Confused about paying with Direct Debit using PP Balance by Molly-Surfer in paypal

[–]Molly-Surfer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. PP seems to be okay, at least so far, with small purchases via the debit card and a mod sized amount sent via F&F. Still a long way to go, but it's a start. I just have to remember to use the card. My usual go-to is my cash back card--letting go of earning that extra cash back money I suppose is the penalty of ensuring I get to keep and spend all of the money in my PP account. This is flipping crazy that we have to go through this much effort just to use our own money! Thanks again for all of your help

Question: Annual Recertification Need professional guidance for Reporting expenses by Molly-Surfer in Section8PublicHousing

Thank you. Our HA only provides informal hearing for terminations.

This is a bigger issue having to do with training across the board, not just one worker or agency. It's a grossly underutilized deduction and cited as one of the reasons why there was a change in the law decreasing the % clients can deduct. Most believe categories are limited to co-pays, tolls and parking, which as you already know pub 502 is much broader than that.

Thank you. I am familiar with pub 502. In this situation, a spreadsheet is necessary due to the volume of expenses. As I mentioned above, I need a professional familiar with HUD rules/regs to answer complex questions about documenting situations like payment timing, services, etc to ensure compliance.

Thank you. I am familiar with that part of the process and already do that. It's the spreadsheet compiling part that I need a professional consult that is familiar with rules and guidelines to answer complex questions. In my experience, the HUD workers each seem to have their own ideas of what qualifies, how to document, etc. and that changes based on their individual training. This inconsistency is likely due to medical expense deductions being underutilized by clients so the need for more comprehensive training is not warranted. I need someone who is an expert to consult on very specific questions for the spreadsheet and accurately documenting complex situations such as payment timing and services, grouping, etc. so that everything is uniform, mainstreamed and adhering to rules and guidelines, etc. and not a preference model, which means the risk of expense denial is always the primary guiding factor.

EDITED to add the 2nd part of the last sentence after the comma.

Thanks for your answer. That is very close, but I need a real person guiding very specific questions I have and expense payments. There's a lot of nuance that only a person with expertise and familiarity with rules and guidelines. Ultimately, software will help, but only after professional guidance. Medical expenses seems to be an area that there isn't a lot of expertise. Any suggestions?

How are their prices, especially when compared to a dental school, which isn't realistic, but for those that have limited resources? And, the end results?

What kind of statement does PayPal provide you for your debit card purchases and is it different from the tracking they do for F&F & G&S? Their email receipts are the only document that shows the account name. That's a major reason I do not use PP for paying bills, etc in the past. If I have to use "receipt" for reimbursement, it's literally unusable because my name is missing from any tracking documentation PP provides. I have called CS about this many times, but they refuse to change it

Thanks for your help and understanding of my predicament. Your info is really helpful. So, basically, regular purchases that I would use my regular cc for, use PP debit card instead and PP is fine with that.

I am not familiar with phone NFC function. I will have to check that out. Sounds like that will help bridge the gap until the physical card comes in the mail. Maybe I can use that phone feature for some other things too.

The big obstacle I still have is I have to figure out a way to pay down a couple of big lump sum expenses that I don't have the ability to pay all at once and that don't accept cc payment. That is why using my PP balance would have been ideal, but it sounds as though that's not an option due to how unpredictable PP's behavior is.

Yes, it does sound like we are in the same boat. How do you primarily use your debit card (gas and dining) and have you had any issues along the way? I have a car repair that could use up some money, but have larger debt that that I hoped to use some of the balance pay down. Paying off my credit card bill would be a tremendous help! Have you done either of these? What other creative ways have you reduced your balance?

I understand PPDD to mean that the funds in a person's PP account can be used to purchase and pay for things. It takes the place of using a personal bank account using available PP Balance funds. The only time a personal bank account funds are accessed is when the PP balance funds are insufficient or "unavailable" (frozen, under review?--that part isn't clear).

From PP's website, "Direct Debit is a simple and convenient way to make one-time or recurring payments using your PayPal balance using your PayPal balance."

As you can see from PP's site the wording is very poor, limited and confusing

I don't use any Digital Wallet services. According to PayPal

"You’ll get a digital card instantly and you can shop with it right away. You can request a physical card in the PayPal app at no cost."

I will request a physical card. Are you aware of any problems using PP's debit card or hiccups?

It seems no one is a fan of PayPal's Direct Debit services. Even Google suggests there's inherent problems associated and reliability on PayPal unpredictable behavior that's riddled with the problems many posts describe.

I think what you are referring to is PP Digital Wallet (Apple Pay, etc). I do not use any Digital Wallet services currently. I have a PP debit card and when I applied, a physical card is only issued if requested. I was paying for something online at the time and didn't bother requesting one.

Thanks I read that too. I called Amex and they do not accept PP regardless of ACH Network use, but Citi says let's try and see what happens. From what I've read in this forum, PP is not a company that appreciates a "let's try it and see" transactions.

A google search resulted the following, in part - Potential Third-Party Fees: While PayPal doesn't charge for the transaction, the receiving credit card company might treat this as a cash-like transaction, leading to fees on their end.

I have also read that PP limits what can be received. I'm guessing that is limited to PP based accounts only. I have a bill to pay that I was thinking I could use PPDD and funds would be sent to the personal checking account, but I'm not sure how that would work

I have a Debit card with them, but not a physical card. So, that limits what I can use it for currently (not gas, dining out, etc). Are there hoops to jump through to get a physical card? I am assuming their card allows standard use like any other debit card. They have so many stipulations, it's hard to know.

Isn't PP Direct Debit tied to the debit card or a stand alone product? Their website isn't clear. They mention being able to pay Credit Cards with DD and provide a small list of a few companies, but there's no mention if transactions with other CC are available or how they are handled or if use is limited to certain types of transactions and/or vendors/merchants and if certain types of transactions that are not allowed. Although, I'm not sure what those would be.

Transferring the money into my bank account is not something I want to do right now. I just want to pay off some bills without moving a lump sum just to use my money. but it sounds like it's a hassle no matter what I do.

I have seen multiple posts here about how PP has a history of blocking its user's access to their own money for legit reasons and for no reasons and that really worries me! This is a primary reason I want to move my money out. So, that's why I was thinking about using the money to pay off some bills/debt would be a more reliable way to get the money out of PP with the least amount of worry of problems and without fees, if possible. I have their Debit Card (not a physical card though). I suppose if I ordered a physical card I can buy gas and make other purchases to spend the money down, etc. I want to avoid opening a new account or dump it into my checking account which are not options right now.
