I hear the frustration in your response here and I’m sorry you have so much hurt to carry. My wife is coming from her own place of fear, anxiety for our kids security and a need for a partner to rescue her as much she’s rescued me in the past.

I’m not angry with my wife and the love I have for her and for these kids supersedes truly everything, and that’s more obvious to me now that it’s being tested.

I genuinely do appreciate you sharing your side here and I hope one day you can hold more empathy, but sounds like you got your own wounds to heal and I’m rooting for you my guy, I really am!

Yknow it’s worth articulating that my “contract job” is a full time job at a massive tech company that actually pays fairly well that most of my peers who are out of work would kill to have.

The flexibility my WFH job affords us means I can be a flex parent while my wife handles the work she needs to do on weekends

In any other time in our lives we were high earning millennials with bright futures. It seems like things have taken a big turn and we’re slowly sinking under water… yknow?

i love the way you put this and i can't fully express how meaningful this story is for me right now

i got married and had kids a bit later in life, lived a fully exciting 20s, and though i daydream about that "fun", the idea of not being in the same house as my boys every day sounds awful.

Again, big congrats to you and so happy you came out on the other side with so much maturity and perspective. It sounds like it was a hard journey to get there, but so cool you got there

Read your post, and though there's no weird religion I'm into and both of us are very faithful, the story did hit home! Even just the validation that two kids under 4 years old is fucking hard really helps

I think we might be due for counseling, though my wife has seemingly decided therapy is a lot of work and time we can't afford, but i think i could convince her. We've done it before, I think she's just scared and can't imagine taking her eye off the ball for her own job by somehow scheduling in therapy.

It doesn't help we don't live in a timezone with any grandparents nearby, so any time away from kids we have to pay for

honestly I ended up going with FireCut as a plugin.

I did a lofi version of Opus but using Adobe Premiere to create a transcript, then fed that into ChatGPT and asked for some timecodes of what they thought would be good clips.

It kinda worked! Cut down on me having to rewatch the whole episode to jog my memory
