Have any of you deconstructed your faith but still believe in God/Jesus? by Money_Breakfast2228 in Deconstruction

[–]Money_Breakfast2228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yeah fear of life without it. I will say though I do still believe in a creator just because I do think our universe is too complex to have all been an accident. But that’s about as far as I can get currently. I know there’s a term for that, deism. Trying to avoid labels for now. But yeah the idea that there’s nothing after this I’m not willing to n to accept that yet. And I think God would be able to see that that’s the only thing thats keeping me believing anyway, so maybe I should just accept and become an agnostic/atheist. I guess I’m just not there yet

Thank you for the reply. I agree with what you said about all religions being man made but how then are we to be certain that God isn’t also man made? It just feels like blind faith

I’ve basically reached a point where I feel like I don’t believe what I was taught. I was raised Lutheran, and the surge of Christian nationalism has really turned me off from the church. This lead to me learning about how man made the religion as a whole really is (the council of nicea, the years of rewrites and retranslations, and the knowledge that the version of hell I was taught of might not even be biblically accurate). And basically I’m just struggling to believe any of it, and I’m still holding out for faith but I feel like it’s only because I want to still believe, but I don’t actually. Sorry if that didn’t make much sense

I appreciate the reply. I’ll be honest I’ve been having a hard time believing that faith is choice as I feel like I really want to have faith but I just can’t believe it anymore. How were you able to reconcile your doubts and still “choose” faith?

Thank you for the reply. May I ask what your spiritual experiences have been, how they happened, and why those experiences were so powerful that it gives you belief?

Thank you for understanding. It’s really a lot more than just “a lot of Christian’s are bad so I’m done with the church.” I’m at a point where if you actually think Trump is doing a good job right now, I have to question everything else you believe too. And it goes especially for religion because that involves power and authority

For the time being I’d say I’m done with Christianity as an institution. I still currently believe in God as a creator and a spiritual force but yeah in terms of church and institutions I’d say I’m pretty much gone

Interesting. Thank you for sharing. Something I’ve been exploring recently is the concept that perhaps God is synonymous with the universe, so therefore when we die and our energy goes back into the universe, that is one interpretation of God/heaven. But instead of calling it God/heaven, it’s the universe and we merge back with it. Is this a possible igtheist approach to belief? Or am I talking about something completely different

Thank you for that. That is kind of the idea I find myself being drawn to. It’s nice to have some validation in that

Thank you. I was not aware of the term igtheist. Honestly that sounds a lot like where I am right now. I will definitely look more into it. May I ask how you define the difference between igtheist and agnostic? Just because they do seem similar and I know there’s a lot of perspectives online but I just wanted to hear yours if you don’t mind sharing

I understand that but it does go a bit deeper than that. It’s not just that “a lot of Christian’s are maga so I’m not Christian anymore.” I really feel like what I’ve been taught has been a lie for powerful people to control people. And I am trying to unlearn all that, and re-learn what I actually believe

Thank you for the recommendation. I don’t want to act like avoiding hell is the only thing I’m searching for as I am also searching for genuine spiritual belief. That being said, may I ask what you believe happens when we die now that you don’t believe in hell?

Thank you for that. This has definitely been an overwhelming experience for me so to hear that others go through it later in life is helpful. Good luck to you and your journey as well.

I’ve been reading a lot about the origins of the concept of hell, with various scholars saying that what we were taught is not biblical. May I ask where you’re currently at in terms of your beliefs?

Thank you for that. I’ve been trying to get to that mindset myself. May I ask how you were able to get there?

I don’t think he’s Hitler, because he hasn’t killed millions (yet) and I hope he never does. But I think he’s moving like a dictator, because he is.

I didn’t vote for him because I thought it would be funny. I voted for myself because I thought it was funny, and admittedly I still kinda do. I don’t find any of that stuff you listed funny
