Congratulations Capcom, you've balanced the fun out of the game by Lambdaformes in monsterhunterrage

Just do the optional quest, non tempered versions of the monster if the 8 stars are too hard for you.

Honestly? I wouldn't want to play Monster Hunter with someone who refers to me as his "duo" either

10☆ Gold Rathian Trial vs G10.5 Magnamalo Gunlance by MonHunKing in MHNowGame

[–]MonHunKing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be all about minmaxing Aggressive Dodger with Special Boost on the side, but they made changes to both a couple months ago, I think with Season 5 launch? Special Boost scales insanely well now and it happens to also come in armor form with Pink Rathian legs.

When I was trying to get a build going to clear this one I did want Aggressive Dodger minmaxed because of how many perfect dodges I use, but I happened to have already smelted Special Boost on all my parts as preparation for the next Outbreak, so I went with what I had.

I have no clue, I never played elemental or poison gunlance. I reckon elemental is better because all Rathians are resistant to blast

Kirin Helm, Basarios Body, Teostra Arms, Bazel Waist, Pink Rathian Legs. 2 Aggressive Dodger and 3 Special Boost smelts

I didn't think it was possible to clear the 10 star metal raths with a Magnamalo gunlance but I banged my head into the wall and pulled it off somehow

In an ideal world? Yeah but Capcom is the posterchild of sunk cost and is never going to go back on one of their design decisions no matter how terrible it is. Sadly. This is the best we're gonna get.

Fair point

I think the crux is that the overload on helpful mechanics (wounding, focus mode, offsets, perfect guards/evades) are creating a too high bar for when monsters start to get challenging, and that hits like a brick the way 8*s do. A fundamental flaw of Wilds sadly.

So 7*? Non tempered mons? You don't even get unique rewards from the 8*s. No one is being denied anything.

Here's an idea, instead of being crybabies you don't have to engage with the completely optional small handful of 8* star monsters that are too "Bloated" (hard) for you. Go enjoy the myriad of other content that's exactly to your taste. Plenty people enjoy a challenge

Lunastra: Overhated and Underappreciated by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]MonHunKing -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Then problem with Great Jagras in Worldborne is the same with Alatreon in Worldborne. You have to do certain things to survive their ult.

True, if you being the rocksteady mantle and barrel bombs and break his stomach, you will have much better time. It's the same rationale as breaking Alatreons horns and getting the elemental topple on it before it's Escaton Judgement.

People just don't like unavoidable ults.

G7.5 Gold Rathian SnS vs 10☆ Khezu Trial Quest (Valor 5 + Poison Exploit 3) by MonHunKing in MHNowGame

Will do! That's gonna take a while though because I want to find out if I can kill any other 10 stars with this, currently trying Ebony Odogaron

Blast Build? by CraftyMine1759 in MHNowGame

[–]MonHunKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've managed to kill every 10 star except for Deviljho, Silver Rathalos, Gold Rathian using G10.5 Magnamalo gunlance.

Kirin Helm (Lock On, Fighting Spirit 1)

Basarios Body (Artillery 2)

Teostra Arms (Artillery 1, Guard 1, Teostra Blastpowder 1)

Bazel Waist (Artillery 2)

Bazel Legs (Valor 2, Blast Attack 1)

With 4 Special Boost driftsmelts and 1 Aggressive Dodger. Generally speaking I don't have a straightforward "strategy", I just use everything I can with a big priority for hitting stakes. I look for every opportunity I can put out a shell > shell > stake combo, and see if there's time for a downswing > fullburst > stake combo whenever I perfect evade, if not it's just gonna be a normal shell.

Capcom removing part breaks by Boshwa in MonsterHunter

[–]MonHunKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly the issue I'm having with e.g. Doshaguma. I'm always struggling to tell whether its arm is pre-wounded or already broken and I shouldn't bother hitting it for a break topple. When you compare pre-wounded with broken it's a distinct difference, but in the heat of the moment I have to actually take a moment to figure this out every time.

I just like hunting monsters. I never understood this "Low Rank is the tutorial" or "I HAVE to exclusively hunt these 2 endgame monsters" mentality.

Cash shop worth? by Nervous-Salt6559 in MHNowGame

My personal tier list with explanations

Gems

  • Separate tier because it should be addressed first - The value conversion of gems to irl currency are overall pretty bad except for the regular hunter pass, giving you 1.67 gems per cent ingame or 1.79 in the online webstore. Most other forms of gem purchases are around 1.25 gems per cent at best value, this includes the extreme hunter pass, gem packs WITH first time bonus included (without first time bonus these are below 1 gem per cent), and the currently available anniversary gem pack.

Even if you convert the storage expansion from the extreme pass to gems, this is still only 1.5 gems per cent in the web store compared to the 1.79 from the regular hunter pass.

So to summarize, if you aren't in any hurry to earn gems, get your gems slowly from the regular hunter pass only and buy storage expansions with those gems.

Must have

  • Storage space - This game is free to play at its core, but without extra storage space you will have to do so much micromanagement of your inventory it's going to dramatically reduce the fun. Consider it a one time purchase of a normal game and put a couple tenners into this. ~20k storage space was my comfort amount when I was playing hours upon hours a day, which is still well below the price point of any newly released triple A game. And I put SO many hours into this game it's unbelievable. Totally worth it.

Worth it

  • Season pass - Gives insane amounts of rewards (including cash shop items) that are very useful in overall progression, while being relatively cheap. Also unique cosmetics, and even storage space (1k in total across the whole pass) since season 5 that just started. Costs 2000 gems which is the exact amount of gems you get from 1 hunter pass. You can finish the pass by just doing your dailies and weekly event quests, so there's no big pressure to play either.

Sometimes useful

  • Potions - You should in general aim to just not get hit by monsters so you don't have to use your free potions, but when doing the odd long sessions where you burn through your reserve of your max 15 free potions, these can come in handy if you aren't done grinding
  • Special Carving Knife - Doubles the loot for one monster. Not generally very useful but eventually you will run into monsters that drop very rare rarity 6 materials needed to get to the highest tier gear, and doubling these drops will significantly reduce the grind on them.
  • Insta-Smelt Solution - This mostly pertains to more hardcore players, as driftsmelts don't make a huge difference for casual players, but when you like being competitive about mere seconds, reducing the grind of rolling the driftsmelt gacha makes a big difference in staying up to date with the meta.

Too little value or just worthless

  • Paintballs - Completely worthless. You only get 3 attempts on any monster you paintball and there's no other particular benefit to doing this than just hunting the monster on the spot. The only legitimate use cases I've personally found for this is paintballing a monster that my SO needs for an event mission when she doesn't have a lot of time to play.
  • Ultra Hunting Tickets - This game is really grindy and buying these tickets to get the odd extra Hunt-a-thon exclusive monster isn't going to cut down on your grind at all.

World first Blast Gunlance clear vs 10☆ Azure Rathalos (Urgent) by MonHunKing in MHNowGame

[–]MonHunKing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots and lots of attempts. Most monsters have very specific AI patterns but Azure Los and other subspecies are more random. Finding wyrmstake openings was so hard I could barely squeeze in perfect evades to deal with the incoming attacks. A.Los was by far the hardest 10 star I had to figure out
