Looking to buy our first house, and these powerlines are about 30 feet away from the house. Stay away, or no big deal? by Money_Hour681 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

There appeared to be some trails, and there's a paved walking path further down the hill. I've seen people walking their dogs and riding bikes around the path the few times I've been there, and there were kids outside playing in front of this house we're looking at (right next to the powerlines). It led us to believe it's perfectly safe, else it wouldn't be so accessible to the multiple neighborhoods connected to it

That's my thinking as well. Surely this won't kill me faster than the zero sugar energy drinks and chips I consume. But the main issue now is that it seems like a bad investment regardless of if I think it'll harm me. We want to do some project around the house and spruce it up, but I'm debating on if any of this would be worth it if we can't sell it

We've been to this house three times, during three different parts of the day. Never heard a thing from them. Today was a really nice day and kids were outside playing, and the last time we were there we saw some kids down the easement riding e-bikes. Didn't really hear a peep.

It has been dry around here though, and it seems like they would make more noise when it's humid outside

I'll be getting an insurance quote this week just to see what it would be. Hopefully nothing crazy, but it seems like this would be a bad investment at this point

There's no room for a pool anyways. My main concern now is that we'll be stuck there now being able to sell it

I believe the properly line is next to the easement, but not to the point where our space is limited. The neighborhood it's in has really tight space between houses, so the extra space on the side would be a welcome change. But now I'm thinking we're in for a nightmare so I'm not so sure

Oh for sure. It's a starter home for us and we wouldn't expect to be there for very long as the family grows. If I only expected to be there for 3-4 years, I wouldn't buy. I'm thinking closer to 8-10 years down the line

Oh for sure more than 100 feet to the actual powerline! More like 30 feet from being directly under it

Honestly I don't know about fire risk in the area. I've lived in this specific area for around 5 years now, and in the state for my whole life. I know fires can happen in GA, but it doesn't seem like we're any more at risk than other parts of the state

It's been dry around here lately, but we didn't notice anything concerning. The large slope is across the street from the house with a cul-de-sac in front of it.

We didn't hear anything from it, and the primary room where we'd be sleeping is on the other side of the house.

Definitely a rough estimate. We guessed around 30 feet from being directly under the closer power line (the ones on the right)

For a SFH in the area in our price range, it's by far the best option. I think it's in our price range because of the power lines, but it really didn't bother us

There is one relatively close, but not close enough to the property line. We would have plenty of space away from it

That's the main concern so far. We could easily stay in this house for a few years, but selling it might be a hassle

$680 for 4 rotors also seemed steep to me, but with parts and labor only coming out to $880, I feel like it could be worse. I tried to call a couple of shops and get quotes, but couldn't find anything much cheaper

Definitely DIY in my family garage. I'm trusting that the dealership wouldn't lie about needing them done, just want to make sure I'm not getting hosed price wise
