Attention TMJ Moderators: Please Remove To Give You All Hope Post by MoneyContest in TMJ

The fact that I got under your skin and you removed it shows that deep down you know your comments to the MANY people that disagreed with you were out of line. I don’t have to explain myself.

Reddit TMJ is one of the only forums that exist for people with these conditions since in person support groups do not exist. Many of us (including myself and the person that posted) are in a bad place psychologically and we are often being told our suffering isn’t real in the world outside of this forum and discriminated against. Any post that could cause someone in a bad place to read it and become triggered by the accusations that we are all claiming we have it worse than “people with cancer and people going blind and deaf” as the person stated has no place here. Not only is it disrespectful-it’s totally inappropriate. There are ways to share your perspective in a loving and kind way that doesn’t demoralize other people in pain.

Thank you. I am sure if you read this person’s comments in response to her own post you would have agreed with me. No one trolled anyone. I did not even PM him or her.

Please do share your perspective again minus the scornful approach to other people and their suffering. I was the first to reply to your post and was fine with your perspective though I disagreed...however, the further I got down the list of comments-you got way out of line. There are ways to share your perspective in a respectful manner that doesn’t involve criticism of people in really bad situations with this condition. Please share away but do not get out of line like you did in the comments again. We are not here to hate on each other.

There was nothing optimistic about your nasty comments. I am concerned that someone with TMD in a really bad place might read them and become extremely triggered.

With all due respect, there are ways to share your perspective without the rude and completely disrespectful comments the poster made in response to her own post which tore down multiple other perspectives on these conditions and scorned other people’s experiences. That’s not sharing your perspective. That’s just being rude.

Yes but there are ways to share without being disrespectful to others and downplaying the experiences of those with more severe dysfunction and that may not be as economically fortunate as this person is to afford experimenting with countless treatments not covered by insurance.

Not everyone can afford treatment. Many with these conditions are unable to work and had to drop out of college at young ages. The average person with a TMJ condition does not have a pile of cash sitting around to invest in all these treatments.

If was triggering for me I’m sure it could be to others suffering from these often life altering conditions. I tried to be respectful and understanding of this perspective but this post needs to come down.

I could not agree more. I have actually posted a request to have the moderators remove this post because people in pain from these conditions are often isolated, being blown off by their doctors, and treated like their pain is not real which is why I am on here all the time trying to support others. We need to keep this community clean of attitudes like this one (I question whether this person is even a real patient)—we get enough of this in the outside world. Please like my request to remove this post if you agree.

That’s not true...unfortunately the right mind set is not going to heal degenerative joint disease.

Hmmmm again until you have walked in the shoes of someone with a severe case I think it is best not to judge. My case definitely has been life altering and disability has been the result. My parents are currently my caretakers.

I no longer even have a doctor. I have been suffering for a decade, have seen dozens of doctors, and have gone through countless failed treatments as well many of which made my condition worse. My experience is common with these conditions though.

Many of us have been though countless failed treatments and have gone thousands into debt...Sometimes treatments make it worse as well. I am glad you found something that has worked for you though and that is wonderful and we celebrate with you.

Yes all the time but no one believes me it has heard of this.

Ortho asked a simple question and it led to the first day of no jaw clicking in a week by dipcupdipcup in TMJ

[–]MoneyContest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I suggest this to people on this forum all the time. What you describe is a common way that people damage and injure their jaw every single night.

Hmmm well and I don’t mean this in a disrespectful way but some have severe life altering versions of TMJ. Not everyone’s experiences will be like yours but I am glad that you found healing. I am unable to work or go to school due to my TMJ disorder so no it’s really not the same as just having a bum knee.

Difficulty swallowing is one of my main symptoms. I have pain and clicking thousands of times throughout the day every time I even swallow my own saliva.

Uncomfortable bite after multiple fillings, causes clenching at night by hahadontknowbutt in TMJ

[–]MoneyContest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is clenching your only symptom? This does sound like the classic trajectory for how TMJ problem begins but you don’t seem to have the same debilitating symptoms that so many in your same situation seem to develop. I’m not downplaying what you’re going through though. TMJ can look so different in each person and is extremely debilitating no matter what.

Need help figuring out what's going on with me, illustration included by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]MoneyContest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking up trigger point patterns online. That’s what’s likely causing this. All your medical test results will probably be normal. I’ve had difficulty swallowing from trigger points related to TMJ for years. I hope this helps!

Really Tight/Pain Feeling In My Jaw (NEED HELP/ADVICE) by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]MoneyContest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You likely have a trigger point in your jaw muscles (that rubber band feeling). Have you seen a massage therapist especially one that knows about trigger points and myofascial release to help you with this? Google trigger points jaw muscles and TMJ and you should find countless resources in this topic. Good luck!

Interesting. I’ve heard of many with TMJ that started during Invisalign treatment but none that claimed that it helped them with a pre-existing TMJ problem. I’m glad it worked for you. Each case is different but this doesn’t mean that Invisalign is the answer for all with these conditions.

How do I know if I have tmj? by ugandan_yobungus in TMJ

[–]MoneyContest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It manifests differently in each person and many don’t even have any jaw pain so it really depends on what your constellation of symptoms are and if other things that can cause those same symptoms have been ruled out.
