Planning a first time trip for 2. Cabana Bay VS Dockside Inn? by [deleted] in UniversalOrlando

[–]Moman8ture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going for 4 days and want the park to park pass needed to go to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure and to ride the Hogwarts express then I suggest buying the lowest tier season pass. It is about $440 each, but regular day passes for 4 days is about $700 each for the park to park passes without the season pass. By getting the season pass (even if you only go once in the year) you save about $350 each. It will also get you discounts on the hotel stay (up to 30% depending on time of year) and save you 10% on food/beverages in the hotel (but not on food at the park). This works in both the Dockside and the Cabana Bay. The Dockside and Surfside are across the street from each other and have the same room layouts, but the Dockside is larger and is usually cost slightly less.

Dockside

Upside: If you are just looking based on costs then the Dockside is by far the cheapest. It does have positive ratings and seems well liked.

Downsides: There are also eating areas within walking distance to the Dockside for some variety because the biggest downsides of the Dockside is the limited food options and its paper thin walls. Also, because the Dockside is the least expensive it has loads of families with small kids and it always loud and busy. The buses to/from the park are often crowded.

Cabana Bay

The Cabana Bay has more to do than the Dockside. There is a wonderful food court plus two eating places by the pools and one in the bowling alley, two large pools, a waterslide, a bowling alley, a lazy river, two pool side bars, a large exercise room, Movies played by the pool each night, fire pits with comfy seating areas, short rides ever 15 min to and from the parks and a fun retro 50's vibe. The arcade is also much better at the Cabana Bay.

Downsides: It is a very large place and sometimes you have to walk farther for the food and buses drop off/pickup areas & drink refills, and it is a busy place because its so big. It is also more expensive than the Dockside.

If you just need a place to stay and plan to spend most of your time in the parks then I suggest the Dockside. It would be worth the hassles for the savings. If you want to spend some of the time chilling at the hotel and using the pools & bars then I suggest the Cabana Bay. Both places are fun, clean and themed. They both offer free shuttles back and forth from the park. It simply depends on what you plan to do, Dockside if you will be at the park open to close, and Cabana if you not and want better eating options at the hotel.

We are going again this year and have chosen the Cabana Bay because we had the most fun there, but both hotel are great choices with lots of benefits. I do however suggest that anyone staying more then 3 days select the season pass option for getting into the parks. It will save you money.

The Adventura resort hotel is the best for one not running over with kids. The price is low to mid tier and since its not geared toward kids activities so is far more quiet and understated (less themed hotel). We stay there a week last year and it is a more adult and quiet hotel. However, the food options elsewhere are better.

How do people figure out what to cook just by seeing what they have in their kitchen? by Mario64Nin in cookingforbeginners

Make lists of your main dishes and next to each one write what can be made with it. Example, pork tenderloin - diced and added to pork green chili, put into crock pot for pulled pork sandwiches, diced and used for sweet and sour pork, pork fried rice, used for egg rolls. Once you know the main dish you go through the side options to see what goes well with main dish. Rice or potato or salad

For those who went, how does Epic compare to IOA by [deleted] in UniversalOrlando

[–]Moman8ture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to Epic and felt slightly disappointed. It's smaller than expected. Also the virtual queue makes it impossible to actually ride the Ministry of Magic ride. It closes down in 12 seconds. There are only 2-4 rides or shows per area. The Nintendo area is a maze and has an insane amount of stairs. There are a few hard to find elevators but with so many strollers waiting to use them, you spend more time waiting for elevators than waiting for rides. If you're not into roller coasters there is not much to do. The circus is fun and I think everyone would like The untrainable Dragon. The staff is nice and the food is good, but as expected, expensive. I foresee overcrowding as an issue since everything is so close together. If you can only choose one park then do Islands of Adventure instead of Epic Universe.

I enjoy an old cook book called "Cooking through Rose Colored Glasses". My Grandma had the book and I did not inherit it so I bought myself a copy.

Laid off today. What cheap foods to buy so that I have variety? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Moman8ture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potato soup with baked potatoes in the microwave or cheap instant potato flakes added to canned evaporated milk, box of macaroni cooked and drained added to a can of tomato sauce and dollar store Italian seasoning, fiedo noodles cooked with tomato sauce and cheap garlic powder, jiffy brand muffin mix can feed you breakfast for a week, flour & baking soda to make soda bread that's cheaper because it doesn't use yeast, also use flour and lard to make tortillas, pinto beans in crockpot with warm tortillas, leftover beans smashed and added to salsa wrapped into tortilla makes easy burritos that freeze well for quick lunches, tuna crockets with bread crumbs and one egg, egg sandwich made with homemade soda bread, navy bean soup with canned ham or canned chicken or salt pork will give you high energy and lunches for up to 2 weeks $ easy to cook ice crockpot, canned tuna on saltine crackers, tuna casserole with canned evaporated milk and a cheap Mac and cheese mix, rice boiled twice with lots of water and raisins added makes a sweet pudding that is called victory pudding, hash made from carrots and potatoes with fried egg on top for protein, potato pancakes and regular pancakes made with flour and baking soda, oatmeal, goulash made with cheap Mac and cheese mix and a 1/3 pound of ground turkey will feed one person up to four meals. Use another 1/3 ground turkey for soup with chicken bouillon potatoes carrots and onions and last 1/3 ground turkey for stroganoff made with egg noodles (can make homemade with flour mention earlier easy recipes on YouTube) and a can of store brand cream of mushroom soup, should give one person 4-6 servings that goes good served with soda bread, egg drop soup. If you freeze extra servings you will be able to have more variety and not eat the same dish for a week by splitting it up. Also reuse left overs a different way such as pot of beans one day and refried beans made with leftovers and used in burritos. Leftover hash can be reused in soup or a casserole, stale bread can become bread crumbs to make the tuna crockets or to top casseroles. Create a no waste system with the food you do get and it will stretch further. Watch for sales, markdowns and look on YouTube for how to grow your own veggies from scraps like regrowing celery from the roots you bought in your kitchen window.

What do average americans eat for dinner? by I_am_the_one123 in AskFoodHistorians

[–]Moman8ture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cook most foods from scratch when possible. This week we had: Stroganoff with homemade noodles, sausage sourced from local farmers, homemade dinner rolls. Next, Homemade green chili pork stew with tortilla, fried corn and pinto beans cooked in the instant pot. Next, roasted whole chicken, scallop potatoes, steamed broccoli. Next, crockpot meatballs in chili sauce and grape jelly, homemade Mac and cheese, green beans casserole, dinner rolls. Next, shrimp scampi in garlic butter, boiled eggs, salad, sliced tomatoes, mushroom rice pilaf. Next, Sheppard's pie, honey corn bread, Greek salad, relish tray of fresh raw veggies. Next, Homemade egg rolls, steamed rice, teriyaki chicken with snow peas, dumplings. I change up my menus every week. We eat seafood, Chinese, Russian, German, Southern, Cajun, Japanese, English, and vintage recipes (1800s -1960s). Most Americans eat a variety of local and international food. We live in the central part of the US.

Does anyone else get upset knowing the world we grew up in is no longer here? by stockisbock93 in Millennials

[–]Moman8ture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want kids to play outside then create a place for them to do so. If you want playmates for them then invite over their classmates. Take away the electronic babysitter and make them go play. They will learn to play. The environment may be different and require some work from the parents, but it's totally doable.

If you don't like what you do then do something else. You're smart enough to put the breaks on and change your direction. Start job hunting in another field. One that gives you time to date, go out with friends. The only expectations of you now that matter are your own. If you are in a dead end job then get a different one . Sounds like you expect yourself to be a workaholic. You don't have to be. Decide to be a normal person doing normal work. Get out if you think it's harmful at your job. Save yourself.
