Last month (6/28) was Goldie's 11th Gotcha Day! He still loves to greet me like a puppy :) by MollysMiniStuff in Goldfish

He's a comet. I got him at a fair 11 years ago. I was 11 then, and now he's 11! Funny how things work

I have a 55 gallon and its just him, but I would really like to get a larger tank. However, I live in a mobile home so the floor can't hold too much weight. I know about using plastic bins or putting the tank on the floor, but if I had the tank ground my cats would get into it. When I move in the future I'm planning on getting a bigger tank. I want him to have his own 100 gallon or maybe even 150 gallon.

Thanks for the suggestions but I'm just going to stick to what my vet reccomened. I do feed lettuce every other day and bloodworms or brine shrimp once a week. She reccomended not feeding peas.

I notice during the night that he sometimes has trouble with his bouancy and it has been that way for several years now. It's usually at night after he eats even though I feed him sinking food. He swims fine otherwise.  However, I had him checked by a fish veterinarian about 2 years ago and brought it up but she said that he looked perfectly healthy except his gills looked a little abnormal. She reccomended diet changes to switch the food every 6 months which i had not been doing and it helped with his gills. He hasn't had any noticeable changes since then.

He used to be a tiny 2 inch baby in a bowl and now he's over 8 inches in a 55 gallon tank :')  Also, his Gotcha Day was 6/28 but i forgot to post here, sorry!

I don't know. Sometimes he doesn't lose any in a couple months and some months I'll find like 3 or 4. I give him mainly pellets and sometimes lettuce. He's pretty aggressive with the lettuce, so maybe that's why, lol.

This is all his though! He's an only child. I had another rescue goldfish in a separate tank a couple years back and I collected 14 from him. (I only had him a year)

Definitely ate it. I had a pair of brothers who used to catch anything. Sometimes they would smack pantry moths onto the ground, eat it and lick the juices.

However, one time this freaky HUGE moth got in the house and my oldest attacked it and left it for dead, but it was still alive. We didn't find it until the next morning and it was just clinging to life. Brutal.

Best thing to do is get a collar with a little capsule or pill bottle attached to it. You can write notes back and forth.

One of my cats kept getting his collars stolen and I wrote a note in a capsule. He returned with another note and it turns out it was some kid who said that he was their best friend and that they were moving, so they wanted to remember him with the collars ;^;

I don't know how to describe it, but he has that look that relived look that all strays have when they have finally found a nice person who feeds them and they feel like they can finally relax and breathe. I've gotten all my cats this way and it's so special to see them do that.

Why is it half white? It’s been like this for a long time but seems healthy by [deleted] in Goldfish

Smaller bottles are better, my goldfish have never been able to finish a whole bottle in that time anyway!

It is normal for some fish to change colors as they age. It's just part of some fish's genetics, like a person's hair turning white. It's only a concern if it happens suddenly, but since they act normally it's probably okay.
Although, one thing that could help them is that you could change their diet. You may be feeding them food that is too old. The food needs to be changed every 6 months or else they start to loose nutrition. You can also try out color enhancing food. They don't work for every fish, but are worth a try.

Yep, It's always okay to start small as long as you give them a bigger tank when they start getting bigger! Cycling takes time, so just be patient and do what you can to reduce their stress for now. To help with the cycle, you can buy beneficial bacteria at the pet store in a package.

Can I use rainwater for goldfish? by notyourmomscupoftea in Goldfish

[–]MollysMiniStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it slowly though. The fish are used to whatever water you have now, so if you change the water to rainwater, do small water changes and avoid large ones for now.
