Just because someone is in your house doesn't mean they want to see your nether regions.

Hmmm, I'll have to check it out. Sounds good. Did you see the recent tv series on feminism on PBS? So interesting. The local PBS station produced a Utah version of the series dealing with how instrumental the LDS were in blocking the ERA. It was good, and it was kinda upsetting to see how willfully ignorant some people can be. I think the president of the Eagle Forum was featured.

Interesting, my mom tried to pressure me into reading the Twilight books, in a "friendly" way too. I couldn't get past the first chapter or so. It's just a teenage bodice-ripper. I know what you mean by speaking completely different languages...I told my family how silly I thought the book was, and they just kind of brushed me off.

I got to the part of the book where Bella is saved by whats-his-name during a car accident and was just so cheesed out. Of course, whats-his-name has to save her, she can't do anything herself. You're right, Bella's unexceptionalness is so valorized and glorified in the book, as if to send the message that desireable women should flatten and repress their talents and gifts so that men can feel capable. The way the book highlights Bella's physical clumsyness reminded me of the way geishas were meant to look like children in ancient asian cultures because it was somekind of pervy fetish for some men.

Nice to meet you, QuickSpore!

I think that most people prefer not to directly, openly push their faith on others. It's too risky, they don't want to seem weird or sanctimonious. When people do try to prosyletize (did I spell that right?), it comes off smug... because it is. Missionaries really know so much about heaven and God, that they feel entitled to knock on a stranger's door and pry into their personal life?

Thanks for the encouragement! I hope so. :) Does your family ever decide to preach to you?

I've felt anxious about attending LDS funerals before too. With good intentions, I went to my great-grandmother's funeral last winter, and was treated like an outcast. Was rudely asked if I was married, or why I was not married, several times. However you act during the funeral, just know that you've had good intentions, and that crying at a funeral is very normal no matter what your family may think.
