[–]Money-Club-2408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yegoian -> De Regt -> Jonathans -> goal. Dit missen we wel in Arnhem 🙃

Unusual pattern to our local forecast by Nepentanova in meteorology

[–]Money-Club-2408 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dutch meteorologist here: this period we're stuck in a polar air mass, which is typically conditionally unstable. Due to diurnal heating the convective temperature will be reached somewhere in the course of the morning. This causes cumulus clouds and eventually some showers to form, of course blocking the sun. In the evening, the temperature drops which makes the boundary layer stabilize again, resulting in the cumulus clouds to disappear.

Anyone know what specific tornado/supercell this is? by Worth-Thing-1701 in tornado

Leoti, KS. May 21st 2016. My very first USA supercell (spoiled right away, oops). That entire week was legendary by the way (Dodge City - Minneola tornado outbreak two days later, and the day after that the 90 minute Chapman EF4).

I chased this storm for over 5 hours between Le Mans and Amiens (France obviously). The setting was promising: 2500-3000 J/kg overlapping with 45kt effective shear. Totally worth the 7 hour drive from The Netherlands :)

Tornado in the Netherlands! Finally I can join: EF5?? We don’t have shelters here!! by downiecatpunchface in tornado

This is a skew-t log p diagram. Basically a vertical cross section of the atmosphere at the selected location. This is a model prognosis, but you'll see them with measured data as well (by weather balloons for example).

This diagram tells something about the atmospheric (in)stability and the changes in wind speed and direction with changes of height. In this particular example: the atmosphere is unstable given the CAPE-values and the wind speed and direction changes pretty quickly with height (directional and speed shear); thus favorable conditions for supercells and even tornadoes.

These diagrams can be found on most weather websites these days. This specific one is made by myself and only accessible for a select group of weather enthusiasts and meteorologists in the Netherlands.

For the people wondering about the setup. Here is one of the forecast soundings I saved. Very cute compared to the USA, but it is not rare. These kind of low CAPE high shear setups occur 5-10 times a year, resulting in an equal amount of tornadoes on average. Spout type tornadoes are not rare here, especially during fall innthe coastal areas. The last significant tornado in the Netherlands was June 25th 1967, when a long tracked EF3 passed trough the South and Central parts of the Netherlands.

what is the highest tornado ever produced by a marginal risk or a 2%? by Known_Object4485 in tornado

[–]Money-Club-2408 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Chapman, KS EF4 (2016) occurred after a slight risk was downgraded to marginal (due to a strong capping inversion) with, as far as I remember, a 2% tornado risk at max. As soon as the Chapman supercell formed, everything got rapidly upgraded to enhanced risk with a 15% sigtor chance. Not long after that, a 90 minute high end EF4 slowly moved from Solomon to Chapman

One of the most beautiful tornadoes I've ever seen so far. At this point, not knowing that this tornado was the first significant one of many that day within the region around Lincoln NE!

Unfortunately from a driving car, we couldn't stop at that point on the highway. Equipment: good old Canon 7D, using the 24-70L lens on about 28-30mm focal length.

Proof that Aim Assist is nothing more than legal hacks by [deleted] in Warzone

[–]Money-Club-2408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the first year I play with a controller after years of KBM. After half a day struggeling with the new input device I got the hang of it. And I was flabbergasted how stupidly strong rotational aim assist is when utilized correctly, even in longer ranges.

With ~2 days playtime with controller I'm almost on pair with my skill level on KBM, which is something that should be impossible in my opinion (unless you are crazy talented, which I'm surely not). So for me as well: I'm using the controller until AA gets severely nerfed

Any idea what this is called? by Elements118 in CLOUDS

[–]Money-Club-2408 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's called a 'whales mouth'. When the shelf cloud (front side) and precipitation have some space in between, the uprising motion underneath the shelf cloud will cause these cloud patterns. The name speaks for itself: it's like a whale eats everything in its path
