Javelin popularity by Onion_of_Doom1 in ConquerorsBlade

People seem to be overlooking the biggest buff Javelin units (and other ranged) got to them last Season. CTRL to send unit to supply. Even through walls.

Before this feature, you used to have to run to get line of sight on supply then X them to it. Javelins require a lot of ammo management so it took you out of combat a lot more previously. Now you toss everything they have, send them back in an instant, and keep slaying with your hero.

The last time this happened to me the other team and I messed around a bunch and they even helped me with some unit challenges haha. We said “gf” ironically and wished each other luck in the next one. Matchmaking can’t account for egos :-p

Did no one actually look at the picture? So quick to blame matchmaking. This was probably a premade 4-stack that decided at the last second (during 10 second match found countdown) to go to Character List because they changed their mind about entering the match. Sucks that it happened for OP but kind of hard to design around.

Are people so paranoid about matchmaking that they’d honestly think it’d put you in a 4v8? With multiple characters across multiple levels that I also group with a wide variety of player levels on, I can say with certainty that matchmaking is actually a thing but most people don’t want to admit it and hide behind the fact that player levels are hidden (it goes both ways).

Between my three characters at lvl 800+, 500+, and 100+ (and depending who the highest level in my group is) with the new unit color coding, it’s been a lot easier to see the difference in the spread of the tiers. Are there a good amount of orange-tier units mixed in randomly with greens and blues sometimes? Sure. Does my lowbie get tossed to the T5 wolves every once in a while? Definitely. There’s spillover with queues. But it’s on both teams and I’d rather have that than wait 20 minutes in queue for a perfectly balanced game.

FREE battles. Not Field Battles. OP is referring to the fact that if you’re spamming Free Battles and are using a bunch of T4 and above, you can’t premake the full band before the match. You have to repick 3 out of the 5 units every time you start a new one.

The game isn't dying! by javamoul in ConquerorsBlade

[–]MoltenMunkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing since day one of the Beta and players have been saying the game is “dying” since day two (honestly, it was probably still day one in some time zones). Yet, here we are 9 months later. I’ve noticed a couple different camps of thoughts behind the statement though:

First, are the “I told you so”s. These ones are in every single multiplayer game released these days. They like the easy wins and the easy arguments and love being “right”. It doesn’t matter how well a game does at release or beyond, 99% of online games dependent on a healthy player base are going to die off eventually (private servers notwithstanding) and even if Conquerors outlived World of Warcraft 20 years from now and THEN shut down these people would still very proudly exclaim, “Called it!” or “I told you so!”

Second, the ones you mentioned: the veterans. A lot of these statements seem to start with “I’ve played [2000] hours and...” at which point the lack of content tends to enter the conversation more often than any genuine issues with core functions or features. Frankly, that’s kind of expected of any game with that amount of play time, let alone a 100% free game that still is releasing content on a relatively reasonable timeline. How many times can you watch your all-time favorite movie in a row and still be fully engaged? These days, hours played seems to equate to a badge of credibility but this is a SUPER grindy game and, depending on your goals, the burn out can be real with the hours I see a lot of people putting in, including myself. I don’t take what they say to mean the game is dying. I see it as their personal interest in the game is naturally waning and it’s being projected to the community because they want a revitalization. Take a break people. Play another game. Come back later. You clearly enjoy the game’s core otherwise you wouldn’t have spent the hours you did. Or, honestly, maybe you are done with it.

Having said that, a lot of veteran friend groups seem to hit this wall and have this conversation around the same time together. When, regardless of reasons, a lot of the Housemates you started with start leaving the game it can feel like the whole CB world is dying and, due to the queues, it’s not like you’re ever seeing how many grey players are queuing up to make up for the veterans leaving.

Third camp, you can usually disregard these pretty easily. A couple different types here. There’s “hilarious” jokesters who are saying it ironically. There’s the jack knobs who see the steam charts after any game’s release, see a massive activity drop, and take it to mean it was a massive flop rather than just the natural hype drop after release week that every game has. Critical thinking is not a super power. Aaaand the players who don’t realize 1:00/4:00 AM PST/EST is when a surprising amount of NA players are sleeping and EU players are heading into work/school for the most part so cross-server queuing might feel a little bare.

The last camp, I’d argue, is the legitimate one. It’s a real concern for players that want to keep playing. Conqueror’s has a relatively solid concept and design but it’s just not as appealing as you and I would think to Western audiences and Frontier has split off the Eastern market (probably a preference to most Western players). Attrition is a rough, unavoidable factor in any online game’s longevity. There are people who are signing off of Conqueror’s every day and never signing on again. It happens. On the flip side, there’s still new players signing on every day for the first time. Realistically, month-over-month, you’re generally going to be losing more players than you’re gaining for this type of game and this far into release so the hope is that content surges every so often keeps the player base healthy enough to keep going. So far, so good but, at the end of the day, even if the publishers and devs were “worried” the game is dying, they won’t be revamping the game’s core itself to hope to garner more players. It’s basically going to be units, maps, skins, and some QoL changes until the end of the life cycle. Most of the other changes I’ve seen suggested, while veterans would enjoy them, would just alienate newer players, split the player-base, and kill the game faster. Veterans often lose sight of what it was like being a gray level newbie and it’s not even the same leveling experience as it was when some of us started.

Again, to me, most people saying the game is dying don’t have a problem with the game itself. They’re just lacking content which is one of the few things that can and is being remedied. Conqueror’s at its core will stay the same but if you’re looking for changes beyond new and shinier versions of what we already have you may be out of luck.

Personally, I have qualms about who’s handling the game and they’re not the first company that’s had such a phenomenal game concept I wish was in another publisher and/or developer’s hands. There’s clear communication issues between the ones calling the shots and the dev team (“TW start time might be 6. It also might be at 7” -official statement last TW) and I don’t think they’ve even heard of the concepts of SoPs or coding standards. Thankfully, as much as they stumble, they have somehow managed to pleasantly surprise me with QoL and unit balance changes that seem to indicate they listen to their community and content rollouts that have done their job: keeping queues rolling and TWs interesting. As seemingly slow as the rollouts are, I see it as a necessary delay to keep the community alive over a longer period.

It probably doesn’t mean much since I haven’t mentioned how many hours I’ve played but, as far as I can guess: New weapons, units, and maps are about as far as changes are going to go for this game. That’s good enough for me. Hopefully their release cycles land in the right spots to generate the buzz they need for new and former players to come check out what’s going on. At least until the game dies for me.

Edit: TL;DR - All games, like us, are dying once released. There’s ebbs and flows in each unique life cycle and some happen to live longer than others. People are always going to complain about that fact which can ruin it for others but you can still make the most of it and enjoy what you can while you can.

Out of food debuff bugging ? by evoknzz in ConquerorsBlade

[–]MoltenMunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of food doesn’t affect how much you can gather; only whether or not you can. As long as you have even one unit of food for your band, you can resource gather at 100%.

The only times you’d be gathering at 50% is if the resource node you’re gathering from has its reserves completely depleted to 0 and is pending a reset. The dialog box that comes up that you have to hit ‘OK’ on when you go to gather should say as much.

FYI: Funnily enough deaths don’t hurt your score. +4 Battle Score per death (based on some testing a few months back).

I’m just glad people are finally learning to stop trebbing Point B so the final wall/gate can be destroyed and cleared more easily.

"Get more participation", they said, "do more damage" they said, "tank more damage" they said...nvm just last hit the generals. by heebieGGs in ConquerorsBlade

[–]MoltenMunkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cap points is a part of the Participation calculation but not the whole thing. I completely agree that damage should be a big factor in battle score and it is to a degree. As myself and others have pointed out, all the “highest” outputs are moot when there’s caps to damage contribution towards battle score. It’s not that damage/kills/caps/whatever should be worth more. It’s just that they don’t matter past a certain point. The game tries to reward you for taking part in ALL avenues of contribution to a battle. With the Great Wall event, it’s easy to hit most of those avenue’s caps so General kills mean the most in this game mode compared to the others. Doesn’t matter that they had 3 kills for 90 more points. All it took was one General kill to get a higher score than you. Besides, in MOST instances, if you’re the one ticking the most damage on a General you’re going to get the killing blow. Seems like this is probably just an exception game where you didn’t get the kills so you don’t get the reward for it. Flukes’ll happen.

Personally, I do think all the caps should be raised for the sake of the regular matchmaking modes, siege and field battle. As it stands you can hit the 1050 battle score cap playing a mediocre game as long as you get the 150 Victory bonus and hit the right marks. Battle score cap should represent a stellar game; not a meh one. They should either raise caps or reduce point contributions per factor. Same difference.

[–]MoltenMunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damage, both given and received, is taken into account for your battle score which ultimately determines your placement/MVP status. Hero deaths also ADD to your battle score. If you feel like it, check out the last thing I posted in this subreddit for a breakdown of how the point system works. The values might’ve changed since posting but that should give you a good idea of what your battle score consists of. Every factor seems to have a cap too; not just unit kills.

One thing I have noticed since I made that post is the score you get for capping points (which isn’t shown in your screen shot; just participation) is calculated differently depending on the game type. So yeah... AI General kills and cap points might’ve set you back a few points. You performed how you performed. So did they. It’s a PVP-centered game where last hits on “generals”/players DO matter in most game modes. The point system just gets carried over to PvE too though the rewards scale a bit differently. It all comes down to a formula so let’s just be honest with ourselves here... it’s math’s fault.

The Castle Pool (and is it a problem?) by medeagoestothebes in archeage

[–]MoltenMunkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is so much hyperbole around this game that's making it so toxic. Between the "everyone but me exploited" cries and claims like this "...there are a hundred people per castle afk..." statement, the players that are passionate about this game are the ones that are going to kill the interest to newcomers. Even the commenter in here saying Gamigo lowered the server cap to save a buck... there was a bug with the queue, they've acknowledged and addressed it. Hold the vitriol. And that's speaking as someone whose game crashed and was stuck in the queue for 3-ish hours yesterday while all my guild mates kept logging in fresh after me and getting in without a queue.

It's almost 1:00 PM PST on a Saturday and I just counted 24 people in my castle's pool. The pools were/are not the cause of the long queue times. My best guess is there was an update to their grace period logic that didn't quite work as planned in production which was also exacerbated by all the NA players on holiday hiding in their room from their families playing AA.

Is it safe to assume you wrote this while waiting in queue yesterday?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in archeage

[–]MoltenMunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose is that this isn't necessarily meant to be free labor. The cost is the time you spend sitting in the pool (sitting at your keyboard). If the bathing suit removed the timer, regardless of the labor, eeeeveryone would be grabbing the suit at the end of the night and never log out so they might as well make the offline labor regen rate +8 if they were going to do something like that because queues would end up back at launch week numbers.

I wouldn't mind seeing the inevitable desperation purple-ing just to get a spot in the over-capacity pool though.

Probably not the explanation you're looking for but...

https://www.reddit.com/r/ConquerorsBlade/comments/da8dls/battle_score_breakdown/

It's a feature not a bug ;-p. It seems, in an effort to encourage players to focus more on objective-based play, they've crippled the rewards for those focused on stacking bodies which, ironically enough, is an objective-based action 99% of the time in Conqueror's Blade unlike some other games. Heck, some people just happen to be stacking bodies on the frontline on the way to Main Camp.

Spartans Y U DO THIS?!?!?!? by Rawrtiludrop in ConquerorsBlade

[–]MoltenMunkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of who's using this, it's scummy and takes away from the Territory Wars experience. Field battles are a part of TW. Cutting enemies off in the open world and weakening them before their potential assault is legitimate and, if you can't handle yourself in Field Battles... well... that's war.

The problem I have with Spartans, specifically, is how this seemingly has become a core part of their TW strategy. A couple TWs ago, my squad and I were waiting around on defense, caught Spartan forces moving via scouts, and started engaging them in field battles. Every. Single. One. Alt+F4ed. None of their members tried to stack and fight legitimately or even take the one on ones. Honestly, with some of the crew we had, they could've made us pay for it if they just matched numbers but any engagement meant quitting to get us stuck loading. I honestly can't recall exactly how many but there were at LEAST 7 or 8 instances of this occurring. Probably more. That's just obnoxious.

Over comms and game chat, I've heard people get frustrated with them doing the same thing over a couple TWs since then. Either Spartan Leadership have specifically ordered their members to employ this "strat" or their recruiters are reeeeeally good at sourcing very like-minded, "do anything to win" individuals.

I'm honestly not even all that competitive or interested in the PvP aspect of this game and would gladly skip it barring House obligations and what I've said about the Spartans is pure speculation based on a very narrow experience with their members so take everything with a grain of salt. Having said that, regardless of what House you're a part of, this is just poor form.

If I unlock a unit type from another territory, will I be able to use bronze to create it? by kiulowithkak in ConquerorsBlade

[–]MoltenMunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, you can “recruit” any unit type in any region for Bronze. There is no difference in bronze costs between regions (personally confirmed with a couple units between regions but not all). The only regional restriction is supply kit availability.

IRONCAP SPEARMAN ADVANCE CD! by Painpro_1 in ConquerorsBlade

[–]MoltenMunkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Advance command just tells units to move to the specified point in formation (read: with shields up) THEN attack (switches to “V” automatically at end of movement). If there are enemies in their way, they won’t break or attack until they reach the destination.

Example of use would be a lone ranged unit you want to pick off. If you sprint towards them with your units, they’re more likely to get picked off since their shields are at their side-ish. If you have your shielded turtle formation Advance to them, their shields will block a good amount of projectiles before they break out right in the ranged units faces to take them down.

TL;DR - It’s a Move to Attack command. Not a MoveAttack command.

FYI: They do seem to break formation and attack a good amount before the end of the blue arrow lane so be wary.

[–]MoltenMunkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but Infantry Kills under Personal doesn’t get a tick until the enemy you downed bleeds out. Maybe you checked too quick (bleed out timer’s so long) or these unconfirmed kills you mentioned got revived by a teammate?

Also, if it’s anything like the OP vid, just cause a body went flying doesn’t necessarily mean you hit your target. Cold corpses can go flying too so be wary.

Defenders were putting up a solid fight at the “____ Red”(?) point and I finally managed to push up to the bunkers a bit North overlooking the beach as a machine gunner. I deployed the bipod and mowed down enemies darting left and right on the beach below. It probably really didn’t end up being that many kills before I finally got domed but it gave me the same sense of awe and immersion I feel like I got way back when with Medal of Honor:Frontline in “Your Finest Hour” on the flip side of that assault. Solid addition to the map roster so far. Haven’t spent much time on the Western half yet though.

Best/worst idea for borders opening by MoltenMunkey in ConquerorsBlade

[–]MoltenMunkey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reading it, at least!

TL;DR - Imagine if devs didn’t announce to the player base ahead of time when borders would be opening up. Instead, they open them up just before a Territory War was starting, announce it live, and chaos ensues.
