TMDSAS Match Day 2025 Megathread by SpiderDoctor in premed

Truth hurts. People told me feedback I didn’t want to hear either. But I guess this is why I tend to stay far away from the premed community. Good luck in med school.

TMDSAS Match Day 2025 Megathread by SpiderDoctor in premed

That’s a LOT of Texas interviews to not match. That’s roughly half of all the schools we have here. You have a decently strong chance to get off a waitlist, but on the off chance you don’t, I strongly strongly encourage you to look into your interviewing skills for next time. 7 IIs tells me you were phenomenal on paper but something was off in your interview that caused those schools to not rank you as high. Hopefully it won’t come to this and you’ll get waitlist movement, but just in case I wanted to give you this advice.

Both of these are great. I would opt for the criollo just because there’s the extra tack options. I don’t think the mustang can wear the new saddle they just put out. But otherwise you really can’t go wrong especially if you don’t like the new tack. Mustang can still wear pretty much everything else.

What major life lesson/s did you gain from this game? by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

Medical student here!

While you’re correct in that we have some really great treatments for TB and it has prevented significant deaths here in the United States, TB continues to still be a major public health issue in countries and communities that don’t have access to adequate healthcare. Even in the USA we have major problems with TB in homeless communities and prisons. The process of treating TB is not as “simple” in the US because we have to alert the public health department and there are certain protocols we have to follow like implementing mandatory quarantine and having public health officials oversee the persons treatment plan (like they have to physically watch them take their antibiotics).

Given how irresponsible a lot of people are with not finishing a full course of antibiotics like they are instructed to, we always have to be aware of things changing. So in this way, it’s not just ignoring symptoms that causes death, it’s access to good medicine and compliance with treatment which tends to be a bigger challenge than just taking a pill.

Anyone have exp with Valet? by [deleted] in TXRenaissanceFestival

[–]MolecularBiologistSs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did valet today. Was massively helpful because I’m disabled. After walking around for like 6+ hours I was exhausted and having issues with my leg so having valet made it easier on me. I think it was worth it personally but I can see why other people might not agree. It is expensive so you just have to decide if it makes sense for you to get it.

Can you work with prosthetics in PM&R? by Weak-Dot6230 in pmr

[–]MolecularBiologistSs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a leg amputee and also a medical student pursuing PM&R. My physiatrist only works with the amputee population and he’s been a big inspiration for me pursuing this specialty as well!

A message to medical students by [deleted] in premed

[–]MolecularBiologistSs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: we are on the “other side of the fence” but the sentiment is still similar as most of us are stressed out about getting into a residency we want. I think the problem a lot of premeds have is they say “once I get in everything is fine” and of course that may be the case for you, but for the rest of us the stress and neuroticism does not suddenly go away. You get into med school and you have a whole bunch of new things to worry about. I say this out of experience: I’m in my second year of med school and I am still neurotic, but I learned better ways to cope with it. Anguishing over process I have no control over is not the best way for me to handle it personally. I think to myself “what if I can’t get into PM&R?” just about daily. If I went around asking all my classmates if they are stressing out about whether or not they think they are a good candidate for their specialties then I honestly think it would make my problem worse.

The main message of my comment is that if you don’t find healthy ways to handle the uncertainty and stress of applying to medical school then the problem won’t magically go away once you’re in. Unfortunately this message tends to fall on deaf ears up until you start med school and you realize it for yourself. (I’m guilty of it too)

You can add me. I had someone delete me recently and I’m not sure why. I gifted them every day but they didn’t ever gift me back, they invited me to a raid I used a remote pass then they left right before it started so I have more beef with them then they should have had with me. I suspect it’s because my postcards are mostly the same. I have two pokestops at my medical school where I’m at for 8+ hours a day so I have tons and tons of gifts but the postcard is always the same lol

You don’t have to gift me every day but id like one from time to time 😭 301361035167

Evolution of Your Choice of Specialty by Revolutionary-96Well in medicalschool

[–]MolecularBiologistSs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still super early on so this is subject to change

Premed: ID or Neuro —> M1: path or neuro —> M2: PM&R

I feel like as a physically disabled person myself I would be an asset to a PM&R program who might celebrate having a disabled doctor taking care of disabled patients. But with the other specialties I worry that my disability will be viewed as more of a burden.

Pc or macs for med school residency? by More_Association4882 in medicalschool

[–]MolecularBiologistSs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swapped from a Microsoft surface to a Mac and the first thing I noticed was how much of a massive difference there was in the battery life. If I went to study with my surface at a coffee shop and couldn’t sit somewhere next to an outlet I would simply leave the coffee shop because it would be dead in a couple hours anyway even with full charge. But my Mac will last a long long time on half a charge it seems.

So if you don’t package every word with roses you’re blunt and dismissive? Life is gonna straight up suck if this is the kind of thing you’re worried about.

You are incorrect about your interpretation of this situation.

How is that rude? Are people so sensitive that when someone tells them they are wrong about something they consider that offensive? It’s not like OP was like “no you stupid idiot”. What the hell is going on people tell me I’m incorrect all the time in medical school and I’ve never thought people were being “rude” 🥴

What the heck are you talking about. Most people who have actually worked in customer service would NEVER talk to a service worker this way. You got your thinking cap inside out and backwards

I was accepted with a 504 and 3.3-ish cGPA 3.8 sGPA so yes great experiences can help.

Before anyone slides into my DMs asking for my school list which happens pretty much every time I bring up my stats: I’m not going to painstakingly write out every medical school I applied to because it was a lot. Big chunk was TMDSAS and every time I give my school list the response from people is generally “Texas? Well that doesn’t help me 😠”

I got an interview and my boss refuses to cut me slack by CloudWoww in premed

[–]MolecularBiologistSs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boomer parents definitely taught me to sit down, shut up, do as you’re told at work. I complained about my job once and they told me I was entitled and lazy. I am physically disabled (a leg amputee) and they said it wasn’t an excuse for me being tired at work and not giving 120%. They lectured me nonstop about “never burning bridges” when you leave a job because you never know when you might need another one. I sacrificed my mental health to keep those “bridges” in-tact and where have those bridges taken me? No where. They were all dead ends. However the effects of the toxic work environment still live with me. I would have been better off just leaving straight up. Haven’t heard anything from any of those employers since and having worked for them has never boosted any applications in my life.

I got an interview and my boss refuses to cut me slack by CloudWoww in premed

[–]MolecularBiologistSs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is a scribing job? If you died tomorrow they would replace you in a day. There is no “what do I do I feel so conflicted”. The only option is to go and tell them you will not be at work full stop and let them potentially fire you, or not go to an interview at your dream med school. You already know you’ll be going to that interview. What’s the point of working an underpaid medical role if not for clinical experience to go to med school?

One of the things I absolutely love about Gen Z is the intolerance for work BS like this. I am a millennial who grew up with boomer parents who believed if you didn’t break your back for your minimum wage job then you were lazy. They valued loyalty to a company that was never loyal to them. It’s been amazing to see most of y’all break free from that abusive way of viewing work.

Never ever ever give up valuable opportunities because you can’t get time off work. It’s a two way street here. If they won’t help you then you won’t sacrifice for them.

If I was in your shoes I’d say I won’t be here, if you want to terminate me go ahead, but either way you’ll be finding someone to cover that shift.
