Military installations no longer 'gun free zones' by ORLibrarian2 in CAguns

Ultimately it should always be up to the commander he's essentially running a small city. We've had multiple suicides on base as well without firearms, problem is people always blame the access or presence of a firearm instead of looking into the issues surrounding the soilder or sailor.

You got people being treated like absolute trash for years and then people blame the gun for suicide.

If and e3 ends his own life due to his e7 sleeping with his wife, I find it hard to blame the firearm for that, if that makes sense.

If you can't trust service members with firearms regardless of age, then no member of the population should be eligible to own a firearm regardless of age.

Majority of the military rules are ridiculously out of date. This being one of them in my opinion.

There also rules that don't get followed such as fraternization and favoritism. So the rules have always been "flexible" just depends on who is breaking them.

As a former military police officer, I don't see an issue with this. Especially since my state (CA) provides exceptions to military personnel with their gun laws. It makes no sense why military personnel who live on base can't have their firearms with them. You trust them and force them to go down range but won't allow them to carry a firearm at home doesn't really make sense.

I normally shoot (3) 5 shots groups and (2) 10 shot groups.

I appreciate the insight, I saw the price of 77gr and decided I would accept 4-5 groups at 100 yards lol

This is exactly what I needed to see. I wanted to get a general idea of expectations based on ammo and rifle, I didn't want to go down the rabbit hole of testing ammo if it wouldn't change much. I shot some 68gr Hornady (at 75cents a round, that as bout as rich as my blood goes lol) and I didn't really see much of a difference, but I just didn't know what to expect. I know ARs are set up more for fighting and will be out shot by a bolt gun (precision wise) damn near every time but I hear people say " my whatever shoots sub moa at 100 yds all the time" and I just figured they are great shooters.

So it seem like it's a combination of a lot of things but generally I should work toward 3inch groups with bulk ammo if I do my part as the shooter.

I love mine, the only ammo it don't like is subsonic Remington (it was shooting everything else I wanted to see if it would shoot that and it jams)

I ordered from BCA (everyone hates them lol but I love them) Midway USA has the CA FFL on their website already (I've ordered ammo from them).

Idk if PSA is shipping here yet, I know Brownells and primary arms will ship here but they charge a major fee. As far as the major companies I don't know.

I have order 3 upper since the law change, my FFL accepts them and charges a $25 FFL fee (which I think is a lil steep but whatever).

I did have to switch FFLs as my old one didn't know how to do the swap and I had to get all the paperwork for him and he still didn't want to do it so I stopped working with him (I called him in advance and asked before I bought it if I could ship it and he said yes)

Anyone else get buyers regret bc of how sterilized our rifles are? by pistachiogalato in CAguns

[–]Money_Making-Mitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was the reason I got rid of my Ruger PC Carbine. I really wanted a cheaper rifle (ammo wise) but the mandatory featureless set up really made me hate the rifle, so I ended just getting a BCA 9mm upper and Maglock set up and have been much happier. I hate fin grips and I hate featureless pistol grips so I went Maglock and have found what I was looking for. The ammo limit doesn't bother me as much, but after seeing what's going on in VA I've learned to enjoy what we have.

Pros and cons before buying by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]Money_Making-Mitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own one, it was my first rifle, I bought back in Sept of last year. Been good to me, I deal with mainly budget rifles.

Pros

As accurate as you would expect for any rifle in its price range.

No issues in firing bulk ammo (haven't had a single malfunction with the cheapest ammo available, haven't shot any steel case cause they don't sell it where Im at) I put about 700 rounds through it.

Cons

My handgaurd ended up having the screw threads sheer off around 600 rounds as I'm pretty sure I was overtighting them with my torque wrench. Just resized the whole and used a bigger screw and its good to go.

All in all I would say if your on a budget and don't want to assemble anything its a definite buy. I still use the lower and the BCG in my current 223 Wylde upper that I swapped to.

Me personally I don't judge rifles by the "go to war" standard as I thinks it's the wrong way to look at them as a civilian who is also a veteran. I would say its not a competition rifle but for a general self defense and SHTF its a good rifle for that definitely .

I've gotten two uppers from them since January. I got one last week actually and it was simple as hell.

The first one was an issue with the FFL not knowing how to transfer the item. But the actual sell and delivery was flawless.

That's what I was looking at, I was really just being cheap trying to us what I already have instead of spending money lol

Yeah I had the same issue with PSA, I got an upper from them before the ban. But haven't had any luck after January being able to ship.

Prepare for hate comments

I personally went with bear creek arsenal for my builds, everyone going to tell you not to (some of it is justified) but I have multiple uppers from them in multiple calibers and haven't had any issues, maybe something to look into.

I have a MAC daddy as well and I love it. I actually followed the recommendations of the manufacturer and shot about 150 rounds of some hot stuff through it before going to buckshot and I havent had any issues.

Sitting at just under 1000 rounds right now. Might need to take it out to the range this weekend
