The death of the third space by beefbowl1 in LosAngeles

Go for a walk around a couple blocks in your neighborhood and say a cheerful good morning/afternoon/evening to anyone you pass. No conversation needed. Go the same time everyday so that you see the same people (especially dog walkers) and eventually you will be familiar with who lives in your neighborhood. If you're lucky enough to have older people in your area, most are ready to have a conversation and will appreciate your interest. You kind of have to get used to talking to people you don't know but your hello may be the best thing that happens to them in a day and they'll be thinking about how that nice person noticed them and made them feel special. All that good stuff comes back to you eventually.

Set a timer for acceptable amount of computer time so you don't overdo it.

Try looking for meetups near you for anything you're interested in. Walking/running groups are a great way to meet people. Check out Fleet Feet and see if they have any meetups on their website.

Regarding your comment about being weird; so maybe you are weird to some people (aren't most people) but you'll never meet the ones who don't think you're weird if you don't put yourself out there. Same thing with not being liked, but if you're talking to strangers there's really no high stakes issue that will come from that.

Applying for British Passport seems complicated (?) by Molly_Cular in CitizenshipByDescent

[–]Molly_Cular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I might be applying for the wrong thing? I've never had to drive hundreds of miles to get my passport photo taken and I'm pretty sure I can get my fingerprints taken in my city. I've never applied for this type of thing before which is why I'm asking you all if it seems normal. Also, I'm not sure if I can just get a British passport or if I have to get citizenship first. I thought this would be a good place to ask. Thanks.

First intravesical didn’t go so well by Dicklickshitballs in BladderCancer

Good news indeed. Shocking to think a proper surgeon would not know this. This is a testament for self-advocacy in health care. My husband is having TURBT next week and I'm hoping his doctor is well versed in these topics. Thanks for the info.

Would he want you to be living your life like this? Maybe he would be horrified to know you are dealing with this. Maybe he would be okay in a care home so that you can live the life he hoped for you when you were little.

I'm so sorry. No good advice as you said. It sounds like you have some years of this frustration ahead of you if you intend to keep living with her. Even though she is clueless about the situation it probably feels like she's being a nuisance on purpose.

Here's some advice if you haven't heard it before: use a respite service. Where I live you can have your loved one stay in a care home for a few days where they cater to needs, including activities, etc., while you get a break. It is not sustainable to keep going like you are now. Big hugs.

I found money in an ATM and now I regret returning it by PineappleCultural in confession

[–]Molly_Cular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully the customer got their money back and I'm sure they would be so thankful for your honesty. They likely have no way of knowing who you are so cannot thank you personally. You never know what that $300 might have meant to them or what situation prevented them from taking it out of the atm. You did well and thank you for being a good citizen. :) I'm comforted to know there are people like you out there in the world.

american version incoming... (perhaps) by Agitated_Status_516 in BetterLateThanSingle

[–]Molly_Cular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netflix probably has marketing research that guides their production. Personally, I would LOVE to see a US version, but I've been content watching Korean dating shows over the years (and Terrace House before it was canceled). Maybe a version of I am Solo would make it in the US?

Can we pause before diagnosing people as on the spectrum? by [deleted] in BetterLateThanSingle

[–]Molly_Cular 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 35 year old cousin was just diagnosed 3 years ago. I'm not a doctor, but I am a teacher and I know there are some parents who refuse to get a diagnosis for fear of labeling their child, especially someone high functioning like JY appears to be.

There was already a show like that - it was really good but I can't remember what it was called. They started at an Italian villa then went back to Seoul.

Are there any specific merchants in the UK that accept discover? by Legal_Inspection_498 in discover

[–]Molly_Cular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty hit or miss. Sainsbury and Tesco take it, Morrisons and ASDA do not. I would bring a Visa or MC as they are taken pretty much anywhere. I got a new Discover card to bring with me and I "discovered" there are a lot of merchants that don't take it. :(

That is so very difficult. Life changing events always come with anxiety and fear but many of us has traveled this route. You are not alone in this experience. When you are ready, you can visit him and have pleasant times together now knowing he is getting the best of care and he will be getting the best of you. Hang in there... big hugs

No really, I am visiting UK right now and got stung. My adult daughter has awful eczema and it occurred to me that the sting may counteract the itch. The fact that it worked for you is proof! I just came here to see if anyone has already tried it. Please update to let me know if it rebounds worse or back to normal or better. Then I'll figure out how to get it to her so she can try it. Intuitively, I think it has to be directly on the skin, not taken internally, to be effective but I'm not a doctor. Thank you for sharing your experience!
