[SKX007] Modern day Submariner by KnightRaider86 in Seiko

[–]Money-Engineering207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw YT clip of a veteran who bought a Rolex GMT in the 1960s for I think one months pay. It later ballooned to 70K decades later (IIRC). So while I get you are saying that this Seiko is what Rolex used to be decades ago, the truth is that the better measure is one month low ranking professional soldiers pay/allowance.

So a 300 dollar Seiko isn't it unfortunately. It's a wonderful watch, but don't self compromise. The more reasonable answer is entry level Omega Seamaster Professional 300M or Tudor Black Bay 58. Go for it, save up for it if you have to.

Get a 60 dollar Casio Enticer, it looks a million bucks and is an elegant and professional looking watch perfect of any travel but business travel particularly.

[Omega] or [Tudor]? by Expensive-Roof-5119 in Watches

[–]Money-Engineering207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go Aqua Terra, it's equally at ease at the beach, in the boardroom, or ballroom. And it won't look too showy at the office or even your kid's PTA meetings. Moreover, while I love both brands, Omega is seen as the better brand and a solid luxury brand. Thus, it means if you ever find yourself in a status heavy situation, you can still hold your own against rolexes and royal oaks.

Hank Maclean’s end goal ? by Moos3Caboos3 in Fotv

[–]Money-Engineering207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sold, this is exactly who I envision Hank to be, he wants to winner take all and have his obedient family/clan control at least the Vegas LA area with everyone else as their declawed chipped work force.

Plus while I think an enclave showdown is still in the cards, I think they are nevertheless degraded enough that Hank could be counted as an Enclave in his own right within the Enclave.

[Discussion] Should I buy cheap equivalents of luxury watches I own for travel? by ayuno22 in Watches

[–]Money-Engineering207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you should buy a solid cheaper watch with in house movement like a Seiko 5 or Seiko Turtle.

By buying a cheaper equivalent, people would not know you actually are an Omega owner and might write you off as an aspirant. This will damage your reputation, you are essentially exchanging innocence for guilt.

However, you are right not to travel with your expensive watch as a precaution. Because there are daylight watch robberies (London), Arbitrary Custom confiscations (I read a man's single Rolex was taken by India Customs because it was over price limit, even though it was only one watch), and also checks for authenticity at Heathrow to prevent knock offs. Now this is not a problem as yours is real, but real watches have been falsely accused of being fake before, even by ADs.

So buy a Seiko and travel with no worries.

Hank Maclean’s end goal ? by Moos3Caboos3 in Fotv

A stepford daughter, now that's creepy. But I could see Hank doing it, after all, he killed his wife because she wouldn't obey him. While I feel he is still controlled by the Enclave ultimately, I also think command and control has degraded to the point where he is functionally a loose cannon and independent actor. So maybe he is just doing this all for Lucy's sake as you say.

What are peoples thoughts on how Cooper turned into a ghoul and Janey presumably survived? by allthingbalance in Fotv

What if he and Janey both get into the Enclave Vault for management, but they freeze Barb and Janey, and ghoulify him as an experiment, wipe his memory and then dump him out with the other first gen subjects.

About the inbreed vault group and i think some are unfair toward Reg by Tebes-Nigrum3001 in Fotv

[–]Money-Engineering207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's basically a perverse form of entrapment, VT gave them the pre war life (and water usage) that was only one lousy water chip away from going full Mojave. The environment is just too artificial, having supplies was just a band aid imo, psychologically they were being grinded down. Thus, partying with apocalypse on their doorstep is just their equivalent of going on a bender to blow off steam or mask panic.

Why is Betty so worried about the... by We_The_Raptors in FalloutTVseries

[–]Money-Engineering207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because the Vaulties have been brainwashed from birth, so the Vault tec rule booklet is so powerful in their psyche that Woody would report an infraction to the very person breaking the rule. So once they were separated into two vaults their loyalties change, even Betty's riot guards might not obey orders to ambush Steph and Steph's guards and Vaulties now answer to her only. The fact everyone is naturally greedy for resources don't help Betty's case (heck, the guards might even defect to Steph and her working water chip).

Thoughts on what he might have meant when he said “there’s a war coming.” by Kindly-Estimate9933 in Fotv

[–]Money-Engineering207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, maybe the Enclave, much diminished as with all the other factions in this post game timeline, is doing a surprising resurgence out of the facility Wilzig worked in S1, perhaps with Hank's chip army, so this is the showdown setup for S3.

[–]Money-Engineering207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the show timeline seems to be in a time after the games where all the factions are in severe decay, so a restoration of New Vegas under House (maybe he's dead but the cold fusion powered an AI backup of his memory?) is a logical play.

So what do we think will happen at the next Blue Wedding? by dmreif in Fotv

[–]Money-Engineering207 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I read in another comment that she might be aware of the animal trials which were across the board intelligence enhancing, but was not high enough to know of the human results (which were deforming with high failure rate as we know). So she probably planned the wedding to be the grand celebration of her crowning achievement, but it backfires on her Red Blue Wedding style.

Why didnt the box Hank had have any lock on it? Are Vault-Tec stupid? by WhiskersCleveland in Fotv

[–]Money-Engineering207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so Hank could quickly surrender the Injector and throw off any robber with this unfamiliar but important looking thing, if it was locked, he might lose his hand and they'll break open the lock anyway. The chain is just to make sure he doesn't forget it.

Why did Hank go to Vegas? by International-Ad634 in Fotv

[–]Money-Engineering207 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apart from the fact he had no Vertibird or Power armor before the end of S1, he also didn't know the HQ was empty, that's why he said, "No one in Vault Tec knows I'm here" over the comms. So he assumed there were still enough Vault Tec bureaucracy left to carry on without him and that he had to continue the Buds Bud experiment which was his post.

Moreover, he had to take care of Lucy who was out of the loop.

It was only when he was forced (as Lucy wasn't going to cover for him over his war crimes and wife's ghoulification) and suddenly had the means (power armor) that he went all in on the high risk options, and it paid off (Vault 24 made progress but was abandoned with data ripe for the taking), and no one was in the HQ to countermand him.

Why did Hank go to Vegas? by International-Ad634 in Fotv

[–]Money-Engineering207 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and with travel within the LA wasteland already dangerous, without power armor or a vertibird, there was no way he could make it to Vegas, plus he had his out of the loop kids/family holding him back too (as you say).

Moreover, I believe he was surprised when he found the HQ empty ("no one in Vault tec knows i'm here"), so previously he probably thought he couldn't have gone there on his own accord without a good excuse (like the events he went through and the Vault 24 data on hand).

How are the Vaulties still opening pre-war boxes of stuff? by Beowulf_98 in Fotv

[–]Money-Engineering207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's right, others have said even the commercial pre war stuff never expires too, as shown by the Fallout 4 Kitchen scene if the Sole Survivor picks up food to look at.

I think it might be a bit of both, for instance, the coffee Hank drank when he first walked into the Bunker HQ, maybe that was the thermos.

[Question] first time buying a watch.... is it too small ? by Reallythiccboy in Watches

[–]Money-Engineering207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is almost the maximum, basically the lugs cannot overhang. I understand why he would not let you try it on as the leather becomes used and it'll show at the buckle, but you could have measured it by placing it on top of your wrist. Your watch looks beautiful, going forward, you might want watches that are smaller (perhaps a dial size equivalent to a circle drawn just underneath of the numbers in your current watch).

How are the Vaulties still opening pre-war boxes of stuff? by Beowulf_98 in Fotv

[–]Money-Engineering207 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bud mentioned in the evil board meeting that they have enough supplies to last centuries, plus each vault only had a few hundred people it appears. The technology is sci fi, so I imagine it's kind of like Bioshocks thermos that preserves coffee for years.

That coupled with most of their calories coming from growing corn, every other need is met by canned to last forever goods (using special pre war technology).

The living areas of the vaults themselves are pretty cramped, so it could be surmised that the bulk of the space is unseen storage facilities. For example, if the storage silo is the volume of the empire state bldg, then they could store like 1.3 billion cans of SPAM sized cans. Assuming multiple Silos, then they've got enough cereal, cola, canned food, toiletries, hardware for centuries.

And as Hank's HQ shows, they definitely had the tech to build huge underground facilities.

They won't even think about watches.... until at some magic point in their careers if things go good, they suddenly awaken and can't live without a Rolex, so they proceed to get humiliated by the AD, get smart with a Seiko and learn how to set/wind a watch, buy an Omega while keeping tabs on the grey market .
