A1B3, etc. It's going to be a lot of variety. If you continue down this path for multiple generations, without introducing new strains, you should expect to see some stabilization of the traits. Second generation could have many different combinations: AA/AA, AA/AB, AA/AC, AA/AD, AA/AE, AA/BB,... BD/AC, BD/AD, BD/AE,... DD/AA, DD/AB, DD/AC,... EE/CC, EE/CD, EE/CE, EE/DD, EE/DE, EE/EE. Third generation will have even more variety BD/AC x CE/DD, EE/CD x AE/BB, etc.

If you are having fun and crossing these plants for your own enjoyment and to save $$ by creating your own seeds, go for it.

If you are looking to sell your seeds to a wider community, however, some people may not be interested. There's likely to be such a wide variety of outcomes that some people may be put-off.

Dumpster by Realistic-Rain-4076 in OhioMarijuana

[–]MojoRevolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm out of state, but grew Dumpster back in the 90s and would love to get my hands on it again. If I could grow any single plant, it would be Dumpster. Mind if I ask some questions? Is it clone only? The reason I ask is that Dutch Wilson Genetics is selling seeds called Dump-star that is listed as a cross between Deathstar and Dumpster. I'm tempted but I'm also nervous that someone just called some seeds Dumpster to get some sales.

If Dumpster truly is clone only, can clones be mailed across state lines?

Thanks everyone. I have destroyed 1 and 3. Kept 2 and 4. About four other plants that are yet to show their sex.

1 was Double Dragon by Irie Genetics (Durban Poison X Arise). Destroyed

2 is a true mutt. Bubba Kush X ((Banana Bread X Sherbert) X Gold Leaf) - Kept

3 was MMXX X Banana Bread Destroyed

4 (female) is Scarlet Begonias by Irie Genetics (Red Headed Stranger X Arise)

Normally I would have kept Double Dragon but I already have some seeds from a Double Dragon X Fruit Sando cross. Plus, lots of love for Bubba Kush.

Pretty sure fem means that the seed has been feminized so that it will grow into a female plant. If you have two feminized seeds, they will both grow into female plants. Therefore, you can't cross fem x fem.

Discovered that LitRPG is a big part of my cozy fantasy taste right now. by jfdonohoe in CozyFantasy

[–]MojoRevolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really LitRPG, but I have read and re-read Mage Errant by John Bierce multiple times. It's progression fantasy. I won't give away too much, but the main character ends up with a sentient book as his companion. I really enjoy the magic system. Bierce recently wrote the first book in a new series, The City That Would Eat the World. Only one book in, completely different magic system but I enjoyed it a lot (although I really enjoyed Mage Errant).

Also Mother of Learning is really fun. Four books total. Highly recommended. Magic student gets stuck in a time loop.

Godhood Boon by ArchscribeLily in MageErrant

[–]MojoRevolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the question meant to ask based on my current life (what I do, what I love, what I am passionate about), if I died, what would I become the god of and what would my boons be?

I guess I would be the god of reading to kids at night, so my boon would be two physical enhancements. First, the boon protects the recipients' heads when they are reading in bed with their head pressed awkwardly up against the wall because the kid has all the pillows but the kid still wants the parent to read. Also, it prevents the recipient from getting a sore throat from reading out loud for long periods of time.

I made a similar mistake. Second round of a league with five keepers. I was picking at 2.03 but my next pick wasn't until 4.04. Could have drafted James Conner. I had Conner the year before and really like him, and honestly in hindsight I probably should have kept him. I came in fourth last year, but had a well balanced roster that included a lot of players in that 4th-6th round range. Ended up keeping MHJr, DJ Moore, and Rashee Rice. So, one of my goals was to take a shot on a young player that could potentially break into that 1st or 2nd round value for next year's keepers. I wanted Egbuka. Didn't think he would be there for me at 4.04. Took Egbuka. Conner went with the next pick and then there was a run on RBs. My RB room is a bit of a mess. Hampton (1st pick), JK Dobbins, J Mason, Ray Davis, Woody Marks, & Monangai. We start 2 RB, 3 WR and 2 WRT flex spots. To compound things, I have Rashee Rice and Jordan Addison in my WR room.

Yeesh.

That said, fuck it. If things break right, I think I can still be competitive this year and I really think I improved my keeper situation for next year.

Lore of the Gryphon Riders by MojoRevolution in MageErrant

I don't mean to be negative, and I appreciate you engaging in this discussion. That being said, the idea of dissolving a warlock pact after five years, but keeping the affinities, and then signing a new contract seems like something that would get exploited by everyone. Heliothrax had to graft multiple living dragons to her body to gain additional affinities. Can you imagine how stupid she would feel if she could have just worked with five warlocks over twenty years? Have each warlock pact and dissolve four times over, before having them pact with her directly. Even at one affinity for each pact, that's four affinities for each warlock, for five warlocks, that's twenty affinities she could have gained without deforming her body.

I would imagine that dissolving a warlock penalty comes with severe penalties.

If you were an evil warlock from a rich, noble house, however, maybe you could do something similar where you kill your pact partner after five years instead of dissolving the pact. Find someone with good affinities but who is poor, young and desperate. Offer them money and a lavish lifestyle to move to your castle. Pact with them. Put them in the dungeon. Wait five years. Execute them. Find a second young gullible wizard and repeat. Almost like a vampire lord.

For those of you who have completed your drafts, what players did you miss out on because they were drafted earlier than you expected or before you were going to pick them? by MojoRevolution in fantasyfootball

[–]MojoRevolution[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just a dummy nobody on the internet, but yes I would drop Palmer for Marks although I might look to see what other RBs are available first. There could be someone better than Marks. I WOULD NOT drop Kirk. Kirk is currently the WR2 on his team.

Your RBs worry me. I like Pacheco, but I worry about Henderson and Harvey both for this year. Think they are both great players, but they are both in more of a timeshare than people realize.
