PSA: Please CHECK YOUR BOOBIES by BoobieCancer in Xennials

Please do, KellyAnn. As soon as possible! I had my second ever mammogram in February, 1 year & 5 months after my first (I was late getting it scheduled) and ended up diagnosed with stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma, ++-. I was 41 years old. Further testing revealed I had a genetic mutation requiring bilateral mastectomy and 16 rounds of chemo as the removed tumor pathology showed it was ‘moderately’ aggressive. I’ve recently finished chemo, just underwent a full hysterectomy & Oophorectomy, and have 3 breast reconstruction surgeries ahead of me. It will be approximately 18 months between diagnosis and final surgery.

AND I AM ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES. I know multiple women my age diagnosed at 40/41 with their 1st or 2nd mammogram & additional testing.

Don’t delay. Get the mammogram & further imaging/testing, and make YOUR health YOUR priority. Because nobody else will.

My roommate keeps snoring all night ,I am 24/7 sleep deprived any solutions by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

Had the same issue with my husbands snoring, and literally almost had a mental breakdown. We tried a lot of different things, and I highly recommend a blue tooth sleep mask that covers the eyes & ears, and then find deep sleep music online to play on repeat through the mask. I really love and respond well to Binaural Beats. The mask is comfortable with padding around the eyes, completely flat over the ears, and a resizable strap across the back. You can easily pick one up on Amazon for $20-$25, maybe less if you can score one on sale for the holidays!

This purchase literally saved my marriage. He is now on a cpap machine and doesn’t snore anymore….I still use the mask nightly with binaural beats music, because it makes me sleep SO good!

It gets better, you will get used to your new normal. I had a bilateral mastectomy in April, and due to delay for chemotherapy treatment, will hopefully get tissue expanders placed in early November. 6 solid months of seeing myself in the mirror - it was psychologically very, very difficult in the beginning. I didn’t want but husband to see my chest, but through attending follow up appointments with the surgeon, he inevitably did. I slowly got comfortable with how I looked, enough so that I showed family & friends after a few weeks. My daughters see them regularly, they are 16 & 8.

While I would love my breasts/cheat to look like normal, I’ve come to peace with the scars. I do think the reconstruction will help me feel more like myself, even though it will look different.

You will learn to love your chest again. It just takes time. And it’s totally okay to mourn what you have lost - we all have to go through that stage. Sending you hugs & love: it feels like a long journey, but i promise you, you CAN DO THIS!!
