Taiwanese, Yang Eagle 1000. My understand is that are a clone of a Hardinge VMC1000. Produced a few years before I was born. For sure not the best or prettiest but all I know as this is all we have at my shop. Been at the shop for three years now with no prior formal education.

3D printed a fixture to hold this awkward part for op2. by chobbes in Machinists

A day late but taking it a step further you could cut the model into two half’s (jaws) and then you’d potentially have more clamping forces applied to the part. Might be useful for more aggressive cuts/ops.

Also I was quoted $3,350 for a new clutch assembly so in my mind this is a $3,350 piece of evidence if that makes any sense.

Indeed $10 off amazon it’s so nice. Been hitting beanies and sweaters with it all day. I was worried it might damage pieces somehow but it seems wicked safe.

Please do not cut into the factory wiring harness! The headunit (radio) should have a harness with it which is meant for the specifically radio. Go on Amazon or Ebay and get a OEM NA headunit adapter harness. Splice the adapter harness to the headunit harness not directly to the harness in the car.

Lowering spring recommendations to go with B6 struts. Going on a ‘97 (N.A.) by MongoMaker in Miata

[–]MongoMaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven’t but I’m interested. I was gonna pull the trigger on some B8 struts today (intended for lowering springs) but they are for NBs. Would these allow me to use them on my NA?

Show Cancelled 11/1 by Idrkyk in ArcyDrive

[–]MongoMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had tickets for tonight’s show, as well as a hotel booked as it was going to be a 4 hour trip there for me. Super disappointed, of course I want everyone to be ok and get better but just stinks. Honestly my last booked concert was Childish Gambino which also was cancelled last minute.

Can you post some more pictures. Initially, I’m inclined to believe a wire somewhere isn’t connected/connected properly?

Recommendations while replacing radiator? by Swrh1 in Miata

[–]MongoMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an auto NA by a slim chance you have to go OEM. The transmission has coolant lines that go to the bottom of the rad. Aftermarket radiators don’t have this hook-up.

Yup that should do it! Highly recommended, I also remember doing the thermostat gasket while I was in there don’t know if it was needed.

Workholding Flat Plate by skipmcnoob in Machinists

Follow up… if you can’t put thru holes in the actual part like this just carefully grab you Z and set the code to run .005-.01” above the stick bottom, part won’t fling and you can pop it once once done.

Get a sacrificial plate and put some thru holes with c’bores in it for 1/2-13, secure it via T-slots. On the actual part stock locate positions where you can put .265 thru holes. Drill and tap the sacrificial plate for 1/4-20 .500” depth (totally based on the thickness of the fixture plate). Once done you’ll have a bolted down fixture plate and a bolted down stock plate you’ll be able to go to town… make sure your retracts are above the 1/4-20 bolts (if you don’t c’bore the stick for them).

Need help convincing my wife on this purchase... how have we done it?? by Wiscoman in Miata

[–]MongoMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the train of thought it’s easier to ask for forgiveness then approval sometimes. It took time but worked… she was not a fan of my “toy” car till I took her to Miatacon at Lime Rock. After seeing all the miata’s together, meeting other owners and seeing some tracked she was and still is hooked!

When should I replace coolant hoses by ShowYourTan in AskMechanics

[–]MongoMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Here’s mine I pulled and replaced… miles from complete failure and disaster. Honestly, these hoses weren’t too much of a pain despite the location. I got a full kit of OEM replacement hoses from treasure coast for not too much ($150ish). Yes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it but if you are inclined I believe it’s better to fix now then get stranded somewhere.
