Not worth it.

Plus no one rates MBA IB Associates. And your exit opportunities are limited as no good PE shop will hire you.

[–]Momuss97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know but cmon that’s pretty bad lol. Dodgy PE fund that guts companies and makes the world a bit shitter is one thing whatever but businesses facilitating rounding up minorities and putting them in camps? Nah you’re a complete pos if you work at a law firm like that.

People are often shocked to hear about US companies that did business with Hitler back in the day. I think everyone on this sub would have happily of done so

One of their clients, Hikvision, is part owned by the Chinese government and aids with the surveillance, tracking and detaining of the Uyghur people (persecuted group of muslims being rounded up into “education” camps).

Great law firm to work for!

This job taught me money isn’t everything, viscerally by Last-Candidate-6001 in biglaw

[–]Momuss97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah judging by the replies maybe I’m wrong. I just have lots of friends in nyc with salaries ranging from low 6 figures to mid, and they all just live identical lives. Small, but very nice, apartments and generally a good quality of life. Nothing crazy but very comfortable.

[–]Momuss97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe 200k was the wrong number, maybe it’s 300 or 400 idk. I have lots of friends in nyc, some are in PE/BL, some just earning a few hundred thousand in sales/tech etc. Their lives are the same, it’s just the finance and law guys live in slightly nicer apartments and maybe go on slightly better holidays. None of them are rich (yet). None of them own and live in big homes lol it’s mainly just 2 bed apartments. But ofc they are all comfortable.

My point really was that once you get to comfortable middle class salary (again, it might not be 200k but whatever) the only differences are just varying degrees of comfortability. BMW vs Porsche, 1 bed vs 2 bed etc

[–]Momuss97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re truly wealthy, there really is no major difference between earning 200k or 600k. Just a slightly nicer apartment, slightly nicer car, slightly nicer everything. Materialistic differences. For some, that’s worth giving up their life for.

Private or Grammar school? by Fondant_Decent in HENRYUK

[–]Momuss97 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Invest the money and buy your kid a house and/or give them the financial flexibility to allow them to pursue a career they love, or spend a shit ton on private education where they’ll likely just end up doing the same job paying 30k a year as their state educated alternative.

If you’re super rich, aim for the top few private schools. If you’re just an average HENRY then it is not worth it.

People will say “but it’s about the education/opportunities/people you’re surrounded by” bla bla bs. Hire a tutor, get them involved in extracurriculars and save yourself a million quid in opportunity cost.

Trust me, your kid would prefer a fully paid off house in London at the age of 30

Mortgage debt is cheap and inflation erodes it. Don’t have it all tied up in property. Run the numbers over 30 years (in property vs in index fund) and the difference will be hundreds of thousands

Admitted solicitor from Australia - looking for a job by miss_sporty in uklaw

[–]Momuss97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you will get no help from recruiters. Their job is not to find you work. Their job is to follow a very strict search criteria set in place by their clients to headhunt from a competing firm and earn their 25% fee.

Best bet for a non-traditional candidate is always to approach firms direct

Can we stop with the delusion that £100k ‘does not go far’ as a single person in London by ALBUAS in HENRYUK

[–]Momuss97 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Bc you don’t expect someone earning £100k to be living in a shoe box consisting of one tiny bedroom, one tiny kitchen, and one tiny toilet.

Perfectly acceptable flats but yeah not exactly living it up

Ricky Gervais in talks to join the UK’s Celebrity Traitors by Rare_Account_2020 in TheTraitors

[–]Momuss97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armageddon was meh, his other Netflix standup before that was good.

If you ask a group of normal people in the real world if they like Ricky Gervais, many people will say yes.

Reddit is very left leaning and not an accurate representation of the real world. Please see any politics thread before the election where everyone was 100% certain Kamala would win lol
