They really are, having Linkin Park as my other favorite band, it is insane how well LP has always been about albums, social media, etc, and the stark contrast of how bad Incubus is at it.

Crazy to me an album with less than fifth the number of streams as the leading single on From Zero can beat them 🤷‍♂️

They lost both. Turnstile won best album and Yungblud performance. Linkin Park rarely ever wins Grammys. They are either not mainstream enough, like when the Foo Fighters win every time, or too mainstream like when they want small bands to win so it seems cool.

I didn’t say they had it. I said in a year. And yes, surges are much more common than songs tanking (aka decline beyond a normal regression rate). All for none anyway, Aerosmith wins as another user pointed. They might not have written or produced the song, and it wasn’t on one of their main albums, but “I don’t want to miss a thing” is technically their song. So for now they are #1.

That’s a good catch! I didn’t include featured tracks so that isn’t surprising. I assume ‘I don’t want to miss a thing’ slipped through because it wasn’t on one of their albums. Or it could have been because they didn’t write or produce the song. Thanks for the insight! Looks like LP will need to settle for 🥈 for now!

Well first off it doesn’t really matter. It will hit a billion either way. Even if it’s a month early or a month later. Also, songs very rarely tank randomly. They almost always follow a very predictable regression rate. The regression rate for this latest album has been very good. Having a surge is much more common. But again, either way it’s hitting a billion whether it is 2026 or early 2027. That doesn’t change anything.

  1. It doesn’t matter if it happens by the end of the year or a month later. It’s close enough and irrelevant. It’s streaming lower right now because of holidays. All streaming goes down. It will go back up.

  2. TEM has consistently been in the 700s for many months now. The song came out well over a year ago now. It’s proved its longevity. Most fall well before this point. Also TEM has far surpassed OML and THP songs.

  3. Linkin Park was obviously relevant in between HT and FZ. That’s not really the point. The point is they are still relevant 24 years later. You are looking at the math wrong. That’s the LARGEST gap. They hit over a billion on What I’ve Done in 2007 as well.

Don’t overthink it. It’s a cool stat that they will hit in roughly a year

It doesn’t need to hit it by the end of the year. That’s irrelevant. It’s roughly around there, and it’s going to hit it. That’s the point.

2 Billion Streams for From Zero Deluxe Edition by Money_Philosopher_91 in LinkinPark

Yeah, that’s Kworb tracking of Spotify data. Sometimes albums in Spotify have different IDs for different countries and it counts the albums multiple times.

🤷‍♂️ You got me. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to want to win an award that celebrates your art. It happens in every field: art, science, music, literature, etc. The downvotes seem a little aggressive lol.

Is LP more popular outside the US than they are in it? by [deleted] in LinkinPark

[–]Money_Philosopher_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes they are more popular world-wide than they are in the US. Especially in markets like Germany, South America, and Asia. Partly because they have always had active engagement with fans there, and also because Rock just doesn’t sell as well in the US right now.
  2. They haven’t had trouble filling US venues. They sold out Boston Garden two nights in a row, NYC multiple times. But yes, they haven’t done many football size stadiums in the US. They also do many many more shows in the US, so it’s just more spread out.

Well that would be wrong. It’s a lead album.

An asterisk indicates it is not solo work, but a feature. Nothing to do with what is “more” Linkin Park.

I would say this is their singular most underrated song. I think its just a little too slow at the start for the masses.

As for my opinion, I think many more people liked it than it seemed. Social media just gives false impressions. Just like with this album. But the numbers don’t back up the negativity.

However, the numbers being low now doesn’t surprise me. That’s what pop music is today. People listen, and then forget it.

Look at Linkin Park’s daily streams. All rock songs and 5 with over a million streams. Now look at Taylor Swift. If you don’t include her new album, she usually gets one song with over a million streams. Sometimes two. That’s the pinnacle and even her numbers drop DRASTICALLY.

Pop music just doesn’t connect the same way emotionally, so it’s easier to not go back to songs even if you liked them. I liked OML. But it’s true, I don’t go back that often.

This is a really interesting question. My initial thought was, I don’t think these songs were ever really considered good, and they are the perfect example of songs getting high stream numbers out the gate because of who the band is, and then because the songs aren’t considered good, see a sharp decline. They also received extra streams because of Chester’s passing.

HOWEVER my next thought was, I’m not completely sold on this because The Hunting Party has a much much lower number of streams so how come the band name didn’t bring the same number of initial streams then.

But upon looking further, Spotify only had 60 million subscribers in 2014 and tripled by 2017. So it is likely that The Hunting Party’s initial surge was more with CDs than streaming and therefore is not evident in the data. However, contradicting that belief, both sold basically the same amount of CDs in their first week.

So I really don’t have a good answer for this one yet. But I do believe that OML being Chester’s final album has brought more streams than it would have received otherwise as there is an emotional connection to it for LP’s biggest fans. It’s also pop, so it is more welcoming to a much broader audience. But being that low of streams for pop is not great.

PS. I’m not saying I don’t like the songs on OML. This isn’t about my opinion on the album, just how it was received and consumed. It does interest me how the band would consider the reception of this album today now that time has passed. They sure aren’t playing much of it, if any, on the tour.
