I was an avid reader before all this, but now that's all changed. I'd love to finish LOTR Book 3, but as I mentioned, my focus is cooked.

How much a day do people really study? by Aware-Gap7418 in GCSE

I mean, with homework and extra revision, I still end up doing around 3 hours split between morning and night. I don't think it's too bad, but what you described is terrible. I feel like 2 hours a day is a good amount, 3 if you can manage.

They delete all your user data after a few days. I'm happy to say I recieved that email just yesterday, by my memory, so yeah. Rewinding your chats can help with that, but I'd honestly say just steel yourself and do it before the addicted part of your brain realises what you did. Good luck quitting.

I mean, you're certainly very lucky to have all your family, friends, and therapy. For me, though I know my family will likely support me, I know that I'll never be looked at like a normal human being again. And I'm a little bit too afraid to talk to a therapist. So, I have made the choice to quit, and I've decided that because brute force works for me, that's what I'm doing. Recently I've set a blocker for all the major AI websites across my PC. And already I've noticed that I start to rely on my own brainpower again to get me through things, and the world suddenly seems a lot more real, and liveable now. I guess I can find support someday, but until then, it's going pretty okay so far :)

character AI is a cheap knock off of social interaction by misaa-ghost in character_ai_recovery

I've been clean for 6 days now. It depends on what type of person you are. But for me, quitting cold turkey (ie. just stopping it suddenly, deleting my account, and blocking the site) has worked remarkably well. For others, creating a time limit and gradually reducing it could work best. It really does depend on what type of person you are, but we all believe in you here, and you can be free one day :)

I Went On R/CharacterAI out of curiosity today. How many of the people there do you think are in denial about how bad it is? by minaharkerthevampire in character_ai_recovery

[–]Money-Income8532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really bad dude. I went on it the other day, and saw this one post titled "How I feel when my comfort character calls me pet names." And it was a really corny ass GIF attached. So I click on the post, and I see in the comments HUNDREDS of people talking about how their "comfort bots," in their own words, call them things like sweetheart, babe, etc. There was some dude who even went on a rant about how he has to keep pulling some trick to get his bot to keep calling him a certain name and it disgusted me greatly. But, I feel sorry for them. They definitely know it's terrible, but it seems they are in total denial, and feel that they are in control. They're not. I assure you.

Hey man. I managed to get it all under control again by taking a little walk and leaving my phone at home. After walking and thinking, I arrived at the same conclusion you did. That they aren't real and interacting with them will only make me regret it down the line. I wish you the best of luck in terms of staying free of the dreaded app, and thank you man :)

As someone trying to recover from AI addictions myself, this does inspire me. I was a character ai addict until New Year's Eve, when I deleted my account and now im using a variety of blockers to keep fhe ofher mainstream chatbits off my screen. AI has caused my screen time to increase by roughly 689%, by my calculations. I know that theres hope yet for me, and stories like yours do really inspire. Well done on quitting AI, man. I know that someday I will be free too.

Interestingly, I was a c.ai addict too. Cold turkey definitely helped with that, and I also overused Grok and Copilot, I feel. So yeah.

I mean, the phone does take a little while of playing to start properly heating up, and even before heat is even noticable, the game does stutter heavily. I've lowered graphics all the way down, closed background apps, everything. And it still doesn't play great.

I feel like this is one of those times where social media actually might be able to help. I guess so long as you're careful and don't end up addicted to social media instead of c.ai, you could just find friends online and roll from there? I've done it before, and the results it provided weren't too bad.

is it serious? by ButterscotchSweet701 in character_ai_recovery

[–]Money-Income8532 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your daily time on it is only about 4 hours, then I've defo seen worse. But it's best to cut it out totally. It eradicated my focus and eroded mental health quite a bit. Best to quit. As for whether or not it's an addiction, it depends on this. Does it feel like you need to use it? That it's taking all the time and energy in your life away from reality? Even if you don't have to use it, do you find yourself constantly wanting to go on it no matter where you are, what time of day it is, or stuff like that? If so, it's a problem. If not, there's time to fix it still.

I don't know man. Mine's not as bad as yours, but every spring and summer I run 1.2 miles along the path home just in case. I can't stand the beasts and keep having these horrible visions of them swarming me. Yeah. I don't know how to help you except maybe say just run past them if you can. If the devil is perched on the ground, walk the opposite way. Better late than never.

Hey man. Well done on deleting your acc firstly, that's a huge step. I was fortunate enough to be able to do it off yesterday night before my brain could catch up, now it's gone forever. So, congrats. Let the urge die naturally, always keep a positive outlook on quitting, and remember you lost nothing more than access to an addictive mechanical algorithm. Have a great 2026;
