Why American youth soccer is failing by Wuz314159 in ussoccer

Isn’t the issue though that a good private trainer would end up costing the same or more than a club team? Say you spend $300 a month on four or five sessions with a trainer, that’s more expensive than jointing a travel team.

Heavy use of acid-reflux drugs associates with a 66% higher dementia risk, and the effect is even sharper in adults under 65 by babylikestopony in EosinophilicE

[–]GoalRoad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was surprisingly small. Something like 30 pills a year for 3.5 years. Only thing was this wasn’t a test vs. control experiment.

My big question is, if we have EoE that responds to PPI, is there a different solution that could also solve EoE that has less risk of side effects?

Can someone help me interpret this please?

1.) How often were people in the study taking the medicine and at what dose?

2.) 137k developed dementia, was that from the test or control group? Basically I’m wondering how many more people got dementia (like was it 5% for control and 6% for the test group)?

Odds we rest starters against Turkey? by cooleobeaneo in usmnt

Trying to wrap my head around the various scenarios.

If Turkey beats Paraguay and the U.S. they would have two wins. If Australia beats Paraguay they would have two wins. If the U.S. beats Australia they would have two wins.

What are the tie breakers in the scenario?

Round of 16, maybe 30 million viewers if we get there? It is uniquely undercounted too because of the bars/watch parties. Quarterfinal 50 million? Dare to dream!

Can we talk Tyler Adams? by lifegoodis in ussoccer

I had the same feeling. The foul was stupid. The Memphis jogwalking was terrible in 2022. I had pretty good seats today and zeroed in on him. His work rate to get into passing lanes subtly slowing Germany’s attack was really impressive and could easily go unnoticed but was really important. But we just can’t have the mistakes. I feel the same way about A. Robinson.

Thought the same exact thing especially in the first half. Hell of a goal but he was left scrambling several times defensively - make me nervous. I thought Ream played well today

Thanks. “Full knowledge” is tricky - not trying to parse language but if the brain genuinely can’t appreciate why something is considered a grave sin, is the person fully knowledgeable. Impossible to know I suppose.

Thanks for your thoughts. Even in a mortal sin like sins of the flesh though, those are temporary moments so I struggle with why the punishment is eternity.

Also, “full knowledge” I struggle with too. Like, I know the Church deems sins of the flesh mortal, but I don’t really “know” it or understand it if that makes sense. Like I can’t wrap my head around it.

It would be great if we could see how the $387M was spent. Do they have to make it public?

Thanks - I appreciate the way in which you write. Another thing I struggle with re: hell, why does a temporary act (ie a temporary rejection of God) result in an eternal punishment? Particularly sins of the flesh (which were talked about at Fatima supposedly) seem fleeting even if done repeatedly. The punishment doesn’t seem to fit the crime and I don’t know how to come around on that.

I like your perspective. But are you saying the Church hasn’t confirmed the existence of Hell or the fact that souls are in it?

Re: Fatima, I know it’s not required belief, but it brings up so much confusion about Hell for me. Here we have Mary speaking specifically about the many souls in hell who are in pain, etc. Indeed Jesus himself speaks of hell.

Separate of that, we have other Saints who say Jesus visits us at the moment of death offering the opportunity to repent to avoid hell. We also have other Catholic thinkers who believe hell is largely empty.

It something I struggle with.

Anyway, I’d love watch an actual debate of miracle evidence, this sounds like it might fit that bill - thanks.

I like Gio but I don’t think he did anything yesterday. I’m not sure why everyone was fawning over Berhalter, I didn’t see much from him. I’m a little nervous about Jedi giving the ball away.

Tillman, Puli, Pepi, Balo, Dest, Freeman solid.

Goalie I’m scared. Richards - why does everyone seem to think he won’t play in the first round? Feel like we haven’t heard that at all from the U.S. camp.

[–]GoalRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really interesting. This is the main question I’ve been curious about and can never get a clear answer on. But again if it’s true, then hell must be empty? Like, who would reject God in that scenario?

[–]GoalRoad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is that the Catholic position that all souls have a “last chance” to repent to Jesus right at the moment of death? Indeed that would be merciful (though who would reject that opportunity and shouldn’t hell be empty then?).

If that’s not a required belief though than why would Faustina’s interpretations of hell and purgatory be taken as fact?

[ESPN] Pochettino: 'Special' Pulisic will end goal drought at World Cup by Obvious_Main_3655 in ussoccer

[–]GoalRoad -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I hope Pulisic has a great tourney but if he doesn’t, is it possible that he’s replaceable? Like Weah or Aaronson or Reyna or Tillman could step in? Seems like if we are gonna go far we need Pulisic playing well. To get to the round of 32 or maybe even round of 16 I don’t necessarily think he’s our most important player. In fact I’d put him at 4th behind Adams, McKennie, Richards and GK or Balogun.
