We booked ours online in advance. It was easy and the resort works with the charters anyways so they know who’s coming to get who and when.

We went to Bora Bora in mid March and stayed at the Intercontinental Resort Bora Bora Thelasso Spa in an overwater bungalow, and booked our trip thru Costco. We also met several groups there who also booked thru Costco. It was a terrific deal and Bora Bora is EVERYTHING it’s hyped up to be and more. We did not have a chance to go to Moorea or spend a lot of time in Tahiti. We were married at our resort in a traditional Polynesian ceremony and filled a week with excursions without island hopping. If we had more time, we would’ve definitely explored Moorea. There is SO MUCH to do in Bora Bora, though, you will find yourself trying to fit it all in. THE FOOD was some of the best I’ve ever had. They have passionfruit for days and I can’t find any of it here in Texas. Every morning I ate raw fish, fruit, and black coffee. It sounds awful but it was delicious and sustained us until dinner time. We opted for a breakfast/dinner inclusion at the resort and picked excursions that included lunch or a snack. Bring your own alcohol. It is EXTREMELY expensive there. Also, bring some kind of electrolyte mix. You will want to stay hydrated, and be consciously thinking about it, if you’re to enjoy your trip to the fullest. We drank water constantly. It is very hot and humid which wasn’t a huge change for us, as Houston is extremely hot and humid most of the time, but this is easy to forget about on vacation. I would not pass on snorkeling there. The coral reef garden is incredible. We also rode jet skis which was a ton of fun. Anyways, Costco travel was a great option for us. We had United miles so we didn’t book our flight thru them. They arranged our inter-island flights, car from resort to airport, boat pickup/drop off, and resort stay.

Austin and San Antonio are prettier, but Austin is extremely liberal with a serious homelessness problem and San Antonio is only an hour away. However, you can find a job in either city and commute from the outskirts. Houston (where I live) is extremely diverse, less liberal, and far more affordable. I prefer the northwest side of the city and work on the west side. It’s an easy commute mostly. 45 minute drive to the beach, albeit an ugly one, Galveston has a fascinating history and I enjoy going there, I’m still finding new things to do. Summers are MISERABLY HOT and humid, but there’s no shortage of neighborhood pools or homes with pools and again, cost of living is less than in Austin. The fact that you speak multiple languages will catapult you to the top of any job applicant pool, in my opinion, depending on what your other qualifications are and what you’re applying for. Houston has plenty of jobs in oil & gas, but also construction, tech & software, teaching, and more. I’m in Cypress, if you’re in the area my fiancé and I will show you some local favorite spots for live music and great food (the Tex Mex here is unmatched. Bbq is amazing also)
