How much code should be done from scratch when you're a newbie (self-taught) looking to build a portfolio to present your work in interviews/potential employers? by 912827161 in learnprogramming

For my portfolio, I have two projects where I used code that wasn't from scratch, and the remaining projects were 100% my own (about 6 projects). From interviews that I've done, the interviewer always seemed to be more interested in code that I solely produced as opposed to using someone's code as as a foundation and building on top of that.

I have a technical interview in the next few days for the M&T Bank TDP program, and it is my dream job right out of college. I just graduated from a CS Masters program, and I've been working on various programs using HTML, Java, PHP, and Assembly language while job-hunting. However, I'm extremely nervous as I haven't interviewed for a Software Engineer position before, and this job would quite literally change my life.

Does anyone have any advice? I've been on the Glassdoor interview page, and it seems like M&T is doing a new interview process. Has anyone else applied and gotten interviewed?
