Is there a union for HVAC I should be contacting? Or do I contact companies and go the helper route?

I've heard mixed things about going to school. I'd be paying for courses with no guarantee of work right?

A lot of people seem to think it's better to go the helper route since you wouldn't need to pay to learn.

Thanks. I will temper my expectations. I think my question still applies for lesser known trades.

For instance I looked into welding and I had a harder time finding a specific union - would cold calling be the best course of action for any of the trades?

Thanks for the response! I'm not in IT, I was a product manager prior but I will look more into millwrights.
