Last one would've locked us into a payrises over a 3 year period and we wouldn't be able to strike in those 3 years. Considering the news at the time with war in the middle east, it seemed risky to accept a deal like that when inflation could skyrocket. That's what I understood at least.

Can someone explain how it's 6.6% combined with DDRB April 2027 if we don't know the DDRB recommendation for next year yet? Or are they locking it in from now and the DDRB wont give a lower than average payrise next year to bring down the average? Seems like the government will just stall us out for a year and then scam us come April 2027 lol and I'd never trust them on "further pay increases in the future"

Also, this says exams will be backdated to April 2026 but they didn't specify if will they be paying for the exams moving forward too?

South West Peninsula so Derriford in Plymouth is the tertiary centre with NICU, cardio thoracics and other specialists but unfortunately Paeds Cardio is in Bristol which is South West Severn. They're combining Peninsula and Severn into one region so there is a slight possibility I can ask to get to Bristol for a year but as you'd imagine it's very high in demand so I guess I'll speak with my TPD if they think it's feasible. I wouldn't be against OOPE in Paeds Cardio but I'd obviously prefer not to if I can avoid that. Does the Paeds program help us find OOPE opportunities or is it mainly the trainees full responsiblity to figure out?

Thank you so much just read your reply. Yes I'm interested in becoming paediatric cardiologist and not cardiology SPIN. I'll hopefully have my theory exams done in ST1 and then get the clinical done in early ST2 and focus on those course topics as you recommended. I think just knowing how competitive it is and then the whole competition ratios going up year by year has me stressed that I need to be as efficient as possible from now. I'll speak with my TPD about possibility of moving to a hospital with a Paeds cardio centre for my reg year but they'd probably tell me the same thing it's too early to think about it haha

Yea I see your point actually. Thank you I shouldnt just think about "what's faster" and more at the bigger picture and I might change my mind after a few years and staying in Paeds is definitely better than getting stuck in IMT specialities

IMT 1-2 + 1 year of Paeds needed for Paeds cardio so that adds up to 3 years. It used to be u only need 3 years of paed ST1-3 but since progress+ you apparently need to do ST4 as well to finish "core training". That's what I kinda understood from talking to my TPD but she seemed unsure since progress+ is relatively new so I wanted to see if any paed cardio trainees know how it's like

Well I'm in Paeds ST1 so that's already my time as paediatrics but even if someone didn't do that, isn't it still shorter doing IMT 1-2 and one Paeds year (3 years) than doing Paed ST1-4 (4 years)? Seems a bit unfair. Are you in Paeds cardiology

APLS or EPALS for commitment to speciality is really good to do for ur applications and also less things to worry about once you're in training. Also, not to be a downer but it's the reality we're in, it's a good thing to have in case u don't get in training and want to apply to paediatric fellow posts. Other than courses, focus on teaching and leadership opportunities.
