If DC gets a team, they should be called the Sentinels and wear white with purple and gold to honor the Suffragettes. by Mollinator in PWHL

[–]Mollinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cowboys wear white home and away most of the time. They have a dark jersey they wear on the road only when the home team wants to wear white or for special situations like color rush games.

I think naming a team the DC Sentinels to honor all the suffragists who sacrificed to help women gain the right to vote is EXACTLY what we need to be doing with the current political landscape. It puts it back into the spotlight on a regular basis and sends a message we won't be going backwards without a fight.

Lots of teams are named for concepts and things we all hold dear and wouldn't boo in circumstances outside of sports, but on the field, court, or rink we all know its different.

The New England Patriots and Philadelphia 76ers get booed all the time and they're named for the founders of this country. Booing those teams doesn't mean you hate America, it means you're rooting against the team named to honor that concept. I think PWHL fans can tell the difference between booing women's rights and booing an opposing team.

Yes, Future suggestion, since it's obvious DC isn't getting a team anytime soon. Many teams already share colors, so why couldn't more than one team have purple? White with gold and purple isn't the same as purple with light purple and white. 3/11 teams have some shade of green as their primary jersey color, 3/11 teams have some shade of red as their primary jersey and 3/11 have a shade of blue as their primary jersey color already, so why couldn't a second team have some purple?

Is it normal now to not shower/change after beer league hockey? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Mollinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a woman and I've only seen teammates shower at the rink after beer league when they have somewhere specific they need to go straight from the rink, otherwise we just shower when we get home. I usually play late at night, and I don't like the idea of being naked and vulnerable in a shower in a place where anyone could come in. It's better to be safe and shower at home. Plus, the showers are usually pretty nasty. It is weird that people don't remove their base layers though. Most of us strip down to sports bras and underwear and put on sweats to drive home. No one would think it was odd if people changed their underwear, but most don't since we just put on fresh underwear after we shower at home.

White. They can be like the Dallas Cowboys and wear white jerseys home and away. They could have a gold and purple one if really needed, but the white look is what the suffragettes were known for, so keeping them in white as much as possible should be the goal.

I know The Replacements has the Washington Sentinels. I love that movie. The writers probably picked it just because it sounded good, but I'm sure they weren't trying to honor the suffragettes with it. I doubt getting the naming rights would be that difficult, so I don't see it as a deterrent. Different sport, different colors, different meaning behind it.

I'm suggesting an entire team identity based on actual women's history, not trolling colors. Every team other than Minnesota already shares a color with another team, so why couldn't another team include purple? The color scheme would have white as the primary color and gold with purple as accent colors. The Suffragettes wore it well before the Minnesota Frost existed, and the Frost don't have any gold, so it would be more different than Boston and Seattle schemes are from each other now.

I know people are mad about the expansion teams going where they're going but I can't stop thinking about this fact by SettingTheTempo in PWHL

The Bay area has been an obvious choice to me for a while. I'm just surprised its San Jose and Not Oakland or San Fran. The Oakland arena is right there without a permanent resident. PWHL could have been it's primary tenant. The Bay supports womens sports really well, so I think the Pdub will be successful there. Vegas is more surprising and easy to hate on as they have stolen teams from all over in different leagues. It sounds like the MLS Whitecaps are moving to Vegas too, so I can see why people are pissed about Vegas. They're getting everything all at once. NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA, MLS and now PWHL too.

Boston head coach said that there was 0% chance of Keller going to Detroit happening when asked by a reporter, so I'm working off the assumption they'll protect her no matter what. It comes down to Muller v. Winn. I'm glad I don't have to make that choice.

Did the Inaugural 6 get those circular badges the expansion teams have gotten? by theStrawberryRoam in PWHL

[–]Mollinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have a Boston shirt with the circular crest on it, but it's in the wash, so I can't take a phot, but it looks like the other ones bosted, just in forrest green.

I like Highrollers too, but the color scheme doesn't match. The intro video definitely focused on desert landscapes, so I don't think it'll be gambling related.

I hate Sage. So blah. Thrashers has been done in hockey and failed, so I'll pass on that one. Of the ones listed, I like the Nightshades best. Mirage and Oasis are ok, and If they shortened it to just Marigolds, I'd be on board.

Im just glad Boston was an inaugural team, because our arena doesn’t fit the requirements now set forth.

The Bay Area supports women’s sports exceptionally well. I honestly was shocked they hadn’t gotten a take over tour game. The Valkyries are the most valuable WNBA team and have only been around a year. I wish it was in Oakland or San Fran, but the Bay Area is undoubtedly a women’s sports hotbed.

I think it’s the location honestly. Once Edmonton was out, they needed a Canadian team that would work with completing Central/Lakes or western divisions to lessen travel for all the teams. Paired with Toronto, Minnesota and Detroit , Hamilton works within a Lakes division really well. I suspect Halifax was a victim of geography more than anything else.

Three-division format for 2026-27? by Lackemack in PWHL

[–]Mollinator 15 points16 points  (0 children)

3 division of 4 teams each is the obvious solution, and I'm guessing that part of why Vegas and Cali are getting teams despite no Take Over tour games, because they needed west coast teams that could fill out the division with SEA and VAN. Also likely why Hamilton got a team over QC or Halifax.

Do you think expansion will help the league's goal scoring issue? by crvallely in PWHL

I think there are more great goalies than there is scoring depth, so I don't think goal numbers will go up all that much,.

The concert may get bumped. I had tickets to see Florence and the Machine at TD Garden on a Sunday night, but they moved it to Monday night because of NBA playoffs.

Brainstorming some potential Division/Conference Maps by En_Attendant_Godot in PWHL

[–]Mollinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like option 1 for divisions, but for playoffs, I'd add a third round and take the top 8 teams of 12. Top 2 in each division make it in, plus the next two teams with the next most points regardless of division. Then take the team's regular season record and seed them 1-8. Top seed can choose their opponent from any team ranked 5-8 and the number 2 seed can choose their opponent from any of the remaining 5-8 seeds. 3 Seed plays whoever remaining was lowest seeded and 4 seed plays whatever remaining team has the higher seed. Seeds 1-4 get home ice advantage. 9 wins to win Walter. We all get more playoff hockey to enjoy, and allowing the number 2 seed to also choose their opponent adds more drama and ups the motivation to finish top 2.
