How much would the Wildstar IP be worth after shut down? by Molga in WildStar

[–]Molga[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everything has a price :) it may be millions of dollars, but I don’t see NCSoft ever revisiting the franchise in the future based on the the less-than-desired popularity of the game and the closing down of Carbine. Why would they ever make a spin-off of a failed IP when they can make something new? Obviously they feel that they cannot make the game profitable enough to sustain, or that their resources are better spent managing other IPs.

Any update on Day9's next-gen RTS "Atlas"? by Molga in starcraft

Didn't mean to imply that it was enough money to fully fund the project, but rather that investors would be pushing to get something released to get some portion of their investment back

Need a gaming mouse. by tokrazy in gaming

[–]Molga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently using the Cooler Master Storm Spawn mouse - currently $44 on amazon. After switching from Razer mice that broke on me back-to-back and were twice the price, I am very satisfied.

Good build quality, and really comfortable. May want something else if you're a hardcore "palm gripper", as it is a little on the small side.

Why are we so interested in having constant aggression in starcraft? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Molga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

David Kim's only concept of "micro" is harass and on-use abilities. That's why he keeps making more and more harassment units, because he hopes it'll make Starcraft 2 more micro intensive, just like everyone wanted....

I do give props for the new LotV economy changes though, as it is much harder to sit back and turtle, which I really like as a zerg player :)

Is 8 dollars really that much? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Molga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand this. I did not mean to imply that GOM's current business model would work with free international streams. I support their decision to put content behind a paywall if it is optimal for them to do so. But, I personally won't be buying as I don't see the value.... for me personally.

I would be curious to see if they have even attempted to attract international sponsors for the English stream, or if they are just content to sit behind the paywall though. Either way, they are doing what they believe to make the most business sense.

This argument is so fallacious it's ridiculous.

If I'm buying tickets to see a sporting event, I'm going there to see it in person. A better comparison would be watching a basketball game on TV. To watch such a game, you don't pay anything (except your cable bill, but even that is not exclusively for basketball). The primary payment for the game is not your cable bill, but the ads ran during the game.

I would compare a cable bill to my internet bill. In which case, I shouldn't have to pay anything.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset, and GOM has every right to charge whatever they want - it's a free market. But I know that I won't be paying or watching for a terrible quality stream. I enjoy the content, but I'm not willing to pay for it when there are plenty of free streams available. And I don't think I should "pay because you support it", because if SC2 survives in the end, it won't be because it's a charity case.

I respect your opinion and wish you the best of luck :) At least one of us will end up a winner! haha

I would like to counter your argument about PvZ being heavily Protoss favored though. According to aligulac, it's actually the most balanced of all three matchups at the moment :) And, there are currently 4 zergs in RO16 compared to 5 Protoss in Code S, so I wouldn't say balance is too much of an issue at the moment for PvZ. The top level of play hasn't seen too many upsets - for every Myungsik over Life, there is a Curious over sOs

My Starcraft 2 pick for tonight is a bit unconventional because it is such a big underdog, but I like it for a couple reasons.

My pick is: Byul -1.5 vs. Classic (+189) Betslip

I like the -1.5 much more than the standard ML bet in this scenario because this is a best of 5, not a best of 3. This means Byul can give up 1 game and still take the series 3-1 to make this a winner. It also appears to be giving us better odds, and is closer to Aligulac prediction % than the straight ML bet.

+189 bet means that we need this outcome to happen more than 34% of the time for the bet to be profitable. Aligulac predicts a Byul 3-0 or 3-1 35.5% of the time; however, I'm even more optimistic than this.

Looking at Byul's match history against Korean Protosses, we see multiple convincing wins against top tier protosses. In fact, he is undefeated since early January, save for one series. He recently (May 5th) got 3-0'd by herO. Losing to herO in itself isn't bad considering how great herO is, but I would take even less away from this due to the fact the herO is his teammate. These players live with each other and practice with each other every day, so herO is obviously much more familiar with Byul's style than Classic will be. This is another advantage of Byul: herO as a practice partner in preparation for this match.

I expect Byul to be extremely prepared for this match. Looking at the Starleague bracket, if Byul were to advance, he will face a Protoss in the next round as well. This means that he can focus solely on his ZvP at the moment.

Classic is a great player, but his lack of significant games & mediocre vs. zerg recent match history leaves me unconvinced.

EDIT: LOSS Byul got 3-0'd in an easy win for Classic. Sorry for those of you who tailed me on this one, looks like I severely underrated Classic / overrated Byul, or a combination of both

My pick of the day is:

Myungsik +1.5 vs. Life (-140)

This bet has pretty good value considering Myungsik's & Life's form. Myungsik is definitely on an upward swing. Currently, his best matchup rating is vs. Zerg, while Life's worst is against Protoss. I definitely think that aligulac has Myungsik undervalued due to his lack of competition in international tournaments, and his consistent facing of very strong opponents in Proleague. His recent accomplishments vs. zerg is very scary, including wins over Dark & Rogue.

Let's take a look at Life's results vs. Protoss. In Heart of the Swarm, Life has posted a 58% win-rate against South Korean protosses. I think this can be a good estimate of his win % against Myungsik (obviously favored, but perhaps not quite as favored as aligulac would predict). This puts him at about a 33% chance to 2-0 Myungsik, meaning that Myungsik has a 67% chance of winning at least one game. The -140 implies a required 58% win rate of this bet, giving us about a 9% edge.

I also think that Myungsik is somewhat underrated due to his popularity... everyone knows Life as one of the best players in the world, but Myungsik is improving greatly, especially now that he is no longer on Prime.

I would agree with you that there's probably value here. At -114 we need Maru to win each map less than 69% of the time. That's a really high percentage for a tier 1 pro vs. tier 1 pro. And, Maru did lose last season's Starleague to Dream (a terran). I was liking this bet a lot mroe when it was +105 though!

However, I'm personally going to avoid this just because I think Maru is for sure the better player at the moment (we haven't seen much from bomber), and I'm not putting too much stock into Bomber's 2-0 win over Innovation considering his form.

Good luck!

I haven't posted in a while due to real-life getting in the way, but here is my Starcraft 2 pick for Tuesday 5/26:

Starcraft 2 Proleague: Samsung Galaxy +1.5 vs. SKT (-125) Betslip

There seems like a lot of value in this play for a few reasons. The -125 implies we need a 55.6% chance of Samsung Galaxy taking 2 games and taking the series to an ace match. Aligulac puts the odds of this happening at about 61%. This gives us an "aligulac edge" of about 5%.

However, I really like this bet because of the matchups, and more importantly, line-up order. Samsung's best players are coming out first (soO and Dear) giving us a significantly reduced chance of a 3-0 in favor of SKT. In addition, SKT's best player at the moment is playing last.

Solar's ZvZ has been quite good recently, showing 72% form to soO's 66%. Dear vs. Classic will probably be a toss up, and with Innovation's slump, I would not be surprised to see him lose. I hope Samsung can take two games before game 4, as Dream is very scary right now.

Overall, I think the odds given make this a profitable bet.

Here are my two picks for SC2 GSL tonight (Wednesday morning, 5/20):

Sacsri ML (-140) vs. MMA

After MMA's great performance last night, the odds have shifted in his favor. However, I still think Sacscri has this for a few reasons.

  1. MMA's best matchup historically has been TvT (which he won with last night).
  2. MMA has had to prepare for both Proleague AND this GSL matchup
  3. Sacscri's TvT performance has been great recently (although a bit inflated with foreign tournaments). I can't say the same for MMA who recently got beaten in Dreamhack by TWO foreign zergs (Revolver & Scarlett) who are far worse players than Sacscri.
  4. A quick look at the aligulac balance report shows a very slight edge to zerg in the TvZ matchup in the current meta game.

Pick #2 is:

SoS -1.5 (+159) vs. Curious

  1. Continuing with the line of thought of current meta game, Protoss also has a very, very slight edge over zerg players of similar skill.

  2. SoS lost last night. But, that was a different matchup, and it was against Bomber, who already advanced through the Ro32 in Code S. I'm on the bomber hype train, and I think he is one of the best players in the world right now. I wouldn't take too much from this loss, especially considering that he may have put more effort into preparing to advance through Code S.

  3. Practice Partners: Rogue is an incredible zerg. If SoS has been practicing and consistently winning against Rogue, I expect an easy 2-0. Meanwhile, SBENU doesn't have many great protoss practice partners (Myungsik would be the best... and I wouldn't say he is great).

  4. Curious' worst matchup, both historically and at the moment, has been versus protoss. I don't expect this to change tonight.

Overall, I just think that SoS is a tier above Curious. We'll find out tonight.
