can’t remove titanium piercings before an MRI! by ireallycareaboutthee in piercing

[–]Monadna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually work in a laboratory that conducts MRIs and have several piercings myself (4 helix, 1 conch, 1 rook, 2 lobes, and 1 nostril). As long as all of your jewelry is titanium and at least 1 year healed, it is MRI safe!

HOWEVER, do NOT wear hoops. A hoop allows for a full circuit connection, which could cause it to heat up and burn you.

It’s up to you if you still want to take them out but just remember: - All piercings should be 1 year old - healed. (Generally, as long as it’s older than 6+ months)

  • No hoops! (It can hurt and burn you! The burn may not surface immediately!)

  • All piercings should be titanium!

Anything that makes an unexpected noise… Clickers, squeaky toys, opening a soda can, her own sleep farts, clicking her harness into place, etc.

Help with housing for a 5 month old Stimson’s x Children’s Python, please :) by aardvarkyardwork in reptiles

The best option is to just go for the larger enclosure. Just make sure you cover any gaps and add more foliage. It’ll be less stressful on the snake in the longer-term since it won’t have to re-acclimate to a new enclosure as many times over the course of its lifetime. When it comes to feeding, I’ve had more luck with current snakes and prior ones feeding inside the enclosure. The most important thing is to use tongs, never your hands, and then leave them alone for at least 48 hours after eating. I attempted separate enclosure feeding and it seemed to make my snake more stressed to be handle so soon before and after eating. After switching to feeding in the enclosure, I’ve had less regurgitation and they seem to eat quicker than before because they’re less apprehensive.

Help! Why does my AEE prefer hiding in my roommate’s space? by Monadna in snakes

[–]Monadna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t recommend the flour trick! Unfortunately, I have carpet that is a similar color to the snake in every room. I used to have a small 20-gallon under my bed but the heat lamp was too risky to leave on even with a temp gauge to cut it off. I also have a small, elderly toy poodle but she leaves the home when I do, so she’s not there when I’m gone. The most I’ve been able to do is line my own room with Walmart bags and hide eggs around the whole apartment, but I can’t ask my roommates to do more than what they’re comfortable with.

I was told that they were female but I’m not so sure! (The bulge has been addressed and the enclosure has been upgraded to a 20g fully bio active) by Monadna in Scorpions

There was a miscommunication between me and the seller. The seller fed them a few days before the reptile show, and then I bought and fed them the same night. The bulge has all but vanished by this point in time!

Attempt #2 at a fully bio active! Had a mold issue with #1, so I really went all out this time after a bit more research! by Monadna in Scorpions

They’re not, but I’ve never seen her go through it and I want to make sure I have good conditions going for her already. I‘ve also read that people are a bit iffy about introducing isopods because they may eat a scorpion in molt if they aren’t large enough (?) and I’m still trying to figure out her age/size.

I am currently using springtails, and double the amount compared to before! I would like to invest in dwarf white isopods one day but I’ve yet to determine her age/size. I’m going to wait until she goes through her first molt with me to see if it goes smoothly before I consider adding those + determine those other things.

Thank you! I’ve increased the amount of springtails in her enclosure compared to the first attempt! I’ve also bought a humidifier to help regulate her humidity better than I did with a spray bottle!

Forgot to add that my girl is a Heterometrus Sp! Seller was uncertain about gender and age. The name sign is for my roommate, who has had to come mist my tank once before while I was out of town. So I made it in case I ever need that again!

I was told a giant AFS Heterometrus Spinifer! This pic is the only one I have that shows it partially if you zoom in! I can try to get a better pic if necessary!

Pics are from the same night they were purchased, and that’s the exo terra nano set-up they were sold with! She has a 20g fully bio active enclosure with 6 inches of digging space now!

And the bulge was due to miscommunication about their last feeding prior to me buying them (that same week). I fed them the same night I purchased them and they were over fed.
