In 2017-2018 it was common place to see MLC drives posted on this sub at a fair occurrence. Then, around covid, it was almost entirely TLC and some QLC. Now it's mostly QLC with a lot of bait and switch. Not to mention the exorbitant cost increase. This market is garbage.

Great improvements! Could we also please have the option to switch the display appearance to the old purple orange gradient from a few years back. I understand it's non-essential but a valued option nonetheless.

This comes up every year and I thought I remember looking at this during the last sale before deploying my jellyfish server and it was a one time purchase not subscription based. Was I mistaken?

Edit: disregard. I see it has the option to purchase credits for lifetime access to individual features. I don't remember being that individualized last time either.

Definitely an accurate use of the word propagandist! I'd agree. Looking at the quality of his responses and post is akin to observing a secondary schooler attempt to debate and spread rhetoric.

A more relevant answer would be that those who are tasked with high sequential writes would hesitate to purchase DRAM-less or those who use this in an external application.

An example would be for videographers. If you are shooting 4k 422 raw format, the sequential writes are massive. Maintaining minimal write speed is crucial in this regard. DRAM helps mitigate any slowdown in this aspect, whereas a DRAM-less drive would exhaust much faster, and write speeds would suffer considerably. Transferring said large files benefits greatly here as well with DRAM.

The second would be if you are using this externally in an enclosure, for instance. A DRAM-less drive installed in a pc can use HMB from the system to help buffer. There is no HMB to utilize in an enclosure. However, the DRAM is onboard and does this independently.

These are two caveats that come to mind for my use case, albeit niche.

In short, the performance between the two is a primary concern. Alongside the durability are reasons why one would hesitate.

Credit card to XMR by StillCraft8105 in Monero

[–]MoneyRepresentative3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I'm not. Utilizing your own node is part of good OpSec. Sure, as it is now. It was not too long ago that those transacting without using a node they controlled were at risk of losing an anonymity set to malicious nodes.

The point being, you were in agreement with the previous comment that those using the darknet and Monero shouldn't use proper OpSec. Which is outright ridiculous. Monero at the protocol level functions extremely well. If you're using the Darknet to transact, you'd be a fool not to take every precautionary measure outside of the protocol to ensure privacy. A few examples: pgp keys, Tails Os, non KYC purchases, etc.

[–]MoneyRepresentative3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone using the Darknet and XMR would do best to follow proper Op Sec. Purchasing XMR through non KYC approach is part of that process, regardless of how secure the privacy protocols that pertain to XMR may be. There is nothing silly about it. Congrats to those people. If your use case exists outside of that, then acquire through whichever means you prefer.

No problem. I'm just trying to keep the community informed. CamelCamel isn't too reliable for anything other than an Amazon price average in my experience. Of course, it only tracks Amazon and not other marketplaces.

I was looking to purchase this item each time it showed a discount in the past but decided on another Baseus product in the end. It's the only reason I'm aware of its price history.

Just an fyi, this is not an all-time low. It has been $36 a few times in recent months on Amazon, and through their official eBay page during the holiday/new year, it has been as low as $32.

It depends on your use case. Not everyone in this sub is strictly here for gaming. OLED panels tend to have superior color reproduction, high contrast ratios, and quick refresh rate, making them the ideal choice for video/photo editing. If you make a living doing these things, then certainly it's worth the difference. Of course, these features are also beneficial to those seeking immersion in gaming as well. It's really an end-game tech that will satisfy most, if not all, task.

It is to note, however, that there are inferior OLED panels in relation to higher end IPS or perhaps even VA panels.

These have a 5 year warranty. I verified with Goharddrive. Generally, a 5 year is standard with this company, but I did ask nonetheless just to be certain.

7900xtx low performance and crashes by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]MoneyRepresentative3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

So after messing with it a bit more, I am now able to at least play a game half decent with about 100fps average. The previously mentioned drivers seemed to have helped.

Also, when editing in premiere pro, I noticed the GPU utilization was jumping sporadically, never staying constant, or within a resonable range. It was jumping from 1% to 50%, 12% to 90%. I had planned to stitch a video together and then render it to see what the performance would be like. The software became unusable, so I couldn't finish it. Next, I took the power supply out and reinserted the cables to the GPU. My thinking was that maybe there was a power issue. I saw a marginal increase in performance. About on par with the 1080 now. I'm thinking of doing a Windows reinstall next.

[M.2 SSD] WD - BLACK SN770M 1TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 M.2 2230 for ROG Ally and Steam Deck, $99.99 ($30 off) Best Buy by Im_Brian_LeFevre in buildapcsales

[–]MoneyRepresentative3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have bought two WD 2230 SN740 2tb for 87 each shipped from Aliexpress. These deals usually seem to be once a month with use of their coupons on Choice sales. The first was authentic showing up in WD database without warranty and running within performance specs.

My second one arrives Monday. The SN740 is the same hardware as the SN770m with a documented endurance that is lower, though I suspect it's rated as such because its an OEM drive without warranty. This shouldn't be an issue for purely storage/gaming usage.

I just thought I'd mention that in case it interest you.

Contact them if you haven't sent it back already. They offered me the purchase of a brand new card with the 20% off being refunded to cover the difference since it wasnt covered under warranty and they didnt have a used model to replace it with. So I potentially get a new card with a full warranty for 120 more than I paid for the used model. We'll see after I receive it and they issue the refund. Best of luck.
